Solar 101

• 2011 – 50,000 Solar systems were installed in the U.S.

• 2014 – 200,000 Solar systems were installed, a four-fold increase in 3 years

Industry Stats

• U.S. Solar market overall grew 30% in 2014 alone

• In 2014, a Solar system was installed every 2.5 minutes – forecast to increase to an installation every 1 minute by end of 2015

• Over half a million homes and businesses now generating Solar energy in the U.S. – number continuing to grow at unprecedented rate

• California – Greater Solar resources which provide high-performing Solar systems resulting in greater savings

• This + higher utility electricity rates = Highest number of Solar installs in the U.S in CA

• New York – Most attractive Solar incentives in place including Federal and State Tax credits

• This + higher utility electricity rates = strong value proposition for Solar in NY

XOOM Solar Target Customer

Maximize the financial benefits

Purchase OptionsOwn Your System – Cash Purchase

• Incentives – Federal tax credit 30%* of the system value; plus local, state or utility incentives like Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) or Feed In Tariffs. Incentives are key to Solar expansion and subject to change, which may impact markets

• Excess Energy Production – In some states, you are paid for any excess of Solar energy over utility consumption, which increases savings

• No Monthly Solar Payments – Monthly utility bill is greatly reduced depending on the size of your system.

*Current rate - subject to change

Own Your System – Financed Purchase

Purchase Options

• Predictable Rates – Loan payments will never increase; once the load is paid, Solar electricity is free for as long as the system is producing

• Excess energy production – In some states, you are paid for any excess of solar energy over utility consumption, which increases savings

• No Maintenance Cost – Owners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the system; Solar energy systems are durable and maintenance-free with warranties up to 25 years on equipment and a 10-year workmanship warranty

The benefits of ownership with little or no up-front costs

Lease or Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)

Purchase Options

Ideal for customers who don’t want financial or maintenance responsibility of ownership, won’t benefit from tax incentives or don’t have a qualifying credit score

•Lease – Owned by finance provider; payments made like a loan over term of lease

•PPA – Owned by finance provider; payments made in accordance with the power produced by the system over the term of the PPA; you only pay for the energy actually produced by the system

Benefits of a Lease and PPA

Purchase Options

The combined cost of a reduced utility bill (if not eliminated) + your Solar Lease or PPA payments results in immediate savings

•Predictable Rates – Costs are predetermined for duration of the Lease or PPA agreement, which may be at fixed rates or with a small annual escalator estimated to be less than anticipated future increases in utility rates

•Excess energy production – In some states, you are paid for any excess of Solar energy over utility consumption, which increases savings

•No Maintenance Costs – The finance company takes care of all system maintenance and insurance costs.

“We don’t have the cash to purchase Solar or can’t afford the monthly payment”

Main Objection

XOOM offers a PPA or Solar lease that makes it simple to get Solar power with little or no cash upfront. PPA or lease payments combined with your new reduced utility bill are typically less than your old monthly utility bill.

So why not put it toward a Solar equipment investment that you will eventually OWN, rather than continue to pay your utility for energy you will never own?

INSTALLATION

1. Equipment: The primary types of equipment required for your home Solar energy system are:

• Solar Panels that capture solar energy

• Inverters that convert the solar energy from direct current to alternating current compatible with your home and appliances

• Racking, which is the hardware that attaches to your roof or property

• Monitoring Equipment, which allows you to track performance of your system

Installation Process

2. Permitting: XOOM Solar coordinates permitting and contracts local installers who are familiar with the requirements for your town, city or county

Installation Process

3. Installation & Interconnection:•After financing is approved, a local XOOM Solar installer will visit the home to conduct a design verification ensuring the system has been correctly designed and the appropriate parts will be ordered. At that point, the customer will sign the contract and the install process begins with acquisition of the necessary permits.

•Permitting and installation will be handled by an experienced local installer who will also arrange interconnections with the Utility to make sure the customer is able to sell energy from their system. All XOOM Solar installers are fully licensed and insured.

•It typically takes 3-6 weeks to acquire the necessary permits for a home solar energy system. Actual install usually takes two days, if scheduled in advance.

Review the Frequently Asked Questions on the XOOM Solar website

Support

• How do I know if Solar works for my Home? Generally solar systems are mounted on the roof. South facing solar panels are best but east and west will also provide you with much of the power. If your roof is not completely shaded for much of the day, faces south, east or west and has space to hold modules you are likely to be able to have a system installed on your roof.

• How reliable is the technology? Solar continues to prove to be a very reliable technology assuredly powering many thousands of homes and businesses. Reliability is supported by impressive warranties from key components such as Modules which typically have 25 year terms and Inverters having 10 years with extended warranty options.

• Does a system only work during the daylight hours? Essentially yes, a PV system produces electricity in daylight hours. However residential systems are usually grid connected which means that when a PV system stops producing electricity, home usage draws power from the grid automatically with no interruption.

Common Support FAQs

• Is my roof suitable for an installation? Most roofs are suitable. However if a roof is due to be replaced in the near future it is advisable to replace it before a system is installed. It is important to discuss this first with your installation professional who will advise you further.

• Does a system require maintenance? There are no moving parts in a typical solar system which contributes to a system requiring minimal to no maintenance. Except for the occasional check and possible washing of the modules a system should require minimal work. You should watch for trees that may grow to become a shade source to your system and take care to see they are trimmed to avoid your system's production being affected.
