• Leader Dashboard: The XV3000 MCU provides a leader dashboard to enable a designated conference leader to control the conference by inviting or removing participants and modify conference parameters (mute, set dominant speaker, etc.).

Product Components

The XV3000 MCU is comprised of an IP-PBX and video/audio conference Multipoint Control Unit (MCU).

IP-PBX

The XV3000 MCU includes Elastix 2.x powered software with optionally installed E1/T1 interfaces. As with

other Xorcom Asterisk-based IP-PBX appliances, it is possible to connect one or more external Astribank

devices via USB 2.0 cables to provide additional telephony interfaces in the system.

MCU

The video/audio MCU component consists of:

Page 4: XV3000 MCU User's Guide · Linphone: XV3000 MCU User's Guide Page 7 of 23 Xorcom Ltd. P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 Tel: +972 4 995-1999 This method is used to provide

• MCU DSP board (MCU-DSP), which is a PCI Express DSP-farm board, designed to provide powerful and cost-effective multimedia processing capabilities. The board has an Ethernet interface that is used for communication with MCU communication software.

• MCU communication software (MCU-CS) that provides SIP User Agent (UA) functionality and communicates with the MCU-DSP via IP protocol. MCU-CS also works as a Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) relay by forwarding the RTP messages to/from MCU-DSP.

• Web-based MCU configuration software

XV3000 MCU Communication Scheme

The MCU-DSP is connected to the IP-PBX eth1 Ethernet interface by straight CAT 5e or CAT 6 cable.

Conference participants can connect to the MCU-CS by using SIP protocol via the eth0 interface of IP-PBX

either through Asterisk (port 5060) or directly to the MCU-CS (port 5070). The RTP messages will always be

transmitted via the eth0 interface and forwarded to/from MCU-DSP by MCU-CS.

Methods to Call the MCU

The IP-PBX users must be able to create SIP calls to the MCU-CS that is running on the same XV3000 and

listens for incoming SIP messages on port 5070/udp.

When the MCU-CS receives a call then it behaves as described in the table below:

Called number Actions Example of SIP request URI

An access number (ref. “System

Settings”/”Access Numbers”)

The caller will be prompted for the

conference number they want to

join, and optionally for a PIN

sip:500@ 192.168.0.61

A meeting room number (ref.

“Conference Management”)

The caller may be prompted to

supply a PIN

sip:100@ 192.168.0.61

An access number, a meeting

room number and PIN

separated by the * sign

The caller will join the requested

conference

sip:500*100*1234@

192.168.0.61

Three methods for configuring the PBX/MCU-CS communication are described below. In all of the examples it

is assumed that:

• the IP address of the IP-PBX (and MCU-CS!) is 192.168.0.61

• the MCU-CS access number is 500

• there is a conference defined as 100

PBX Users Call the MCU via a SIP Trunk

In the PBX configuration it is possible to define a SIP trunk for the MCU-CS and one or more outbound routes

for that trunk.

a) Create a SIP trunk called “ConfBridge”

b) Create an outbound route for calling to this trunk. Define the route name as 'MCU' and choose the prefix

'52' for the route:

Page 6: XV3000 MCU User's Guide · Linphone: XV3000 MCU User's Guide Page 7 of 23 Xorcom Ltd. P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 Tel: +972 4 995-1999 This method is used to provide

Xorcom Ltd. ● P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 ● Tel: +972 4 995-1999 ● www.xorcom.com

The IP-PBX users will have to dial 52 and then any three digits in order to make a call via the “ConfBridge” SIP

trunk. The '52' prefix will be stripped off automatically from the called number. For example, in order to call

the MCU access number 500, the IP-PBX users would dial 52500.

The SIP trunk approach has the following limitation: the callers who access the IP-PBX via the other trunks

will not be able to call MCU unless either:

a) “context=from-internal” is defined for those trunks, which significantly decreases the PBX protection

level, or

b) some special customization for the standard FreePBX dialing plan is implemented.

Alternatively, it is possible to configure the MCU to register the access number(s) and/or the conference

number(s) as regular IP-PBX extensions. In this case the external IP-PBX users will be able to call the

conference bridge, just like they would any other IP-PBX extension.

PBX Users Call the MCU Just Like Regular IP-PBX SIP Extensions

a) Define a SIP IP-PBX extension for each access number and a conference number the MCU should register.

b) Enable the corresponding access number and/or conference number registration in the MCU

configuration. (Ref. topic “Access Numbers” and “Conference Management”.)

