I’ve been working on this pillow design for the past few weeks, and I’m excited to share it with you all today! This
Woven Tassel Pillow uses woven crochet, which is a new to me technique that is super easy and has loads of
potential for fun designs. I’m guessing you will see more woven crochet posts around here in the future.
For today’s pattern, I’ve teamed up with Simplicity and Boye Yarn Crafts and some of my favorite
crochet bloggers. We will each be sharing a free pillow pattern every day this week. PLUS there is a great
giveaway at the end of this post! Score! Keep on scrolling to see the other pillow patterns and to enter the
awesome giveaway. You aren’t going to want to miss it!
But first, let’s talk about my new pillows.

I love the look of woven fabric, and this pillow recreates that look using crochet – no loom required! The basic
process for making this pillow is to first crochet a large mesh square, weave double strands of yarn through the
mesh, and then add on some tassels – that’s it!
Materials:
Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Red Heart Soft Yarn in Charcoal, Light Gray Heather, Deep Sea, and Seafoam)
Size I (6.00mm) Crochet Hook
Plastic Yarn Needle
18″ Pillow Form
1/4 Yard Coordinating Fabric for Pillow Back
Sewing Machine
Row 1: Ch 74, dc in fifth ch from hook, * ch 1, skip one ch, dc in next ch, repeat from * to end of row (36 dcs, 35 ch
1 spaces).

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), dc in next dc, *ch 1, dc in next dc, repeat from * to end of row (36 dcs, 35 ch 1
spaces).
Rows 3-35: Repeat Row 2.
You should end up with a square-ish piece of mesh crochet cloth. The square will shrink a bit vertically as you
weave, so don’t worry if it is a bit taller than it is wide at this point.
To weave, take a long piece of yarn, fold it in half and thread the open end of the yarn onto the yarn needle. You
want the loop to be on the opposite side of the double strand from the needle. This will help you to join the yarn
to the mesh.

Weave the needle up and down through the mesh fabric. When you reach the other end of the fabric, come back
down the direction you came. Make sure to go under the fabric where you went over in the previous column.

Make each column one space shorter than the previous space until you get to the center column, and then go
back up to the other side. This creates the triangle design.

Next, join a contrasting color and weave in the empty spaces in the same manner. I over lapped the colors by
one mesh space to make sure I didn’t have any large holes.

If desired, you can repeat the process with another color, as I did with the charcoal color on the teal pillow.

Finally, add tassels to the pillow by looping three 10″ strands of yarn around a horizontal bar at the base of one
of the mush spaces.

Now it is time to trim up each tassel so they are all the same length. I trimmed all my tassels to 4 inches.

When the tassels are all trimmed, you are ready to put together your pillow! Yay! I decided to sew a fabric
envelope back onto my pillow because they are so easy to make and also make it easy to take the pillow cover
off and on. You could also crochet a pillow back if you like.
