Set-in pads affect the direct contact to the saddle and thus also your control over the bike. X-BIONIC® therefore saves a section while we are putting together the tights and adds in the X-BIONIC® Pad by hand in its own production process. The pad consists of varying 3D structures on the surface. They absorb sweat, disperse it outwards and also ventilate the area where you contact the seat.

The risk of a friction sore is reduced to practically zero. In addition, the climate-activated nanofilament Skin NODOR® reduces the odour. It also inhibits the growth of microorganisms without disturbing the sensitive pH balance of the skin.

X-BIONIC® builds the Hightech Pad in sections and in various layers and zones based on the human anatomy. Due to the varying zones, an even distribution of pressure on the buttocks is guaranteed. The rider can thus pedal more rhythmically and efficiently. The pads in the front sec-tion consist of a foam; in the rear section of gel “pillows”. It is suited for any riding condition. Aside from the Mountain Bike magazine's readers, we brought knowledge and experience to the X-Ultimate Shirt project with the likes of the Felt Ötztal X-BIONIC World Cup team and Mountain bikers like Udo Kewitsch. Question: mr. scheiderbauer, the team had a successful start in its first season. now the commitment of U-23 World championship runner-up thomas litscher – is this growth for you a driving force?JS: Naturally. Last year went surprisingly well. And every team manager can get very excited about a member like Thomas. However, here we have a team that harmonises perfectly and is outfitted with the newest FELT bikes and with athletic apparel that's super. We have created unique prerequisites. But now only success matters.

Question: the World cup team comprises an international ensem-ble of pros who can all already celebrate victories in their careers. What keeps the works behind-the-scenes greased so they can stay in the tracks of success? JS: First, we have Geri Schrempf, a mechanic who has just heaps of World Cup experience. He's tuned perfectly the racing bikes of top stars such as Olympic champion Sabine Spitz and overall World Cup Cham-pion Lisi Osl. A gifted mechanic and tinkerer, he can pull the last bit out of competition bikes of our athletes and is always optimising weight and material.

Question: the felt Ötztal X-bionic World cup team seems to be well-outfitted for the season. What role does apparel play? JS: A key role. That's why we wanted X-BIONIC® from the beginning. It's much more than functional apparel. It's the perfect interface between man and material. X-BIONIC® develops sophisticated high-tech solutions that can produce the maximum from athlete, gear and weather. There are passionate researchers at work for years who are working hard in innumerable phases of development to perfect every detail. There is simply not any other apparel so well-engineered that meets our demands.

Question: What's the difference in your opinion between X-bionic® and normal athletic apparel?JS: Take for example the X-BIONIC® Symframe Bike Vest. The inte-grated SpaceFrame Technology optimises the microclimate in the cloth-ing. Moist, warm air can escape through the Diffuser on the collar in a controlled manner. These aren't empty words, but rather scientifically based, highly functional ideas. Naturally we've subjected everything to exacting tests and compared it all to the market, but we were always convinced about X-BIONIC®. When we introduced our decision to the team, there was spontaneous applause.

Question: What does that mean to the riders in the end?JS: That they don't have any more excuses to not train when the weather is bad! Or not to give their all in races when it's too hot. We show them how they are always best-outfitted from head-to-toe with the apparel system.

Question: mr. scheiderbauer, could you now that we're at the end of our conversation summarize your goals for the season? JS: Just as the developers at X-BIONIC® use nature as their inspiration and don't just copy it, but rather using their observations draw key conclusions and constantly improve products, we too as a team would like to push our boundaries and exceed them. The focus is reaching the top rung of the World Cup. In addition, we want to achieve the U23 World Championship title with Thomas. And, don't forget: The All-Comers Team already has many more than 1,000 participants who can also learn from the professionals and semi-professionals. A great example from this area is Natascha Binder, who after winning second place in the Trans-Alpine race last year wants to be the overall winner this year.

Jörg Scheiderbauer is the manager of the FELT ÖTZTAL X-BIONIC World Cup Team. He is quite clear on the goal of the season: perfect teamwork of riders, bikes and materials as the key to victory, medals and championships titles. The central focus of his strategy for success: X-BIONIC® as the perfect interface between athlete and bike. “We only work with the best. Everything we do is highly professionally organized. No qusetion: If a rider sits on a racing bike at the start that costs 6,000 Euro, he also must have the best outfit”, he said, summing up the reason for his preference for X-BIONIC®.

The increased body temperature during sport heats up the air underneath the clothing. The pressure difference between the air masses automatically causes the overheated air to rise up towards the cooler layers of air, and to the ambient air. The aera-tion process is activated. In order for the aeration to be used to cool you down, the body needs perspiration. But to produce just one gram of moisture, the body uses up about 3.2 kJ of energy; so uncontrolled perspiration can quickly lead to a loss in performance. So, reducing but not preventing perspiration is the motto for effective cooling during sport. As long as the body perspires, it needs constant cooling, irrespective of the minus temperatures outside. When you stop perspiring the insulation effect has to take over. That is the requirement that today’s high-performance textiles have to meet.
