PURPOSE

Understanding impulsive particle acceleration and plasma heating processes in the solar flares through X-ray polarimetry

•High energy- and time-resolution polarimetric observations •Active regions•Solar flares (non-stationary processes in flares; energy release and energy transport processes in solar flares)•Impulsive acceleration of the non-thermal electrons•Beam diagnostics•Energy deposition in the solar chromosphere •Temperature and differential emission measure studies (plasma diagnostics)•Chemical composition of the coronal plasma;

New X-Ray emission lines and continuum emitted by active solar corona successfully measured for

the first time in the wavelength range 3.3 – 6.1 Å.

RESIK RESULTS

Absolute abundance of argon determined for the first time for

the Sun using direct spectroscopic tools. Similar results for S, Cl, K

(series of ApJ papers)

SphinXSRC CONCEPT, DESIGN & MANUFACTURE

Measures the X-ray emission of the Sun in the 0.8 – 15 keV band with:– Time resolution ~10 μ s– Sensitivity 100 x better than GOES (the standard for 30+ years)– Energy resolution 3x RHESSI (NASA)

Principal aim: to record quiet-Sun level of emission
