HYMN OF PRAISE “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”......................................Number 174

Hosanna, loud hosanna The little children sang; Through pillared court and temple The lovely anthem rang; To Jesus who had blessed them Close folded to His breast, The children sang their praises, The simplest and the best. From Olivet they followed ‘Mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving, And chanting clear and loud; The Lord of men and angels Rode on in lowly state, Nor scorned that little children Should on His bidding wait. “Hosanna in the highest!” That ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, The Lord of heaven our King; O may we ever praise Him With heart and life and voice And in His holy presenceEternally rejoice! Hosanna to the Son of David!_________________________________________________________________________________

Palm Sunday is the last Sunday in Lent and the first day in Holy Week, which immediately precedes Easter. As a Christian observance it dates back to about the tenth century.

It commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem when the common people welcomed him by holding aloft branches of the palm tree. “Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road” (Matthew 21:8). “So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying, ‘Hosanna! Blessed be he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!’” (John 12:13). The use of palm leaves on the anniversary dates back to an early period in the history of the Jerusalem church. It continues to be an appropriate symbol of peace._________________________________________________________________________________
