3-FASTING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN the fast is an act of deep personal worship in
which Muslims seek a richer perception of God
Fasting is also an exercise in self-control whereby one's sensitivity is heightened to the sufferings of the poor.
3-FASTING IN THE QURAN O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it
was prescribed for those before you, that you may acquire piety (Taqwa). (2:183)
Fast for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g., an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast is better for you if only you know. (2:184)
RAMADAN Begins with sighting of the new moon Abstention from eating, drinking and other
sensual pleasures is obligatory from dawn to sunset
Muslims start their fast at dawn with a breakfast, sahur break their fast at sunset with a special meal, iftar
