SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007
WP4 Activities
A4.1 - Study and propose multi-disciplinary Grid applications carry out survey and study of potential Grid applications in the
region, and help identify the target applications for adaptation and deployment
A4.2 - Adapt regional applications of interest support for initial application gridification and deployment
A4.3 - Support the deployed applications operational and user support of the deployed applications
A4.4 - Asses applications Grid usage and take-up assess and quantify the applications usage of the
infrastructure, and application take-up in the community.
SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007
A4.1 Overview
Study and propose multi-disciplinary Grid applications
Currently there are 23 SEE-GRID-2 applications: 17 old (from the beginning of project) 6 new applications (recently filled in simplified questionnaire)
No more new applications will be accepted (project time left is limited) EXCEPT
from Albania from Bosnia and Herzegovina
SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007
Critical Points for Countries
Moldova - PRNNS Still in one cluster mode. Gridification steps identified:
A single grid job to submit tasks manually, also making use of data management for input/output files
Organize workflows parallelize the neural network training process for running on
several CEs
What about ASG support? (Ivica Dimitrovski, Cevat Şener, Miklos Kozlovszky)
SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007
Critical Points for Countries
Albania – New Application(s) More concrete information needed! “At FIE researchers are trying to invent something in collaboration with Antun.”
What is this? More details? Use of optimization software (SimAnnTSP) developed at INIMA.
Any application identified?
Bosnia and Herzegovina – New Applications Fill in the questionnaire until November 23, Friday, ARC to assess
until December 10. PARSIMLOC (done on own funds, completed)
Is it deployed in grid? PMFSA (pension funds)
progressing nicely, Haris has found people for it. PFE for CBIR (already reviewed at the beginning of the project, being developed)
UoBL started gridification Application will be deployed before the end of the project (This is a stable running
application that has just to be ported to grid. ETFIS (magnetic fields simulations - currently running, written in fortran)
They started to port their existing application to grid
SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007
A4.2 Overview
Adapt regional applications of interest - Support the deployed applications
Application lifecycle defined in “Gridification Guidelines” document.
SG Gridification Guide (wiki pages) structured and still contributed by developers.
Policy: Applications initially supported at the country level. Application Support Group (ASG) created for gridification
support. Application Review Committee (ARC) created to assess existing
and new candidate applications. Application selection criteria defined by ARC. MoU Between Applications and SEEGRID-2

Gridification Guide Recommendations
If you contribute after December 1st, you may miss the D4.3 trainKeep sync with others, particularly with the topic leaderTry to avoid overlapping Review and improve others’ contributionsProvide original contributions outside of gLite User GuideRBI has already prepared an early D4.3 draft; TOC is being finalised Update both Wiki and .doc, if there are no significant changes Otherwise paste from Wiki and apply formatting of existing .doc content
We are migrating Wiki -> .doc. Consolidate look and formatting of your contribution within .doc Make internal links within D4.3 using cross-references “Section x.y” Make external (Web) links printable: use references or insert URLs Consistent examples, figures, captions, title capitalisation etc.
Some contributions inform on contributing person/institution. Do it whenever appropriate, but not if you are just doing minor additions, corrections of giving informative overview without significant original contribution

SEE-GRID-2 Application Accounting Portal
https://gserv1.ipp.acad.bg:8443/Welcome/
Currently institute info is used to have an estimated accounting data per application. > Not reliable!More precise accounting will be enabled with the use of VOMS application groups.– But many App. Groups still
missing!!!Since start of project (for 10 already deployed and 9 testing grid-mode applications):– around 70K jobs– around 70K CPU hours
SEE-GRID-2 PSC06 Meeting, Sarajevo, November 22, 2007
A4.4 Action Points
All WP4 Country Representatives should make sure that voms app. groups are created, related developers are registered with these groups, Developers are using these groups.
How to manage voms app. group-based accounting in P-GRADE portal? Miklos? Cevat?Past accounting data will be corrected after all developers get registered with voms application groups: DN – voms group matching will be done. Publishing directly common names not preferred for privacy issues.
Deployed and presentable applications should have more accounting. If an application is in presentable mode, it should seriously work on user community enlargement possible collaborations with other projects/applications.
