Churches, Let Camp Allegheny Help You Connect with Local FamiliesCamp Allegheny's Camp On-the-Go program had an excellent first summer this past year. We had six different churches, primarily in the Johnstown area, partner with Camp Allegheny to reach the young families in their community.

Camp On-the-Go is our traveling Day Camp program and we are looking for partner churches for Summer 2019. Camp Allegheny provides resources for every step of the process, from registration forms to parent letter templates, while allowing communication to primarily go through the church. That means that, from the start, local churches are building a relationship that can last beyond the summer.

Camp Allegheny staff will run the program during your church's week of Day Camp while your volunteers spend time getting to know the kids better and becoming an important part of their lives! Activities are Camp Allegheny specialties, from camp crafts, Bible studies, and games, to a real Pony ride, hamster ball, knocker balls, and more!

John Zimmerman is a Conference Evangelist and Church Outreach Consultant with the United Methodist Conference of Western PA. He was consulting with one of our sites while we were there this past summer and this is what he had to say about the program: "I had the wonderful privilege of helping with Camp On-the-Go at Johnstown. [The staff] were amazing...as well as the whole program. We are very excited for what this concept can accomplish as it goes into the future."

John produced a video for us as well, and you can see that video here: https://vimeo.com/282594378

If you want to connect with young families in your area, now is the time to start planning for Summer 2019. We are looking for churches of any denomination within an hour's drive of our camp who want to partner with us in taking the Gospel to their community through quality programming and relationship building!

Email [email protected] and let him know you want to learn more!

CLEANING BUCKETS NEEDED!Cleaning buckets drop off location in Johnstown is Elton: Zion UMC. Please contact the church to make sure someone will be there to accept the buckets before dropping off. Church office phone number is (814) 266-1512.

Because of the widespread flooding that we are receiving throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, specifically around Pittsburgh suburbs, we have exhausted our cleaning buckets at the Eastbrook mission barn.

Page 4: wpa-email.brtapp.comwpa-email.brtapp.com/.../newweeklynewsletter050119.docx  · Web viewWould you please take a look at your congregation and see if you have anyone who may be able

On behalf of the disaster response ministries and the Eastbrook Mission Barn, I am issuing an urgent request for cleaning buckets and hygiene kits; with priority being placed on cleaning buckets.

If each district would be able to collect 100 cleaning buckets this would alleviate concerns about having enough supplies in this initial response.

Funds for cleaning buckets could also be forwarded to the Eastbrook Mission Barn. Funds for general disaster response should be forwarded to the conference treasure. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call 814-442-5899.

Thank you for everything you are doing and for all of your support, we continue to seek God’s will as we help those who have been affected by natural disaster.Peace and blessings, Calvin CookWPA Disaster Response Ministries

District Library

A grant has been submitted requesting assistance for the District Library. The goal is to develop 3 separate ministries: 1.) sharing resource materials among the District churches using an automated library system 2.) library services for the under-served residents of the Moxham community and 3.) library service for shut-ins.

Donation request: The library is accepting donations for children books from toddler to young adult. Copyright dates should be within the last 5-10 years, if possible. Many of the children books in the library are 50-60 years old. You may deliver the donations to Grove Avenue UMC, ship them to 501 Grove Avenue, Grove Avenue UMC, Johnstown, PA 15902, or request for me to pick them up. Contact information: [email protected] or 814-288-5204.

Volunteers Needed!

Current JUMP leaders are aging and dealing with health limitations. They will help with permits, design, materials transport, and paperwork.

Priority for jobs goes to handicap needs, followed by home repairs addressing safety issues. Teams are generally 3 to 5 people and most jobs are completed in 2 to 3 days. We need team leaders and team workers, hopefully with some fix-it experience, but we will train any interested individual. This is a part-time volunteer effort. JUMP has tools but bringing your own is encouraged. Access to a small truck or van is also helpful but not necessary. For more information, call Franklin Street UMC at 535-8288.

A message from Gary Hale…

Greetings friends and fellow pastors,

I am writing this to invite you to an event this July 20th at the Central Park in the heart of Johnstown.

Just a little background about what we have done in the city. Three times we did The Flood. It was a city wide block party. One time at People’s Natural Gas Park, 2 times at Sandyville. We did 2 week long tent revivals. One time at Bethany UMC and once at Moxham Lutheran. One time at Fountain of Life, we did a revival. Last September we did a 3 day crusade at Point Stadium. Then on Christmas Eve we had a service at the Holiday Inn Ball room with 14 different churches contributing money, participating people, and gifts of food and cloths. Each of these events had one purpose in mind, winning people to Jesus. Many people gave their hearts to Jesus and many more were prayed for. Outside the city, I have been to Haiti once and 12 times to 6 countries in Africa where I have seen thousands come to Jesus. This is just a little about the back ground of Gateway to Christ Ministries and those who are in it.

This July 20, Gateway to Christ Ministries is sponsoring a celebration of the churches in Johnstown. We want it to be a music festival and block party inviting the entire region to come together to enjoy a day of celebration and preaching of the Gospel of Jesus who has come to seek and save the lost. This is going to be a evangelistic outreach and follow up to disciple those who will give their lives to Jesus and to bring the back slider back into the church.

We are looking for churches to set up tables throughout the park, giving out free food, games, and inviting people who have no church affiliation to come and be a part of their church. We will be giving away food all day and every half hour giving out door prizes. At each entrance to the park we will be setting up tables to register people for the door prizes, so we will have a list of people to follow up with.

The event will start at 12 PM and end at 5 PM. We would then like to have a youth rally from 5 to 7 pm. All day long we are planning on having local Christian bands and musicians play. Between each set we are planning on having local ministers giving short evangelistic messages inviting people to come to the altar to receive Jesus or be prayed for.

This is just a short message to let you know what our basic plans are for this event. There is so much more! The Lord has shown me what He would like to do, here in Johnstown.

We are having a prayer and planning meeting this Thursday, March 28 at 8:30 AM at Our Sons Restaurant. You are welcome to come or send a representative of your church. We need your input to make this successful. Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2. It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. 3. It is like the dew of Herman, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing — Life forevermore.

Preaching Reforms: Fresh Love for Preaching, New Life in the WordPastors are invited to join us at Olmsted as we grow into better preachers and encourage each other in ministry. At times dramatically, often imperceptibly, preaching is ever changing church and creation, society and the soul. The power of the preached Word, of the risen Christ preaching as we preach, is even such that preaching has at times undergone its own reformation. How can you participate, with the utmost faithfulness and fruitfulness, in Jesus' ministry of preaching? What are the tried and true avenues of approach to preaching that offer fresh love for preaching, and new life in the Word? Come and be refreshed in this, your highest calling.