Users Call the MCU Directly

The MCU-CS listens for SIP messages on port 5070/udp. Therefore, it is possible to call the MCU-CS directly,

bypassing the IP-PBX. Most SIP video phones allow this. Following is an example of this method using

Linphone:

Page 7: XV3000 MCU User's Guide · Linphone: XV3000 MCU User's Guide Page 7 of 23 Xorcom Ltd. P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 Tel: +972 4 995-1999 This method is used to provide

Xorcom Ltd. ● P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 ● Tel: +972 4 995-1999 ● www.xorcom.com

This method is used to provide the caller with a HD video stream from the conference bridge. Unfortunately,

Asterisk does not handle HD video SDP parameters in the SIP messages correctly. As a result, the MCU does

not get the correct information about the caller capabilities to receive the HD video. The workaround is to

call the MCU directly.

The direct call method may also be useful when dialing the MCU as access_number*room_number*PIN. For

example,

sip:500*100*[email protected]

where

• 500 is the access number

• 100 is the meeting room number

• 1234 is the PIN

IP Settings

The following table describes the required IP settings to be configured depending on the LAN parameters:

IP Conflict: 172.16.200.nnn is already in use on the LAN Required Changes

No IPPBX eth0, MCU-CS

Yes MCU-DSP, IPPBX eth0 and eth1, MCU-CS

IP Settings of the MCU-DSP

The IP address of the MCU-DSP board is written in its EEPROM. By default, the MCU-DSP address is

172.16.200.2. In order to change the address the board must be connected via the RS-232 interface. Please

refer to Appendix A: How to change MCU-DSP IP Settings for further details.

IP Settings of the IP-PBX

The table below contains the default IP settings of IP-PBX:

Interface name Parameters

eth0 DHCP

eth1 IP address: 172.16.200.1 Network mask: 255.255.255.0

Page 8: XV3000 MCU User's Guide · Linphone: XV3000 MCU User's Guide Page 7 of 23 Xorcom Ltd. P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 Tel: +972 4 995-1999 This method is used to provide

Xorcom Ltd. ● P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 ● Tel: +972 4 995-1999 ● www.xorcom.com

If the 172.16.200.nnn addresses are already in use on the LAN then it is necessary to change the IP addresses

of the MCU-DSP and of the eth1 interface in order to avoid conflict of IP addresses. Please refer to Appendix

A: How to change MCU-DSP IP Settings for further details.

Use either the LCD panel or a keyboard and a display monitor to obtain and/or change the eth0 or/and eth1

IP settings. Please refer to Appendix B: How to obtain/change IP address by using the LCD panel or Appendix

C: How to obtain/configure IP address by using a keyboard and a display monitor.

Configuring the MCU-CS IP Settings

The MCU-CS automatically uses the XV3000 IP settings. If the XV3000 IP addresses and/or the MCU-DSP

address have been changed, then it will be necessary to reboot the server in order for the MCU-CS to use the

new settings.

User Management

(SYSTEM SETTINGS / USER MANAGEMENT)

The MCU user list is managed on this page. It is possible to add or remove users, define their role and change

their passwords:

• Add a new user to the system -

• Modify the user information -

• Delete the user from the system -

In order to add a new user, the administrator should define a username, a password and select a role for the

user. The role can be either “admin” or “user”.

• The “admin” role permits access to all system capabilities.

• The “user” role limits the user to creating a conference and viewing the conference information. This role does not allow the user to configure the system and manipulate (add/edit/delete) the other users.

To ensure the system's security, before starting to use the XV3000 MCU it is highly recommended to change

the default user name and password.

SIP Settings

(SYSTEM SETTINGS / SIP CONFIGURATION)

In order for the MCU access phone numbers and/or conference name to be registered on a SIP server as SIP

endpoints the SIP server parameters must be defined on this page. Define the IP-PBX parameters here, as

follows:

• 'asterisk' in the “Domain” field

• the IP-PBX eth0 IP address in the “Registrar IP” field. If the MCU should be registered on the local XV3000 Asterisk server then define 127.0.0.1 as the IP address.

• 5060 in the “Registrar Port” field

The “Local Listening SIP Port” parameter defines the IP ports to which the MCU is listening for incoming SIP messages.

If there are any SIP endpoints that are registered on the MCU they can be seen by clicking on the “Registration Table” button.

Access Numbers

(SYSTEM SETTINGS / ACCESS NUMBERS)

There are two ways to join a conference on the XV3000 MCU:

a) create a SIP call to one of the “access numbers” pre-configured in the MCU. The caller will be prompted

to enter a conference number and then, optionally, the PIN number.

Page 11: XV3000 MCU User's Guide · Linphone: XV3000 MCU User's Guide Page 7 of 23 Xorcom Ltd. P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 Tel: +972 4 995-1999 This method is used to provide

b) create a SIP call to a number assigned for particular conference. The caller will be optionally prompted to

enter their PIN number.

Define a list of access numbers on this page:

It is possible to configure the MCU to register a particular Access Number as a SIP endpoint on the SIP server

that is configured on the “SIP CONFIGURATION” page.

NOTE: A “Video Quality” parameter is set for each access number. This parameter defines the maximum

video resolution of the video stream to be sent to a participant who has joined a conference by dialing that

specific access number.

