By 2021,demand for flexible consumption of on-premises infrastructure and IaaS
offerings will drive 10% of the use of low-cost, commodity-basedofferings within datacenter infrastructure.
By 2021, open source CPUs will gain 5% market share in niche markets; over thenext five years, a viable open source contender — not including AI chips —will emerge in the datacenter.By 2022,
NVMe technologies — including NVMe-based all-flash arrays, NVMedevices, and NVMe over Fabrics host connections — will drive 60% of all
external primary storage spending.By 2022, every enterprise infrastructure platform will have hardware-assistedsecurity with capabilities such as silicon root of trust and hardware-basedencryption of data in use, at rest, and in flight.By 2023,
over half of all infrastructure spending by IT buyers will be on IaaS, with public cloud IaaS compute representing more than 25% of
the compute footprint at an average enterprise.By 2023,25% of the Fortune Global 500 will gain competitive advantage from
quantum computing.
By 2024, AI will be a core component of enterprise workloads; for 75% of
enterprises, 20% of their workloads will be AI-based or AI-enabled and15% of the IT infrastructure will be accelerated for AI. By 2024,
software-defined infrastructure solutions will account for 30% of storagesolutions, combining the benefits of NVMe-oF, hyperconvergedinfrastructure, and composable/disaggregated systems.
By 2025,the top 8 infrastructure hardware buyers (Google, Amazon, Apple,
Microsoft, Facebook, Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent) will consume 50%+ ofall of server and storage infrastructure deployed. By 2025,
the top hyperscalers' environment will be the source of 95% of newdatacenter infrastructure technologies, which will be developed by eitherthe hyperscalers or their customers.

• IT Impact• On-premises solutions that reproduce their in-house use of commodity servers
and software-defined infrastructure (SDI)
•Guidance• After decades of RAS-designed servers and storage systems, what starts out as
flexible consumption will fundamentally alter how infrastructure is designed for datacenters around the world.

• IT Impact• Although NVMe devices still carry somewhat of a price premium relative to SCSI
devices, that gap is narrowing. Many established systems vendors (already offerNVMe technology in their flagship arrays, and a smaller but growing set ofvendors offers NVMe-oF host connections.
•Guidance✓Deploy NVMe selectively on technology refresh and as new workloads that
require it are introduced over the next two to three years.
✓Use workload requirements to justify NVMe technology deployments, withimproved performance and increased infrastructure efficiencies as key drivers.

• IT Impact✓ IT hás no option but to treat infrastructure hardware platform security with the
same importance it would treat other operational service-level objectives suchas reliability, availability, and serviceability.
✓Advanced security features embedded deep into the silicon will make nearlyimpossible for any part of the system or platform to be tampered with at thehardware or software level.
•Guidance• Adopt a "fit for choice" or "right fit" IT infrastructure approach when investing in
the next wave of IT infrastructure. Further, the focus on this investment must beon a workload-optimized, innovation-focused infrastructure platform or servicefrom a trusted vendor.

• IT Impact• IT staff will explore various products and services that will accelerate the
implementation of hybrid cloud architecture.
•Guidance• Tailor your processes and skill sets to operate effectively in a public cloud IaaS-
centric environment, while keeping in mind that skill set availability continues to be one of the top challenges that enterprises face today regarding their publiccloud adoption.
IaaS Growth
By 2024, software-defined infrastructure solutions will account
for 30% of storage solutions, combining the benefits of NVMe-oF,
hyperconverged infrastructure and composable/disaggregated systems

• IT Impact✓Various workloads that are running in silos will be migrated to HCI and
disaggregated/composable systems. Private cloud deployments will alsoincreasingly leverage HCI and composable systems.
✓Next-generation HCI systems with all-flash storage, NVMe, cloud-nativeframeworks, AI-driven predictive analytic tools, and so forth will be in highdemand.
•Guidance✓ Identify the workloads in your IT that would be a good fit for HCI and
composable/disaggregated systems.✓ Invest in next-generation features such as NVMe, QoS, and cloud-native
architecture.
SDI / HCI
✓ Explore and evaluate emerging technologies, platforms, and ecosystems offered byvarious public cloud providers. Use these offerings to create pilot projects and continuallytest the viability of new products and business models.
✓ Migrate workloads to public clouds when feasible, and invest in hybrid cloud solutions. Create long-term, holistic strategies to implement could-native architecture.
✓ Use flexible consumption models to implement private clouds, consolidate yourdatacenter, and reduce capex and opex.
✓ Embrace software-defined infrastructure when it satisfies the SLA requirements. Virtual machines, containers, and hyperconverged infrastructure must all be part of yourarchitecture.
✓ Treat infrastructure platform security with the same priority as the security of software and data management stacks.
✓ Train/rehire IT employees in programming, DevOps, containers, and cloud architectureskills.
✓ Invest in data-centric innovation teams with staffing spanning analytics, data stewards, lines of business, application owners, and digital/innovation executives.
