BACKGROUND Jockey Club HSBC WWF Hong Kong Hoi Ha Marine Life Centre was officially opened in 2008 in Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park, which is one of the Hong Kong’s first designated Marine Parks in Hong Kong in 1996. It is recognized as a unique site due to its rich diversity of marine life. The establishment of the centre provides access to the priceless marine resource for enjoyment and education. II. THE PROGRAMME WWF has developed the MARINE EDUCATION PROGRAMME (Community Group) for community centres, uniform groups and tertiary institutes. Through doing half-day hands-on activities, participants will be able to experience and explore the coastal environment, marine life in Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park and also learn the importance of sustainable lifestyle. Programme Details No. Theme (Choose 1 ONLY) Programme Content 1 * Story of fish (For aged 6-11 children) Through role-play and a series of interactive activities, participants will be able to experience life of fish, learn their interesting characteristics and understand the global marine problems. Participants will be motivated to conserve our marine environment. 2 Corals and Climate Change (For aged 6-11 children or family) Participants will act as corals and play different games in order to know how climate change threatens corals and therefore, learn some applicable sustainable habits for reducing their carbon footprint in their daily lives. 3 * Fisheries Problem (For aged 6-11 children or family ) Participants will act as fish to experience fish life and understand the threats towards them. Participants will also be encouraged to choose sustainable seafood in order to reduce their ecological footprint. 4 * Coastal Ecologist (For Tertiary institutes) By doing field study in different coastal habitats and observing the interesting marine life, participants can find out the high ecological value of the marine park and understand the inter-relationship between habitats and ecosystem. 1 * Story of fish (For aged 6-11 children)

(For aged 6-11 children or family)

Participants will act as corals and play different games in order to know how climate change threatens corals and therefore, learn some applicable sustainable habits for reducing their carbon footprint in their daily lives.

Participants will act as fish to experience fish life and understand the threats towards them. Participants will also be encouraged to choose sustainable seafood in order to reduce their ecological footprint.

5 Oceanographer (For Tertiary institutes)

By using scientific methods and equipments, participants can measure physical parameters of sea water and exploring the life of planktons. Participants will know the inter-relationship between physical and biological parameters and their importance to the marine environment. (Organizations applied this theme need to pay $800 deposit on the visit day. We will refund it to the organizations after the visit but if any equipment is damaged, organizations should pay the indemnity.)

6 Hoi Ha Exploration

(For 12-18 youth or other age groups)

Participants will use stereomicroscope to explore the interesting plankton world. They will learn the characteristics of planktons and its importance to the nature. An interesting seafood choice activity will also help them to choose sustainable seafood in order to reduce ecological footprint and conserve the marine environment.

Each programme includes around 1 hour Glass-bottomed Boat trip. Participants can take the specially designed glass-bottomed boat to observe the beautiful coral community of Hoi Ha Wan.

This activity is weather dependent. It will be replaced by other activities if the on-site

weather is not favourable for the boat trip.

* Remarks::::Those themes include outdoor activities that are dependent to the weather. Participants are

needed to wade in the shallow water with shorts and canvas shoes and the tide must below 1.3m. Please check the tide level from the Hong Kong Observatory at http://www.hko.gov.hk/tide/eKLWtide.htm before sending in the application. If there is adverse weather, the chosen theme will be replaced by other indoor themes.

III. APPLICATION INFORMATION

Programme Fee : HK$6,500 per group (discounted price)

Date of Programme: Mondays to Sundays (except Wednesdays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and the first 3 days of the Lunar New Year)

Duration : AM session: 09:30 to 13:00 PM session: 13:30 to 17:00

Guidance : Experienced WWF Education Interpreter

Group Size : 20 - 36 people per group (including the person in-charge)

IMPORTANT REMINDERS, PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLICATION:

1. Please submit an individual application form for each visit programme application. All applications will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Programme should be applied 6 months but not less than 2 months in advance.

2. Applicants will be notified of their application result by fax. Payment will be requested once the application is successful.
