COURSE INTRODUCTION(1)• Text book : Materi Pokok Writing, Rahmat Budiman, Universitas Terbuka 2011 • Tutorial module consists of 9 parts but will be cover in 8 classes.

Lesson 1 : (Module 1) Grammar (pronouns, present progressive tense atau present continuous tense, article a dan an, there

is dan there are + regular/irregular countable nouns) Writing (mendeskripsikan diri sendiri, seseorang (tokoh yang terkenal), gambar) Lesson 2 : (Module 2 & 3) Grammar (Wh + H question, yes and no question, preposition of places, simple present with be,

preposition of time, simple present with be, quantifiers, penggunaan the, preferences, so & too). Writing (mendeskripsikan tempat tinggal, menunjukkan arah, kegiatan, keluarga, relationship, hal-

hal yang disukai atau tidak disukai)

Lesson 3 : (Module 4) Grammar (penggunaan enough, too/ so + adjectives, modals, imperatives, request) Writing (menulis surat pribadi, kartu pos, dan notes).

Lesson 4 : (Module 5) Grammar (adverb of place, some & any, paragraphing structure, transition, adjectives, to…, for…,

so…that). Writing (mengisi formulir dalam Bahasa Inggris, menulis cerita naratif tentang kegiatan sehari-hari

untuk pribadi maupun orang lain).

since, clauses without wh) Writing (menulis perbedaan antara dua hal, menulis pertanyaan untuk survey, dan

mengembangkan cerita dari gambar).

Lesson 8 : (Module 9) Grammar (conditional if, penggunaan get, future tense, gerund, reported speech). Writing (menulis cerita pengandaian, menulis rencana kegiatan, dan memprediksi akhir dari

sebuah cerita)

ELEMENTS OF A GOOD WRITING

• Writing is a skill that can be practiced and mastered• It is important to understand the way native

speakers of that language organize their thoughts• To write effectively in English, you must conform to

the accepted patterns of organization. Practicing these patterns will put you on the road to becoming a better writer.

ELEMENTS OF GOOD WRITING: SPA

• The most important elements of good writing is SPA is an acronym that stands for subject, purpose, and audience

• You will find it easier to write if you have– a subject that you know well and understand. – a clear purpose for writing.– an audience that you have identified.

• Keeping these three elements in mind will help your writing stay focused.
