What is the aim of this event?
• Give you the knowledge and the tools to support
the student during Years 10 and into Year 11
• Give a clear understanding of the English Maths
and Science courses and support available.
• Understand the importance of attendance.
What is the impact of parental involvement?
• Parental involvement in a child’s education is a more
influential than academic placement, social class or family
size (Flouri and Buchanan, 2004)
• Parents make the greatest difference to achievement in
supporting their learning in the home rather than
supporting activities in the school (Harris and Goodall,

Tips for top attendance……
1. Only let them stay at home when they are genuinely ill
2. If you are worried about something at school contact the form tutor
3. Try and get appointments out of school time
4. Beware of the “It’s not worth going in today” type of comments
Attend and Achieve!
• Their attendance should be above 97% if they are to achieve their potential
Examinations:Exam board: EdexcelStudents will sit three papers. The first is a non-calculator paper and the other two are calculator papers.The papers each last for 1 hour and 30 minutes and are all equally weighted.
Equipment:Calculators – these are expected to be brought to every lesson. It will be beneficial for students to become familiar with their own calculator that they will use in exams.Compasses, protractor, ruler, pencil, pen, and rubber are also required for their exams.
Revision advice:• Start early• Focus on key points and methods in notes• Use notes to answer questions and practice, practice, practice. “Practice is the
best of all instructors”.• Revision practice should involve answering questions, particularly exam questions.• Practice using their own calculator. • Take short breaks

How can I support my child’s revision for English?1. Revision guides with workbooks or integrated activities.
2. Copies of all set texts.
3. Working out timings for exam questions and then providing timed sessions using past papers from the AQA website.
4. Watch and discuss performances of ‘Macbeth’ and ‘An Inspector Calls’.
5. Re-reading set texts together.
6. Watching and discussing issues on the news on a regular basis.
7. Proof reading all homework for accuracy in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
