Program Overview In 2007, Pioneer Natural Resources (Pioneer) commissioned Norwest to install continuous water level and salinity monitoring equipment at three locations along the Apishapa River: Nations, Eichler, and Lisonbee. Pioneer installed these gaging stations to better understand the interaction between CBM discharge and water quality in the Apishapa River. Each station is instrumented with an In-Situ Aqua Troll 200 datalogger, a Campbell Scientific CR850 direct readout display, and an in-stream staff gage. Both the Aqua Troll 200 and the CR850 record pressure, temperature, and conductivity every 15 minutes. These data are downloaded, water quality samples are collected, and flow measurements are taken every two weeks. Flow measurements are taken using a current meter and are used to develop a rating curve that correlates to the Aqua Troll 200 pressure reading. All data that’s collected are summarized in tables and graphs and can be found at apishapawatershed.org. Apishapa Monitoring Program Results

Monitoring upstream of any intakes provides assurance of water suitability.

Data shows no impairment to the suitability of water for

irrigation. - Maximum SAR recorded at the Lisonbee station was 2.45

on 9/10/2009. - The maximum SC on record is <1,100 µS/cm.

The monitoring programs results have been made available to

the public and CDPHE since the beginning of the program. Crop Yield Impact The following information was taken from the Water Quality Assessment portion of the CDPHE issued Draft Discharge Permit CO0048313 for Pioneer CBM discharges to the Apishapa River. The

entire draft permit and additional information associated with the draft permit can be found at: http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/wq/PermitsUnit/PUBLICNOTICE/publiccommentnewpage.html

The most sensitive crop grown in the area of concern was determined to be Alfalfa, with an irrigation water conductivity threshold of 1.3 (dS/cm). All three of the Pioneer gaging stations, as well as the historic pre-CBM USGS07118500 station, located on the Apishapa River, have conductivity results below this threshold, indicating no reduction in the 100% yield of the Alfalfa crop.
