“I  didn't  realize  the  significance  and  clout  of  a  Yale  degree  un7l  a8er  I  had  graduated.  The  Yale  reputa7on  separates  you  from  the  pack  when  searching  for  a  job  and  gives  you  credibility  before  walking  into  an  interview  or  mee7ng.  To  put  it  bluntly:  It  undoubtedly  opens  up  doors  for  you.  I  am  grateful  to  Coach  Stuper  and  the  Yale

baseball  program  for  not  only  providing  me  with  the  opportunity  to  play  D1  baseball  but  also  for  opening  up  a  network  of  contacts  for  me  that  will  prove  to  be  valuable  as

my  professional  career  evolves.”  (’06)

“A8er  obtaining  a  degree  from  Yale  and  playing  baseball  for  4  years,  I  realized  that  I  can  essen7ally  do  anything  I  want  to  do.  I've  completed  my  first  year  as  a  law  clerk  for  a  firm  specializing  in  large  cases  regarding  business  li7ga7on  and  employment.  The  way  that  I  landed  the  job  was  similar  to  that  of  many  Yalies,  networking  within  the  Yale  community.  I  would  tell  every  recruit  to  aQend  Yale  because  it  is  an  experience

like  no  other  and  the  opportuni7es  a8er  Yale  are  endless.”  (Yale  Class  of  2008)

“I  have  always  remained  acutely  conscious  of  having  been  fortunate  to  a8end  Yale  and  play  baseball  there  as  scholarship  student,  so  have  made  consistent  effort  over  years  to

give  back.  My  Yale  friends  remain  my  closest  and  most  special  associates.”  (’66)

“Yale  sparked  my  interest  in  exploraFon-‐-‐been  to  140+  countries  with  my  work  on  aLtudes  and  business  pracFces  around  the  globe.  Saw  all  star  games  in  Korea,  Japan;  b-‐ball  games  in  Mexico  City  and  Finland,  Netherlands,  and  played  baseball

in  Australia.”  (Yale  ’73)

Page 9: Yale Baseball Academics

“While  I  have  done  many  things  since  Yale  in  which  I  take  great  pride,  the  one  thing  that  consistently  opens  doors,  starts  conversaFons  and  generally  leads

people  to  regard  me  as  someone  of  substance  is  the  fact  that  I  went  to  Yale.”  (Class  of  ’93)

“I  will  say  that  my  first  job  at  Ropes  &  Gray  was  largely  due  to  Yale  Baseball.    My  grades  were  not  quite  at  the  level  they  needed  to  be  for  that  firm,  but  the

on-‐campus  interviewer  at  Duke  was  a  former  Yale  Baseball  Alum,  Brien  O'Connor.    Brien  went  on  to  be  a  great  mentor  and  friend  of  mine.    To  this

day  I  am  convinced  that  Yale  baseball  opened  that  door.”

“My  experience  at  Yale  is  without  a  quesFon  the  single  most  influenFal  of  my  life.    I  would  say  that  every  single  career  opportunity  I  have  had  since

graduaFng  has  been  a  direct  result  of  my  having  gone  to  Yale.    I  was  able  to  change  careers  on  a  dime,  without  any  experience  whatsoever,  simply  because  being  a  Yale  graduate  implies  some  level  of  competence  and  ability  (though  in  my  case  I'm  not  so  sure  of  that!).    The  people  you  meet,  the  experiences  you  have,  and  the  credibility  you  carry  will  certainly  open  doors  that  are  closed  to

others.”  (’00)

“The  Yale  Endowment  Fund  has  invested  with  my  firm,  and  while  this  rela7onship  was  earned  in  the  marketplace,  the  ini7al  introduc7on  resulted  from  Yale  network.  While  I  would  like  to  think  I  can  take  credit  for  most  of  my  accomplishments,  my  Yale  affilia7on  has  no  doubt  contributed  to  my  being

invited  to  join  non–profit  boards  and  par7cipate  in  various  business  ventures,  and  elevated  my  social  standing.”  ‘77

