BRING IT: THE YAMAHA PSR-S650 PORTABLE DIGITAL KEYBOARD
SAVES AND RECALLS YOUR CREATIVITY ‘IN A FLASH’
NASHVILLE—Yamaha Keyboard Division unveils the PSR-S650 arranger keyboard at
Summer NAMM 2011. Featuring FlashROM Expansion, the entry-level PSR-S650 now
offers MegaVoice enhanced Styles found on higher-end Yamaha arrangers.
A great "first serious keyboard" for adult performers and keyboard enthusiasts
alike, the PSR-S650 can load sample data like Voices, drums and percussion and make it
instantly available in FlashROM without reloading at each power-up. Styles with
MegaVoices make non-keyboard instrument Voices (like guitars and basses) sound
authentic using musical articulation previously not playable from black & white keys.
The PSR-S650 internal FlashROM Expansion can store up to 16MB of sample
data, which is great for augmenting the existing set of 864 internal sounds with your own.
The keyboard also offers 181 built-in Styles ready to perform with players when writing
songs or just jamming. You can also play in custom tunings, like Arabic or Pythagorean,
using one of the nine preset scales—or create your own.
Users can record songs or their performances during jam sessions to the built-in
16-track sequencer and use the PSR-S650's USB TO DEVICE port to store songs, Styles
and custom registrations on a flash drive. Create custom Styles by mixing and matching
parts and sections from the internal Styles. The USB TO HOST port connects to your
computer and the PSR-S650can be used as a 64-note, multi-timbral tone generator.
PSR-S650
“Building on the success of the PSR-S550B, we've packed the new PSR-S650
with great new content for just about any style of musician,” says Dane Madsen, Yamaha
Electronic Keyboard Marketing Manager. “With its excellent, built-in ethnic content and
the ability to load 3rd party or custom samples, this product is ideally suited to the
expanding world music and international markets. Its cutting-edge electronic Style
content means that there’s plenty for western musicians to sink their teeth into as well. ”
Electronic Keyboard Product Manager Nate Tschetter added, “The PSR-S650's
built-in FlashROM Expansion is an excellent feature at this price. Load your samples into
memory once, and they remain there even when you turn the instrument off. This is a
great way to build your own "always there" set of sounds and augment the already
substantial built-in Voice library.
The PSR-S650 (MSRP: $999) is now shipping.
MO-MOXIE: GOING MOBILE WITH THE NEW YAMAHA MOX8
AND MOX6 MUSIC PRODUCTION SYNTHESIZERS
—Integration Meets Inspiration; Connectivity Meets Mobility— NASHVILLE—Be moved and get moving with the new value-packed MOX8 and
MOX6 music production synthesizers, which feature MOTIF XS power and quality in a
portable body casing.
“These are very lightweight, but powerful keyboards,” said Athan Billias,
Director of Marketing for Yamaha’s Pro Audio and Combo Division. “They offer
heavyweight features at a nice price. Pound-for-pound, these are the most powerful,
mobile and affordable Yamaha music workstations ever offered.”
Features include the latest sounds, with 1,217 Voices and 355MB of waveforms
taken directly from the MOTIF XS. Expanded Articulation offers realistic replication of
acoustic instruments and exotic synth sounds. It also includes the same synth engine as its
big brother with 18 different filter types, along with the ability to replicate warm, natural
vintage sounds via Virtual Circuit Modeling.
MOX8
The MOX keyboards make song creation easy, with 256 Performance patterns to
spark musical inspiration, 6,720 arpeggiator patterns and a four-part interactive arpeggio
engine taken from the MOTIF XS. A Performance Creator feature allows for easy set-up
of splits, layers and drum parts. The integrated USB audio/MIDI interface eliminates the
need for a separate audio I/O for creating music with a PC. Record the MOX directly into
a PC and add vocals or guitars through the stereo A/D input channel. Direct Performance
recording lets players record directly into the sequencer.
In addition to the built-in 4-in/2-out USB audio interface, the MOX keyboards
accommodate any ASIO based software. MIDI keyboard controller functionality controls
DAW and VST programs with ease. Both keyboards come with a software package that
includes the Cubase AI5 48-track DAW program, Yamaha YC-3B soft synth organ and
Steinberg Prologue analog modeling synth.
The MOX8 (MSRP: $1,999), with 88 Graded Hammer Standard keys, weighs
32.6 lbs. The MOX6 (MSRP: $1,499), with 61 semi-weighted keys, weighs 15.4 lbs.
YAMAHA DTX-PAD ELECTRONIC DRUM SETS NOW AVAILABLE IN NEW DTX500 AND DTX700 SERIES CONFIGURATIONS
— New DTX-PADs, Cymbals, Rack Systems and Modules Create a Lineup of
Affordable Kits Designed to Suit Any Drumming Situation — NASHVILLE—Yamaha premieres its new, complete lineup of DTXdrums electronic
drum sets at Musikmesse, the world’s largest musical instrument trade show. All but one
of the new kits feature the innovative DTX-PAD with Textured Cellular Silicone (T.C.S.)
playing surface, which debuted in the DTX 900 series and won “Best In Show” last
January at the 2010 Winter NAMM industry trade event. The DTX-PAD lives up to its
reputation for providing natural feel and response and allows for the development of
acoustic drumming techniques.