For example, if you set “Video Quality” as “Normal” (CIF) for a specific access number and the video

conference video quality is defined as “HD” (720p), then all users who access the video conference via the

access number will be limited to CIF resolution.

Appendix A: How to change MCU-DSP IP Settings

Changing the IP address is performed via serial connection (i.e. HyperTerminal in Windows or Minicom in

Linux).

Note! The MCU-DSP card has built-in RS-232/USB adapter. When the MCU-DSP card is connected for the first

time to a PC by the USB cable, the system recognizes a new USB device and the user needs to install a driver

for it. The USB device is called CP2103 (made by Silicon Labs) and its driver can be found on the Silicon Labs'

Web site: http://www.silabs.com/products/interface/usbtouart/Pages/usb-to-uart-bridge.aspx

Step‐1: Configure your PC COM port as follows:

• Bits per second: 115200

• Data bits: 8

• Parity: None

• Stop bits: 1

Appendix B: How to obtain/change IP address by using the LCD panel

a. How to obtain the IP address(es) received from the DHCP server

The XV3000 MCU will try to obtain the IP address from the DHCP server, if one is available. To check

the IP address received by using the LCD panel:

Press the “Menu” button on the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and then navigate as follows:

Status->SystemInfo->IP address

You will see the “IP address:” notification. Scroll down by using the down arrow navigation button on

the LCD to review the received IP addresses for the eth0 and eth1 interfaces. If an interface failed to

receive an IP address from the DHCP server the display will read: 0.0.0.0

b. How to configure a static IP address(es)

Press the “Menu” button on the LCD and navigate to Settings->ManualNet. “Manual Net:” will

appear on the display.

Press the down arrow button on the LCD to navigate from one parameter to another. It is possible to

define the following parameters:

• the default gateway (“Enter gateway”),

• two DNS servers (“Enter DNS1” and “Enter DNS2”)

• IP address and network mask for eth0 (“eth0 IP” and “eth0 Netmask”)

• IP address and network mask for eth1 (“eth1 IP” and “eth1 Netmask”)

Use the number buttons on the LCD to enter the required IP addresses. Use the '*' (asterisk) button

for the '.' (period) character.

Press the Enter button on the LCD once you have defined all the required data. A prompt for

confirmation will be displayed.

Note: The Enter button should be pressed only once after all the parameters are defined. Use the

down arrow and up arrow buttons on the LCD to navigate between parameters.

Appendix C: How to obtain/configure IP address by using a keyboard and a

display monitor

Connect a keyboard and a display monitor.

Login to system as follows:

User name: root

Password: akuo-kfo

Note: The default system keyboard configuration is U.S. When entering the password the - (dash/hyphen) key

is to the right of the 0 (zero) key, no matter which keyboard layout is being used.

a. How to get IP address(es)received from DHCP server

To see the IP addresses of the eth0 and eth1 interfaces use the command: ifconfig -a

A block of data similar to the following will appear:

# ifconfig -a

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 38:60:77:21:11:D9

inet addr:192.168.0.61 Bcast:192.168.15.255 Mask:255.255.240.0

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

RX packets:3536814 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

TX packets:444940 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000

RX bytes:329865724 (314.5 MiB) TX bytes:91941848 (87.6 MiB)

Interrupt:50 Memory:fe600000-fe620000

eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 38:60:77:21:11:DA

inet addr:172.16.200.1 Bcast:172.16.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

RX packets:60899651 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

TX packets:75078407 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

collisions:0 txqueuelen:2000

RX bytes:1013562657 (966.6 MiB) TX bytes:3667353670 (3.4 GiB)

Interrupt:177 Memory:fe400000-fe420000

In this example the eth0 interface received IP address 192.168.0.61. The eth1 interface has IP address

172.16.200.1

b. How to configure a static IP address(es)

Insert the required variables into /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 :

cat > /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 <<EOF

DEVICE=eth0

BOOTPROTO=static

IPADDR=192.168.0.61

Page 21: XV3000 MCU User's Guide · Linphone: XV3000 MCU User's Guide Page 7 of 23 Xorcom Ltd. P.O. Box 60, Misgav Industrial Park 20174 Tel: +972 4 995-1999 This method is used to provide

NETMASK=255.255.255.0

ONBOOT=yes

TYPE=Ethernet

EOF

To define the eth1 interface, then:

cat > /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 <<EOF

DEVICE=eth1

BOOTPROTO=static

IPADDR=172.16.200.1

NETMASK=255.255.0.0

ONBOOT=yes

TYPE=Ethernet

EOF

Define the default gateway in the /etc/sysconfig/network file:

GATEWAY=192.168.0.1

Define the DNS server in the /etc/resolv.conf file:

nameserver 192.168.0.1

Note: Correct network parameters settings are extremely important for normal IP-PBX functionality.

Always make sure that the 'localhost' is defined in the /etc/hosts file:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
