Boys lose to Plainville at substateThe Decatur Community High boys basketball
team fell 68-38 to Plainville in the first round of the substate tournament.
Plainville (18-1) was the No. 1 seed in the tournament while Oberlin (8-11) was No. 8.
Plainville went on to beat Ellis but lost to the No. 2 seed Ness City in the championship.
Oberlin started off well, outscoring the Car-dinals 13-11 in the first quarter. Then it was all downhill, as Plainville came back to outscore
Oberlin 18-9, 22-7 and 17-9 in the last three quarters.
Scoring for Oberlin were Zach May 13, Dalton Jones 10, Shane McEvoy 6, Tyler Bruggeman 4, Tyler Shields 3 and Kennedy Fortin 2.

The Decatur Community High Red Devils ended their wrestling season with more wins than losses and top finishes in two tourna-ments.
Coach Joe Dreher was named the Regional Coach of the Year by the regional wrestling coaches after the Oberlin wrestlers won the regional tournament in Lakin.
Oberlin also won the first tourna-ment of the season in Cambridge, Neb.
The Red Devils took second in the Franklin, Neb., tournament and the Western Kansas Tournament of Champions in Smith Center, They came in third at the Oberlin Invita-tional tournament, fourth in Beloit and fifth at the Class 3-2-1A state tournament, with six contenders and three placers.
The team finished the season 9-5 in dual meets, beating Legend and Eagle Crest from Colorado, Hutchinson, Liberal and McCook. The team took the league dual
championship with victories over Hoxie, St. Francis and Atwood.
Senior Brent Juenemann recorded his 100th high school win and took fifth at the state tournament.
Sophomore Dayton Dreher took third and senior Jeff Shaw fourth at state.
Juniors Kade Brown and Chan-ning Fortin and freshman Troy Juenemann also won berths at state.

Four boys placein wrestling tourney
Four Oberlin Kid wrestlers placed at the Western Kansas Classic in Hays on Saturday.
With 1,100 entries, there was plenty of competition for the 11 Oberlin kid wrestlers.
Alex Eskew was Oberlin’s only champion, but Reece Grafel came in second in his class; Sam Jimenez, third in his; and David Waterman, fourth.

The Decatur Community High girls basketball team ended its season with a 39-28 substate loss to Rawlins County last Monday in Atwood.
The Oberlin Lady Red Devils (3-16) were seeded seventh in the tournament while the Lady Buffalos (14-6) were No. 2.
Atwood went on to beat Wa-Keeney and lose to Oakley, which was seeded No. 1.
In the Oberlin-Atwood game, the Buffaloes outscored the Red Devils in all but the last quarter, 10-9, 11-4 and 9-0. In the fourth quarter, Oberlin was able to come back somewhat, outscoring At-wood 15-9.
Scoring for Oberlin were Miki Dorshorst, 18 points including a three-point shot and five for sev-en at the free-throw line; Darbi Rouse, 5 including a three point-er; Alexis Hissong, 3; and Demi Murray, 2, both free throws.
Hannah May was the top re-bounder with seven, followed by Hissong, six; Kariah Castle, five; Brianna Klima, four; Dor-shorst and Rouse, three each; and Shawn Baker, two.
Dorshorst had two steals and Hissong and Klima had one each.
Castle had a blocked shot.

The Oberlin Kid wrestlers took four firsts, four seconds, three thirds and a pair of fourth places at the Phillipsburg tournament on Feb. 25.
The youngest wrestlers – age 6 and under, 46 pounds – swept the top three places in their category.
