Ev’ryone needs compassion, love that’s never failing. Let mercy fall on me. Ev’ryone needs forgiveness, the kindness of a Savior, the hope of na ons.

Savior: he can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save; he is mighty to save! Forever, author of salva on: he rose and conquered the grave; Jesus conquered the grave!

So take me as you find me, all my fears and failures. Fill my life again.

I give my life to follow ev’rything I believe in. Now I surrender. (Bridge)

Shine your light, and let the whole world see. We’re singing for the glory of the risen King. Jesus! © 2006, Reuben Morgan and Ben Fielding/Hillsong Publishing. Integrity Hosanna. CCLI #1595099

Our Father, Maker of the heavens and the earth, Author of the universe who imagined us, God All-Seeing: into our humanity come; let your kingdom be with us, oh, let your will be done.

Lord Jesus, Son of God who sits at his right hand, Perfect Love that became man sacrificed for us, Pure Redeemer: into our iniquity come; let forgiveness sweetly fall, have mercy on us all.

Renew your people, renew your promise, renew our hearts for you.

Consuming Fire, fan into flame a passion for Your name. Spirit of God, fall in this place. Lord have Your way. Lord have Your way with us.

Come like a rushing wind. Clothe us with power from on high. Now set the cap ves free. Leave us aban-

Dear Jesus, help me to spread your fragrance ev’ry where that I go. Dear Jesus, flood my soul with your spirit and your love.

Penetrate and possess my being so u erly that all my life may only be a radiance of you.

    5. Miracle of Grace 358 MI

Miracle of grace, mystery of faith, calling us to venture to the deep. Though our senses fail, your graces s ll prevail, and we become the love that we receive.

Bread of life, bread of life. Those who eat this bread shall live and never die. Bread of life, bread of life. Your true presence in this holy sacrifice. Bread of life.

Unworthy though we are, you feed the hungry heart with bread come down from heaven above. And like a grain of wheat, we fall down at your feet, dying here with you. Oh, let us rise!

Your faithfulness revealed in this covenant you’ve sealed with your very body and your blood. Come, claim your bride again with love that cannot end, for what God joins no one can divide.

    6. We Will Serve The Lord

Wealth can be an idol, built of gleaming gold, bringing dreams of paradise, futures bought and sold. Some will choose to gather it, all that they can hoard, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

Pleasure is a siren, promising the flesh, brief relief from emp ness, a hiding place from death. Some will choose to chase it un l it leaves them bored, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, we will serve the Lord, we will serve the Lord! As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, we will serve the Lord, we will serve the Lord!

    7. Your Love Awakens Me

There were walls between us. By the cross You came and broke them down, You broke them down. And there were chains around us. By Your grace we are no longer bound, no longer bound.

You called me out of the grave. You called me into the light. You called my name and then, my heart came alive.

Your love is greater. Your love is stronger. Your love awakens, awakens, awakens me. (Repeat)

Feel the darkness shaking. All the dead are coming back to life. I’m back to life. Heart the song awaken all crea on singing, “We’re alive ‘cause You’re alive!”

And what a love we’ve found. Death can’t hold us down. We shout it out: We’re alive ‘cause You’re a live! CCLI Song # 7054720 © Capitol CMG Genesis Jesus Culture Music Phil Wickham Music Seems Like Music Sing My Songs For use solely with the SongSelect.

    Pastoral Let ter

The first weekend of October every year is designated as Respect Life Weekend in our Church. On these days we are called as Catholics to reflect on our church teachings about the dignity of human life at every stage. These teachings are often summarized as a “consistent ethic of life.” What are some of the issues involved? Fundamentally the Catholic ethic is a response to our secular culture in America and around the world. It is about finding a better way to deal with social problems than by killing people: the unborn (abortion), the elderly (euthanasia), the infirm (mercy killing), and criminals (capital punishment). In reviewing this consistent ethic, we are being asked where we stand in all of this. Am I outspoken in support of life? Casting my vote in support of life? Charitable toward a mother who has been pressured into aborting her child? Patient with the weak and handicapped as they deal with their limitations? Steadfast in opposing the death penalty for criminals? In a word, am I consciously and actively pro-life in my words and actions? If not, why not? These teachings flow, of course, from the fifth commandment that God gave to Moses—“Thou shalt not kill.” And it is important to note that this commandment, as well as the other nine, were given not simply to the Jewish people, not simply to Christian people, but to ALL people. This prohibition applies to everyone as a basic building block for a civil society. This is why it is such a challenge for us today.

Probably the first challenge for us is to do our best to help shape a consensus within the Catholic community. We can hardly talk to our secular brothers and sisters if we are divided about our own beliefs. There are many resources we can find to learn more about the issues—the Catholic website FORMED is a good place to start. The second major challenge is to share our Catholic vision with the wider society. We can state our case in non-religious language, being vigorous but civil. This is not easy, but it is essential. We can’t do everything, but we can do something—and Respect Life Weekend is a good reminder. Sincerely, Father Don Romito

    KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

A SURE PATH FOR RENEWAL by Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson

THE CHALLENGE OF REFORM AND PRESERVING UNITY WITHIN THE CHURCH CALLS FOR NATURAL AND SUPERNATURAL VIRTUE

EARLIER THIS YEAR, I attended the consecration of a beautifully restored church. As the Blessed Sacrament was placed in the new tabernacle, I thought of the Ark of the Covenant, which was the place of God’s presence among his people, beginning in the time of Moses. Now, in the New Covenant, the Lord’s true presence is a reality wherever Mass is celebrated and wherever the Eucharist is reserved. As Catholics, we may take this reality for granted today, but the initial reaction to Jesus’ discourse on the bread of life was one of disbelief — the Jews saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” and His disciples saying, “This is a hard saying, who can listen to it?” Most of His disciples actually left, and Jesus then turned to the Apostles: “Will you also go away?” As we know, Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life”. Jesus’ question remains painfully real in light of the devastating scandals that have recently rocked the Church and the declining church attendance among Catholics. And if Jesus’ question has new relevance, so does Peter’s answer. If we were to turn away from the presence of the Lord, where would we go? There is a growing trend, especially among young people, to say that we can be “spiritual” while also rejecting organized religion. Pope Benedict XVI addressed this issue in his encyclical Spe Salvi (Saved in Hope) when he asked, “Is Christian hope individualistic?” He answered that “salvation has always been considered a ‘social’ reality,” adding that we are called “to a lived union with a ‘people,’ and for each individual it can only be attained with this ‘we’”. We see this social reality, this unity within the Church, most beautifully in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the hundreds of thousands of tabernacles throughout the world. And this call to communion is especially important for us as Knights of Columbus, committed this year in a special way to the principle of unity. In Spe Salvi, Pope Benedict further reminded us: “God is the foundation of hope. … His love alone gives us the possibility of soberly persevering day by day, without ceasing to be spurred on by hope”. In the days ahead, therefore, let us rededicate ourselves to the practice of the moral virtues and pray for an increase in faith, hope and charity. In this way, we will continue to move forward, meeting whatever challenges may arise. The Lord remains in the midst of His people, and He will never abandon us. He calls us to unity. He calls us to virtue. And in Him, we will find a sure path for renewal. Vivat Jesus!

Father Miguel Hernandez
