SECONDARY “GOLD COAST EXCURSION” On Monday 29th October, 30 DCS students got up bright and early to head off on the trip of a lifetime to the Gold Coast. After all the goodbyes, we finally departed Dunedoo at 6:10am. All the dads had long departed except for Mr Foran (who must have been ensuring Sam was on the bus) with the mums still chatting as the coach drove away. With Mr O’Brien, Mrs Gallagher, Mrs Hogden, Mel Whackett and our coach driver Les, this was going to be a trip to remember. Maddie Cox was the first to ask ‘How much further?’ as the bus exited Coonabarabran, and thankfully for the teach-ers, we had an array of DVD’s to keep them occupied. Twelve hours later we arrived at our destination, CYC Bur-leigh, just in time for dinner and a lovely welcome from the very friendly staff. We had activities prepared for us after dinner - a giant sized boxing ring and a horizontal bungy race which turned out to be loads of fun with not too many injuries. We were all totally exhausted but excitedly anticipating the next day’s events. For the early risers, a 6am walk along Burleigh beach was a great way to start the day. After a cooked breakfast, we headed to MovieWorld. There was not a single moment throughout the day where we saw anyone with a sad face, except those who were scared out of their brains from the Superman ride - 0 to 160 km/h in 2 seconds! Quite a number of students came off the ride unable to speak for quite a while (which was awesome for the teachers). We were lucky enough to have photos taken with Austin Powers, Marilyn Munroe, Edward Scissorhands and so many more stars. It was a fantastic experience for our students and Mrs Hogden the thrill seeker of the group who encour-aged us to join her on rides and pushed us to our limits. One of the highlights of MovieWorld was the stunt show, which everyone loved. There were lots of thrill rides and we have plenty of photos to share. After a huge day we headed back to the place we were calling home for the next week, had dinner, quickly got changed and headed out again for ten pin bowling. Here we were entertained by a cer-tain student who bought out his hidden dance moves (not mentioning any names Kyle Smith). Another fun-filled night, home for supper and some much needed sleep. On Wednesday we headed out to Seaworld. Here we encountered dolphins, seals, stingrays, penguins, sharks, the beautiful polar bear and again lots of thrilling rides. Once again everyone had an absolute ball and had so many things to talk about. The jetski stunt show was spectacular and the girls lined up for photos with the riders because apparently they were sooooo good looking. When we got home we had another beautiful dinner and dessert and headed out for a night beach walk. We played games on the sand with glow sticks and had lots of fun. We were all tucked up in bed and asleep by 10:30 because tomorrow was going to be another huge day. Wet ‘n’ Wild was so much fun and we couldn’t have asked for a better day weatherwise. The wave pool, Calypso Beach, the Black Hole, Mammoth Falls, Kamikaze, the Tornado and the Aqua Ride were just a few of the rides that filled our kids faces with total excitement. Daniel Green broke a Wet ’n’ Wild record by going on the SkateRider 36 times! It was another huge day and not a single sad face except Mr O’Brien who suffered a bad case of sunscreenitis (sunscreen running into his eyes). His eyes swelled up badly and his afternoon was spent seeing the park nurse . We headed home for dinner. After showers and a delicious curry we headed out for some retail therapy. The students were let loose in a shopping centre the size of Dunedoo and we are very proud to report that not one child got lost and they were all back at our meeting place on time. Just goes to show that our country kids are fantastic with direction. It was a fantastic adventure with not too many illnesses or injuries. The staff at CYC Burleigh were very impressed with the friendliness and manners of our students, which is a great reflection on our school and community. I’m sure you have all heard nothing but wonderful reports about the Gold Coast and theme parks. Many are still walking around with smiles on their faces and sharing stories which is priceless. Mel Whackett

LIBRARY REPORT Welcome to Week 5 in the Library. We are busy hosting the Warrumbungles’ Princi-pals’ Meeting today and our Early Bird Kindergarten parents will be here Thursday morning. Thank you to the students who helped organise our library for our visitors and for keeping it clean on Friday. Thank you to everyone who supported out Book Fair. We had over $1600 in sales which gave us over $500 in new books and reward vouchers to spend with Scholastic next year. Book Fair books will be processed this week and be ready for borrowing. The Year 1/2 class created Hedwig owls for Harry Potter which will decorate our space until we switch into Christmas mode. Mrs Abbott

Chaplain’s Chat with Rev. Beth Last week I started discussing making and being friends. Being a friend is a life skill – not just a school skill. No matter how young – or old – we are, we all need friends. Sometimes we have friends in a particular situation and don’t see them outside of this time. An example of this may be those who you go to dance class with, play golf with, or darts against. Some people only mix at netball, or footy – but hardly pass the time of day at work or down the street. As I wander around the school, I often encounter a lot of angst about “My Friend” isn’t talking to me, or is play-ing with someone else. I try to remind them that a friend is special, but that you generally have more than one friend at a time. To be a good friend takes bravery, trust and risk. Friendship is not a natural gift we are born with, friendship and being a friend is something we learn as we grow. A key lesson to friendship is to “Be true to you” – I think it was Shakespeare who said “To thine own self be true,” and that is an important point for all of us. This can be very hard to do. It involves being honest about who you are and not trying to pretend you’re something you are not. Being honest about whom you are is a gift you bring to others, and a friend is someone who accepts you as you are – “Warts and All.” There is enough friendship in the world for everyone to have some, so we all need to enjoy it and not worry about it. Community News D.J.R.L.N

The AGM for the 2012/2013 was recently set down to take place on Monday, 29th October 2012. The meeting was unable to take place due to lack of support in attendance. A further AGM date has now been scheduled for Monday, 12th November at 7.00pm at Dunedoo Sports Club. DJRLN needs parent volunteers to fulfil the role of the committee if the club is to function for the 2013 season. Without a committee, unfortunately the 2013 season is in doubt for our children. All positions will be declared vacant at the AGM, however we are particularly seeking someone to fill the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Netball Coordi-nator, BBQ Coordinator and Canteen Coordinator. Unfortunately, the current people in these positions are unable to continue for the 2013 season, however are willing to support anyone who fills these roles. Parents, please be advised that we all need to contribute in someway to the running of our club. The club is here for our children, and it cannot function without the assistance of parents. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact either Dale Hogden on 0429-041-958 or Melissa Bampton 0429-040-679.

DUNEDOO SWIMMING CLUB NEWS Swimming Club training and time trials begin this week!!! You can still join our club, its not to late!!! If you are interested in Swimming Club for yourself or your children, or just want to find out ‘what its all about, and how it all works’, please feel free to contact Fleur Guan on 0428 751 091. Your child has the opportunity to attend ‘carnivals’ held in other towns. They are a fun day

out, but please remember you don’t have to do them if you don't want to! They are a complete option for anyone who is interested. For those who are interested, here are some more carnivals coming up: Narromine Carnival: 18th November, entries close with Fleur 4pm on the 5/11/12. If you are wanting to nominate for any of these carnivals please contact Fleur Guan on 0428 751091, before

the closing date. Training: will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons commencing at 3.30pm on Monday, 5th November. Time Trials: will commence on Thursday, 8th November, at 6.00pm.
