OUTLINE

Eden Park High School's Enrichment programme isdesigned to allow every single student to gain new skillsand develop skills they already have. Every child will havethe opportunity to explore a variety of options includingsport, leadership and the creative arts while gainingawards along the way. Each student will select their enrichment options on thefirst day of term and adjustments to student choices canbe made later in the year. Descriptions of each enrichment choice are enclosed inthis booklet.

ABSTRACT EMBROIDERY

SESSION DESCRIPTION The students will work with an embroideryhoop, needle and thread to improve dexterityand hand eye co-ordination and developingfine motor skills. Creativity produce dopamine and uses both sides of the brain.

Stitching is a life skill that on a basic level helps you to fend foryourself, think of all the clothes you can fix for yourself andothers(opportunity for entrepreneurial skills) If you roll with itall sorts of creativity can be unleashed. A great starting point ifyou are interested in any of the creativesubjects.

ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP AWARD

SESSION DESCRIPTION Active citizenship is a process to involvepupils in learning how to take part indemocracy and use their Citizenshipknowledge, skills and understanding to worktogether in trying to make a positivedifference in the world around them.

The awards are based around three areas: learning, school cultureand community. To achieve an award, pupils design, develop,undertake and report on an active citizenship project within one ofthese areas – the project can be on any issue that they carestrongly about and want to challenge, change or improve.

ARTS AWARD (ART)

SESSION DESCRIPTION Students experience an exciting opportunityto create, design and enter a number of livecompetitions. We will look at the Art Worldand see what current competitions are outthere. Whether it is designing thelogo for Google or creating a bag for theDesign Museum, we will see what wecan enter to help you experience the fulldesign process from receiving a briefto meeting the deadline. The students will experience many creative techniques whilecompeting against others to get the students' designs recognised andto express creatively. While doing this, the students will enter theircreative work into the Art Award programme so that the studentscan gain a qualification from the experience. Many of these types ofcompetitions allows the students to become involved in thecommunity and create outcomes which all can benefit from andenjoy.

ARTS AWARD (DRAMA)

SESSION DESCRIPTION The sessions will include a variety ofPerforming Arts activities surrounding Drama.Students will get the opportunityto create and perform work to their peers,gain insight into the world of theatre and howa show is made. Students can present theirfindings through the medium ofperformances and written worksheets, whichcan be collated as evidence toward their ArtsAward.

As students progress through the Arts Award, every young person will beable to discover the enjoyment of creating and participating in artsactivities & experience arts events while developing creativeand communication skills that are essential for success in 21stcentury life. As well as this, each person can explore the work of artistsand craftspeople and gain insights into the professional arts world whilegaining experience and knowledge to help progress into furthereducation and employment.

ARTS AWARD (MUSIC)

SESSION DESCRIPTION Through participating in music enrichmentstudents will have the opportunity to performmusic and create their own music. Throughthe initial sessions, students will explore howmusic technology can be used tocreate music and how to play a variety ofinstruments.

As students’ progress through the term they will specialise in aparticular area they have found most interesting and develop theirskills in this area. This may result in students forming a band withother students, students developing a repertoire of solo pieces on aparticular instrument or creating their own musicusing music sequencing software. The Award this year will allow students to specialise in classicalguitar, gaining new skills and learning how to play the instrument,which can, in time, progress on to electric or bass guitar.

CREST AWARDS

SESSION DESCRIPTION CREST is a nationally recognised scheme forstudent-led project work in the STEM subjects(science, technology, engineering and maths).The award links in to the school's core value of21st Century Skills.

The Bronze level is a perfect introduction to STEM project work foryoung people. Teams of students design their own investigation andrecord their findings, giving them a taste of what it is like to be ascientist or engineer in the real-world. Using model rocket sets, students will build their rockets, understandwhat allows rockets to fly and then calculate the altitude the rocketsreached.

SPORTS - GIVE IT A GO

SESSION DESCRIPTION The aim of the sessions is to allow studentsthe opportunity to try sports that theywouldn't normally play, both at school andat home. Students can begin to enjoy these newsports, such as handball, softball andvolleyball. Each session will introduce a newsport and give the students a new sportingexperience.

At the end of each session, information will be available to thestudents for the relevant sports clubs that they could join outside ofschool, which can allow students to continue their new interest andwho knows, we might have a new star in the sport!
