Dedication to PerfectionThis wood will make a fine guitar. Our craftsmen can sense it. Holding it in their

hands, thumping on it with their fingers, they know what wood is ready to be craftedand which pieces will make a fine guitar.

Making a guitar requires a high level of sensitivity and a deep dedication to the art.Our master craftsmen possess those qualities and more. They have honed their skillsto perfection and the results are obvious in the guitars they make. Look at theinstruments with a shellac finish. Applied by hand it requires a process that involves300 micro thin coatings of an all-natural shellac over a period of three months. There are only a few craftsmen left in the world with that kind of dedication toperfection.

Dedicated to providing you with instruments of the highest quality has always been, and will always be our goal. Instruments we are proud of. Instruments worthy of theYamaha name.

Acquired KnowledgeMuch of the knowledge, techniques and basic designs

used in creating our classical guitars were gained under thetutelage of two very prominent master guitar makers,Eduardo Ferrer and Manuel Hernandez (Hernandez yAguado). In spending two years under the tutelage ofEduardo Ferrer, our staff learned the traditional way andonly way to create truly fine acoustic guitars. Thatknowledge and experience led to the introduction of ourrenowned Grand Concert series. We then went on to furtherour knowledge under the guidance of Manuel Hernandez, who also provided technical assistance to our staff. Thisfruitful relationship led to further development andrefinement of the Grand Concert series and gave our mastercraftsmen the knowledge and experience necessary todevelop original models like our GC70.

The knowledge they shared with us, from the criticalselection of materials, down to the fine art of finishing andpolishing allowed us to cultivate the techniques andsensitivity it takes to make the minute adjustments andsubtle modifications that traditional guitar productiondemands. In this day of modern technology, it is getting hardto find the kind of dedication to traditional methods that ourmaster craftsmen possess. We are proud of the skills wehave acquired and proud of the guitars that those skillsallow us to create.

Our top end model uses an original design developed with know-how gainedfrom our experiences with Ferrer and Hernandez. This instrument is made bythe hands of master craftsmen in our custom shop using top quality solidRumanian spruce or top quality solid American cedar, solid Brazilianrosewood and finished with a natural shellac. Its wide dynamic range, robustvolume and bright mids and highs that make it excellent for concert usecharacterize the GC70’s tone. All in all, a superlative instrument that is trulyworthy of its “Grand Concert” name.

Original design developed with advice given by Andres Segovia. Topquality solid Rumanian spruce, solid Brazilian rosewood and finishedwith a natural shellac.Best replicating the tone of certain renowned guitars created in the mid20th century, the CG71 delivers a clear, sensitive tone that accuratelyreproduces the slightest nuances of the guitarists touch.

Respected by top artists worldwide forits exceptional tone and quality, the GC70series guitars are individually hand-madewith the skill and dedication to perfectionof our master craftsmen. Starting withmaterials, only the best woods, seasonedfor a minimum of ten years, are hand-selected by our craftsmen who will thentake up to six months to give life to aninstrument of unparalleled quality andperformance. Back and sides are of thehighest quality Brazilian rosewood while achoice of tops, solid cedar for a warmsweet tone, and solid Rumanian spruce fora clear rich resonance, is available for thediscerning player. Top, sides and back areluxuriously hand finished with an allnatural shellac using a traditional processthat takes up to three months to complete. The GC70 also features gold plated keys, fine purling, delicate inlays and deepnatural finishes. An instrument of thehighest quality created with the unendingdedication and pride of our mastercraftsmen.

GC70

GC71Developed to meet the high standards set by

Andres Segovia, the GC71 came to life after manyin depth discussions concerning the sound ofthe guitar with the maestro. The instrumentproduces a milder tone due to the reducedangle of the head. Also, a slightly different bodyshape and specially designed bracing isincorporated for greater bass response.

ShellacThis natural finish is made by mixing asecretion produced by an insect with treeresins, which is then refined with alcohol.A single, micro thin coat of shellac ishand-rubbed onto the instrument and leftto dry completely before the next coat isapplied. More than 3 months and 300hand-rubbed coats later, this painstakingprocess results in a finish that is nothingless than priceless.

GC70/60 BracingNext to the selection of thewoods, the most critical factoraffecting the instruments finalsound is the bracing of theguitar top. Based on a patternproposed by Torres in the1880’s, Yamaha has refined andimproved on this design toensure optimum tone andvolume with modern strings andplaying techniques.

GCNothing compares to the exceptional

tone and quality that instruments ourmaster craftsmen deliver. The GC60 andGC50 are created using the same topquality seasoned woods, skills anddedication to perfection as the GC70 andGC71.

The GC60 is our standard mastercraftsmen model featuring solid back andsides of Brazilian rosewood and eitherRumanian spruce or American cedar forits solid top. Immaculate fretwork, finepurling and delicate inlays show theminute attention to detail that ourcraftsmen pay to each instrument.

The GC50 is also and instrument ofhigh quality that offers excellent costperformance in a master craftsman guitar.Created from the same top quality woods, each guitar is made with the same fineattention to detail and dedication toperfection by our master craftsmen.

Bridge & SaddleThe thickness of the third string in a nylonset tends to limit its movement at the bridgeand nut causing it to behave as if it wereshorter than the other strings. Thus notes onthe third string tend to be slightly sharperthan the rest. Yamaha’s solution to eliminatethis common intonation problem is with aspecial offset step cut into the saddle at thethird string, accurately compensating for thedeviation in pitch and providing perfectintonation over the instruments entire range.

CGXThe CGX series guitars are acoustic/

electric instruments that offer the addedflexibility that amplification can provide. TheCGX171CCA utilizes a two-way pickup systemconsisting of a B-Band Pickup™ mountedunderneath the saddle and a condenser micmounted inside the body on the end of aflexible gooseneck for full, mature acoustictone. Designed with Flamenco players inmind, the CGX171SCF combines a cypressback and sides with a solid spruce top toproduce a light tone that is bright with ashort sustain. It uses the same two-waypickup system as found in the CGX171CCA.The CGX11SCA and CGX101A both utilize theB-Band Pickup™ system mountedunderneath the saddle. Controls for thishighly responsive pickup system are locatedon the side for easy access. The CGX171CCA and CGX111SCA aredesigned with slightly narrower body depthfor increased playability, and are equippedwith a truss rod in the neck for greaterstability.

Electric Classical Guitars

CGX171CCA / CGX171SCFBoth the CGX171CCA and CGX171SCF utilize an ultra thinB-Band Pickup™ mounted underneath the saddle. The signalfrom this highly responsive pickup is combined with thatfrom a condenser microphone mounted on the end of agooseneck inside the guitar’s body. This combination offersgreater acoustic realism and depth. Controls include mastervolume, high, mid, and low tone controls with an adjustablemid range frequency control, a mic volume for blendingsignals from the B-Band and mic, and a phase switch forgreater tonal variation and help eliminate feedback at highvolumes.

CGX111SCA / CGX101AThe signal from the B-BandPickup™ system mountedunderneath the saddles on theCGX111SCA and CGX101A isprocessed through a preampthat includes master volume,3-band EQ (high, mid, low),and an adjustable midfrequency for greater soundtailoring.
