WORSHIP!
We are fast approaching the time when we
will be able to join together to worship! HOW-
EVER, there are things we all need to be aware
of in order for worship to resume successfully.
There will be rules that we will need to follow.
And those rules may change as we go along. It
will be for the good of our worship community
if we can have patience and take care. Let our
worship be an act of love for each other.
Every parish is being asked by the Diocese to
submit a plan for reopening. That plan must be
approved by the Diocese in order for us to reo-
pen. We are now developing our plan. The plan
will be specific.
There are a few things we know for sure. Sun-
day School will not start up right away, at least
it will not be Sunday School as we have known
it. We will be observing social distancing in the
Church, spreading ourselves out around the
Church auditorium. We will be partaking of the
Eucharist in one kind only - the bread. Both
bread and a small representative amount of
wine will be blessed.
Sorry - Coffee Hour can’t start up again yet!
All other meetings are to remain online via
Zoom.
Please consider this document “fluid.” Things
are going to change. We may be required to re-
turn to “Shut Down” mode OR hopefully to en-
joy fewer and fewer restrictions!
May God bless us as we venture forth into this
great unknown!
Mother Susan+
Worshipping With Us
Welcome! Episcopal worship is participatory.
We stand, we kneel, we speak, sometimes we
sing! Please join in at your level of comfort. If
you’d like to learn more about what we as
Episcopalians believe or if you have any ques-
tions, please fill out one of the yellow cards in
the pew and give it to Mother Susan or one of
our ushers. We hope you feel welcome here
and that you will come back often to feed your
faith.
A Word About Receiving
Communion in the Episcopal Church
All are invited to the Altar to receive. If
you would like a blessing, just cross your
arms over your chest. If you decide to receive
only the bread, extend your hand for the wafer
and cross your arms over your chest to decline
the wine.
For the wine or grape juice you may guide
the chalice to your lips by placing your hand
gently on the chalice’s base and guiding it. Or
you can dip your host (wafer) into the wine.
Or you can give the host to the Lay Eucharis-
tic Minister, who will dip the host into
the wine and place it in your mouth.
Do you need help?
Cindy Taglienti is coordinating an effort for
anyone who needs groceries, medicine or even
food for pets. You can write on her Facebook
post on the Church's Facebook page or call
Beth Portocalis at 856-357-3938.
During this time of uncertainty, please know
that Church of the Good Shepherd will al-
ways be here for you. Please email us or
phone in your prayers so Mother Susan and
Deacon Carl can pray for you specifically if
you desire. Both of them are calling parish-
ioners to check up on you and see how you
are doing. We want to thank you all for con-
tinuing to support Good Shepherd by mailing
in your pledges.
Blessings,
Mother Susan and Deacon Carl
Pitman Food Pantry
In the midst of this Coronavirus crisis,
the Pitman Food Pantry is in critical need
of food donations. With so many church-
es closed, the usual supply path of dona-
tions is drying up while the demand is in-
creasing. If you can donate, please bring
any items to the pantry during normal
opening hour, which are Tuesdays
from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, Wednesdays from
3:30 – 5:00 PM, and Thursdays
from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. The Pantry is
located at the First Baptist Church, locat-
ed at 30 North Broadway in Pitman. Bags
may be left outside the door, just knock
so the volunteers inside are aware that
donations have been left. Jenn Harring-
ton also offered to deliver to the pantry,
so you can drop off at her house in
Washington Township. Her address is in
the directory but if you need it or direc-
tions, you may call her at 856-383-0823.
