Yale ASC Newsletter yield • bulldog days • interviews • Office announcements • may 2014 Spring has finally arrived in New Haven, and what a season it has already been for us! April marks a shift to “Yield Season”, and it has been exciting to watch the Class of 2018 truly take shape. We are wrapping up a very strong year for Yale Admissions and the ASC Program. As Yale ambassadors, you met with more applicants than ever before, and our collective outreach efforts have resulted in our highest yield and largest freshman class in recent history! We are happy to report that nearly 72% of admitted students chose Yale, which exceeded our expectations, and our Regular Decision yield of 57% is our highest ever. You can also see that we made significant progress in our pledge to expand college opportunity, especially for low and middle-income students. As a result, Dean of Admissions Jeremiah Quinlan reports that only 10 to 15 offers of admission will be made from Yale’s waiting list. For a detailed press release, please see YaleNews’ recent recap. Mark Dunn ‘07, Director of Outreach and Recruitment, deserves special recognition for rallying the Yale community in support of Bulldog Days on April 22 – 24. Over 1,100 admitted students de- scended upon New Haven, eager to experience life as a Yalie. Amaz- ingly, each visitor was paired with a student host who shared sim- ilar academic or co-curricular interests, and the admitted students took advantage of seemingly countless events ranging from Res- idential College forums, research symposia, to alumni and career panels, and much more. Bulldog Days is a whirlwind for visitors and the Yale community, but Mark’s leadership and guidance made for an unforgettable few days that showcased the very best of Yale! Meanwhile, we realize that many of you were busy organizing your own admitted students’ receptions and meeting your interview- ees to answer the important question, “Why Yale?” The collective effort of our ASC members is critical, and I want to share two posts by admitted students to the Yale Class of 2018 Facebook page that emphasize the influence of individual ASC members: I finally committed to Yale. He drove to my apartment to tell me more about his Yale experience and to answer any questions I had. While our conversation made me realize how much I really loved Yale, the fact that he would go out of his way to drive into NYC at NIGHT to help me with my decision showed me just how helpful, kind, amazing, and supportive Yalies are. Today was the reception for Southern California admits. Yale alumni, and even a Yale dean,

Interview Statistics of 2013- 2014 Admissions Season

We must sadly say farewell to three of our colleagues at the end of this year. Each of them has been a cherished member of our office, but we are excited about their future plans and we hope that you join us in wishing them the best of luck with their future endeavors.

Nicole Chulick is a member of the Yale Class of 2008 and began working for the admissions office in 2011. Nicole read parts of the Midwest, including Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, and Michigan and her fantastic public speaking skills also made her a veteran of our group travel trips with MIT and Brown. Nicole will be studying at Colum-bia’s Teachers College for the next two years, and we wish her the best of luck in New York City.

Bianca Rolon graduated from Yale in 2011 with a degree in Anthro-pology and has been working for the admissions office ever since. As a Yale admissions officer, Bianca has managed numerous territories over the past three years, including Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, Okla-homa, and New Mexico. This summer Bianca is leaving admissions to teach in an elementary school in Washington, D.C. Originally from Florida, Bianca is looking forward to her move to a slightly warmer climate, as well as fulfilling a life-long passion for working with young children.

Finally, the admissions office is sad to be losing Jessie Royce-Hill. Lucky for us, she will be just down the road as the newest Dean of Silliman College. Since 2006, Jessie has been an invaluable member of our team. Most recently she has covered schools in the Boston area and led our senior interviewing program. Under her guidance,

over 5,000 high school seniors have been interviewed on Yale’s cam-pus each year. Next year, Jessie will be returning to her journalistic roots by teaching a writing course for Yale’s English department. We will miss her characteristic wit, her avid love of cycling and fitness, and most of all, her warm presence next year.
