The Mission Committee would like to challenge us to sponsor a village through Village Hope Partnership. $3,000.00 is the amount needed to begin work in a new village with at least 70 villages in need. The Mission Committee has already

committed $1,000.00 toward a village sponsorship and some funds have been contributed by the congregation. Let us show the power of God’s love and support a village together! Please make contributions to First Presbyterian Church using the envelopes for Village Hope provided in the chapel and office or clearly marked “Village Hope” and drop in the offering plate, mail to the church or leave in the church office. Thank you for your support and caring for all God’s creation.

First Presbyterian Church

of Delhi, New York Church Life: August 19, 2018

“Great are the works of the LORD!” (Psalm 111:2): long summer days, meteor showers, lakes and forests, time for vacation and rest. Let us worship our generous God.

Despite all the despair and hurt in the world, with the psalmist I “put [my] hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and ... full redemption” (Psalm 130:7, NIV).

We invite everyone to take a moment before or after worship to sign the Church Attendance Register located outside the chapel door. A special welcome is extended to all who are visiting with us this morning. We hope that your worship experience will be meaningful and enjoyable. If you are interested in learning more about First Presbyterian Church or becoming a member of this congregation, please speak with Pastor Lisa Ruth, the Church Office or any Elder.

The TRUSTEES responsible for counting today are Sarah Philion and Art Maxwell. The Trustees responsible for counting on August 26 are Steve McKeegan and Brian Sprague.

SUMMER WORSHIP - We are enjoying Summer Hours at First Pres! Worship through September 2 will begin at 9:30. Worship during these summer months will take place in the Chapel but is subject to change if necessary. On September 9 we will return to our 10:30 worship time in the Sanctuary. The Summer Sermon Series on the “Hymns We Sing” continues! Please join us each week to learn more about the theology behind our favorite hymns and sing praises to the Lord our God!

This summer we will be sharing FELLOWSHIP AROUND THE CAMPFIRE. The next “fire of fellowship” will be held on August 22 at the home of Sarah, Tom & Miles Philion. Come around 7, have a S'more, share a story and gaze at the stars.

Our prayer focus for AUGUST: Elected officials who serve our village, town, county, and state

Newsletter articles are due in the office on Monday, August 27, 2018 in order to be placed in the September - October Courier. If you are able to submit items earlier, it is greatly appreciated.

Ladies Lunch at Crossroads is a time to relax and have a meal and enjoy conversation. There are no "lessons" involved; sharing around the table is just a pleasing thing to do. Buy Your Own lunch is the plan for 1:00 at Crossroads on the third Wednesday of each month. Please come enjoy Ladies Lunch whenever you can. Your friend in Christ, Pastor Lisa.

CHILDREN’S WORSHIP BAGS are available in the hospitality room on the shelves. Children are welcome to select a bag & items of their choosing to use during worship. CHILDREN’S BULLETINS are also available. The CHILD CARE ROOM is available to parents during worship.

Thoughts on Giving: “Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise…” EPHESIANS 5:15 A wise person recognizes that all we have and all we are comes from God. A wise person thanks God continually throughout the day for all His many blessings. A wise person realizes that God has blessed us for a reason and that He wants us to help Him build His kingdom of earth. Stewardship Prayer: That we make wise choices in how we live as God’s stewards and have the courage to turn away from foolish wants.
