Central Cross Country Summer Running Schedule At Central High School, we believe that Cross Country is a summer sport that competes in the fall. While summer workouts are “optional,” it is extremely encouraged that you participate in order to prepare your body mentally and physically for the demands of racing at the 5K (3.1 mile) distance once the season begins. We also believe that team unity is strengthened and new friendships will emerge over these summer months as we work and sweat together. Summer running will meet Monday-Friday mornings at the following time and locations: All sessions begin at 7:30 A.M. sharp. After we run we will do some strength exercises and should be done between 8:45-9:00. Please bring your own water bottle, towel, and a stopwatch. Stopwatches are required equipment to participate in the summer running program and the cross country season. No excuses. In addition, GPS watches with heart rate monitors are also encouraged, but not required. Please ask Coach Miller if you need input on which kind to get. Mondays: Meet at Corby Pond. Tuesdays: Meet in the parking lot behind the Indoor Practice Facility at Missouri Western. We will run on the trail. Wednesdays: Meet in the parking lot by the tennis courts at Central High School. We will have a short run followed by weights from 8:30-9:00. Folks can also stick around for ultimate frisbee from 9:00-9:30. Thursdays: Meet at Corby Pond Fridays: Meet at Bode Ice Arena. Weights after at Central from 9:00-9:30. In addition to these workouts, certain varsity athletes will be asked to practice on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday evenings. Coach Miller will let you know what evenings to show up and where. Incoming 8 th graders are encouraged to join us Mon, Tues, and Thurs. Summer workouts begin on Tuesday, May 29 th at Missouri Western. Many of us will be attending a summer cross country camp the week of July 23-27th in Neosho, MO. Anyone interested in coming can register at swmorunningcamp.com. Please let us know if you’ve registered so we have an accurate count. We will try to provide transportation for all campers. The first mandatory day of Cross Country practice for the 2018 season will be Monday, August 6th. (Location and time to be announced) Every athlete must have a completed physical and a concussion test to participate. Various Info: Make sure you have a good pair of running shoes. You will probably need 2 new pairs to get you through the summer and the school season. Talk to Coach Miller if you need help. Adequate sleep, eating well, and drinking plenty of water will help the summer workouts to be a more enjoyable experience. RECRUIT YOUR FRIENDS!!!!!!
