Welcome

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God.

The King’s Brass Tim Zimmerman, director

To Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on ourwebsite at firstpresaugusta.org. You can also visit our welcome desk in the Welcome Center, located directly behind the sanctuary

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An Elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in ourcare on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newbornsthrough fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, SundaySchool, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Kiosks are available inthe Narthex and in the Children’s Lobby. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers areavailable to assist you.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-K through fourth grade during themorning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms duringthe hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pickthem up after the service. Children in pre-K through second grade remain in their classroomsuntil they are picked up by a parent.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and SundaySchool. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (room 160) located in the Ebenezer Buildingbehind the sanctuary, and the Geneva Room is designated as a cry room for parents withfussy children. Both rooms are equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushersare available to direct you.

Additional Seating Please see Ushers for additional overflow seating

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

The Meditation—Be Thou My Vision ........................................... arr. Philip Stopford

Theme: Not For Ourselves—Worship

The Prelude—Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing .................................. Diane Bish

†The Call to Worship ....................................................... from Hebrews 12:1-2; 28-29Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,

Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin that clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race set before us,

Looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, Let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;Naught be all else to me, save that thou art:Thou my best thought in the day and the night,Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word;I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord:Thou my great Father, and I thy true son,Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

High King of Heaven, when the battle is done,Grant heaven’s joy to me, O bright heaven’s Sun!Christ of my own heart, whatever be fall,Still be my vision, O Ruler of all!

Jeremy Wells, soloDavid Haburchak, flute

The ResponseThe grass withers and the flowers fall,But the Word of our God stands forever.

The Psalter Lesson ...................................................................................................Psalm 84page 922 in the pew Bible

Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

†The Confession of Faith ................................................................ Colossians 1:15-20

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace .................................................. Romans 8:31-34What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Heavenly Father, we humbly confess that we are an anxious, fearful people. We do not trust you as we should and often try to control our circumstances to prevent hardship and pain. We are slow to seek you in prayer, weak in perseverance, and quick to forget the faithfulness of your power and providence. We try to manipulate and scheme instead of resting in your promises and remembering your love. Forgive us for the folly of self-preservation and self-trust. Forgive us for doubting your goodness. Forgive us for being conformed to this world and for placing our trust in possessions, power, and the wisdom of man. Renew our minds and hearts that we might walk by faith and not by sight. By your mercy, keep us steadfastly devoted to Christ and cause us to endure to the end, that we might receive your great salvation. Through Christ Jesus we pray, Amen.

*‡The PeaceThe peace of the Lord be with you always.

And also with you.

Jeremy Wells, solo

The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell,It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell; The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave his Son to win:His erring child, he reconciled, and pardoned from his sin.

When years of time shall pass away, and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,When men, who here refuse to pray, on rocks and hills and mountains call,God’s love so sure shall still endure, all measureless and strong:Redeeming grace to Adam’s race, the saints’ and angels’ song.

O Love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure, the saints’ and angels’ song! The love of God!
