Refer to !predetermined standards Start out by listing all of the
outcomes that you and your! employee agreed to, and! then follow each with a! description of what your! employee did to achieve ! them
Cite !examples
• Just saying “you didn’t meet expectations” doesn’t help anybody!
• Incorporate specific examples into the evaluation !
• The employee will know what they can do to improve going forward
Use facts• Make
sure every state-ment is backed up by cold hard facts!
• You can easily argue with opinion, but you can’t argue with facts
Write to the! employee
Keep the tone! more personal! so the employee! feels like! they’re being talked to, not talked at
Balance out your commentsEven the best worker can benefit from a suggestion for improvement, and even the worst! employee has done! at least something! right