Page 10: Yale Baseball Academics

“Yale  was  a  privilege  and  I  am  thankful  each  day  for  the  good  fortune  of  having  aQended  the  finest  college  in  America.”  ‘80

“During  my  senior  year  at  Yale  I  came  in  contact  with  an  Alumnus  who  supports  the  Yale  Baseball  program  who  has  since  become  my  mentor.  He  told  me  at

the  Fme  that  Yale  will  open  doors  for  you  in  the  future  that  you  don't  even  know  exist.  Over  the  last  couple  of  years,  I  have  learned  that  the  pride  each  member  of  the  Yale  community  feels  results  in  a  sense  of  loyalty  and  desire  to  help  out  fellow  Yale  men  and  women.  It  was  the  Yale  AthleFcs  Network  that  was  responsible  for  me  geLng  my  internship  aber  my  Junior  year  and  for  me  geLng  my  current  job.  The  Alumni  network  generously  offers  their  Fme  and  advice  for  careers  and  for  life  whether  it  be  on  the  phone  or  over  dinner  at  the  Yale  club.  It  is  a  truly  valuable  resource  and  a  community  I  am  glad  to  be  a

part  of.”  –Yale  2008

“A  Yale  degree  opens  doors  and  many  windows,  too!!”  (’86)

“One  of  my  Yale  classmates,  a  four-‐year  football  starter,  arranged  for  an  interview  with  a  successful  law  firm  in  New  Orleans,  LA.  Based  on  both  our  Yale  degrees,  I  have  worked  there  for  nearly  four  years.    It  is  doubiul  that  I  would  have  even  received  an  interview  without  my  Yale  connecFons  given  that  I  was

not  a  naFve  of  Louisiana.”  ‘02

“Yale  Baseball  is  a  common  bond  shared  by  the  most  amazing  friends  I  have  in  my  life.    Being  part  of  a  team  comprised  of  the  best  and  brightest  has  allowed  me  to  learn  and  excel  both  on  the  baseball  field  and  in  everyday  life.    A8er  my  baseball  career,  I  have  never  encountered  trouble  finding

contacts  in  any  industry  as  Yale  Baseball  alumi  and  Yale  Baseball  fans  are  diverse  in  nature,  yet  all  willing  to  share  experiences  that  will  help  you  to  gain  status  in  life.”  (Yale  Class  of  ’08)

Page 11: Yale Baseball Academics

“A  Yale  degree  is  a  pedigree  and  immediately  puts  an  exclama7on  point  on  your  resume.”  (Yale  ’05)

“None  of  whatever  I  have  achieved  since  college  would  have  been  available

to  me  without  being  part  of  the  Yale  Community  and  parFcularly  the  Baseball  program.  An  inner  city  Chicago  boy  and  public  school  product,

baseball  is  what  exposed  me  to  Yale  and  once  in  the  School,  aided  my  ability  to  balance  mulFple  prioriFes  (school  and  Division  I  baseball  then;  work  and  family  now).  The  Fght  knit  Yale  community  brings  a  student/athlete  close  to  their  peers  (not  only  those  parFcipaFng  in  sports)  and  those  relaFonships  have  survived  the  test  of  Fme.  I  sFll  maintain  close  friendships  with  the

majority  of  my  Yale  friends  (met  both  on  and  off  the  athleFc  field),  some  of  whom  have  very  visible  careers  (such  as  A8orney  General  for  the  State  of  Maryland,  a  Tony  Award  recognized  playwright  and  a  Federal  Judge)  while  others  have  moved  into  less  visible,  but  criFcal  professions  such  as  teaching  and  other  community  service  avocaFons.  To  this  day,  at  the  age  of  47,  I  conFnue  to  play  baseball  on  a  compeFFve  level  (over  30  league)  mainly

because  of  the  enjoyment  that  the  sport  brought  me  all  through  Yale.”  (Class  of  1985)

“I  have  no  ques7on  that  both  Yale  and  baseball  significantly  contributed  to  the  success  (good  fortune)  that  I      have  had  since  gradua7on.”  (Yale

’63)