“The DTX900 electronic drums have shaken up the drum market,” said Athan
Billias, Director of Marketing, Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo
Division. “Now, we’re bringing this great technology to a much wider range of
drummers, who have more choices than ever to experience the DTX-PAD.”
Beginning with the Musikmesse product launch, Yamaha is using a numbering
system to designate their different series of electronic drum kits based on the drum
“brain” used in the configuration. All the kits in the 500 series feature the redesigned
DTX500 Drum Trigger Module, which includes 427 drum, percussion and effect sounds,
along with 50 pre-set drum kits and 20 user-editable kits. It also features on-board
practice tools, play-along and recording functions, MIDI out and 12 trigger inputs
compatible with a the full range of DTX-PADs and cymbals.
The entry model is the new DTX500K, a five-piece kit based on the best selling
DTXPLORER, and while it is the only kit that does not have a DTX-PAD in the box, it is
the only one that includes a real Yamaha bass drum pedal. The DTX520K features the
new three-zone XP80 8” DTX-PAD snare, the new three-Zone PCY100 10” crash
cymbal and new RS500 rack system. The DTX530K includes the same drum pad
configuration but adds the RHH135 vertical motion hi-hat system and the three-zone
PCY135 13” cymbals for ride and crash. Finally, the top model in the 500 series, the
DTX560K, features three new XP70 7” DTX-PAD toms for a full DTX-PAD play
experience all around the kit.
DTX-520K
“Naming the kits in our new drum series this way gives Yamaha a lot of
flexibility to create new configurations of DTX-PAD kits”, says Tom Griffin, Yamaha
Product Specialist. “And all of these new lower-priced components will make it easier
for drummers to integrate the DTX-PAD into their setup and potentially step up to
different components whenever they choose.”
For the intermediate 700 series of instruments, all models feature the new
DTX700 Drum Trigger Module, with 1,268 drum sounds, powerful DSP effects and 128
keyboard and melodic sounds drawn from the flagship MOTIF-XF synthesizer
workstation. Additionally, drummers can import their favorite audio samples into the
64MB of Flash-ROM for customizing the sound set. Fully computer compatible, the
DTX700 module includes a USB port for storing and loading files, and a USB-to-Host
port for sending MIDI in and out to the included Cubase AI Digital Audio Workstation
software.
The DTX700K uses the same pad, cymbal and rack configuration as the
DTX560K, but the DTX750K ups the ante with three-zone DTX-PADs for the snare and
toms, two crash cymbals, and a larger PCY155 15” ride cymbal all on the new RS700
rack with real drum hardware. The DTX790K uses larger DTX-PADs for all drums,
including a large kick pad, and each drum has a control knob for adjusting the tone right
from the pad.
Yamaha designed its innovative new DTX-PAD with input from the company’s
legendary roster of drum artists. The Textured Cellular Silicone head features a
proprietary manufacturing process that introduces small air bubbles into foamed silicone
to provide playability and feel unlike any pad introduced to market. With years of
designing and building some of the world’s finest drums, Yamaha DTXdrums’ new
series of instruments lets drummers express their passion for rhythm just as they can on
an acoustic kit. These drum kits are perfect for quiet practice, playing live or as a
controller for VST instruments.
Prices for the new drums are as follows: the DTX790K (MSRP: $5,752),
DTX750K (MSRP: $4,825), DTX700 (MSRP: $3,467), DTX560K ($2,779), DTX530K
(MSRP: $1,874), DTX520K (MSRP: $1,649) and DTX500K (MSRP: $1,197).

A-SERIES: NEW, BOLD GENERATION OF YAMAHA ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITARS REDEFINES TONE, FEEL AND PLAYABILITY
—A New Look, A New Feel, A New Sound for Yamaha Guitars—
NASHVILLE — A new generation of Yamaha acoustic-electric guitars is now shipping.
Yamaha Guitars is proud to expand on its successful line-up of acoustic-electric guitars
with the unveiling of the new A-Series handcrafted guitars. Featuring a new look, a new
feel and a new sound, the A-Series launches Yamaha into a previously untapped market
segment by providing a professional instrument designed to be the workhorse of any
steel-string guitarist’s arsenal.
Offered in a dreadnought cutaway and a concert size cutaway, the A–Series
represents a departure from the look of Yamaha’s acclaimed FG Series and L Series
guitars. From the new headstock design to the touch-of-class rosette and mahogany
binding, Yamaha has focused on every detail to create the feel and playability sought by
today’s acoustic-electric guitar player. Featuring a slim neck profile and a rounded
fretboard edge, the A-Series delivers ease and comfort. Yamaha also increased its
traditional string spacing and lowered the action to accommodate today’s players. In
addition, the semi-open pore finish on the necks of the A-Series maintains the wood’s
feel, yet also enhances playability.
Tone is always key to an acoustic electric guitar and Yamaha has overachieved
with the A-Series. Dreadnought and concert shapes are offered in Mahogany back and
sides and Rosewood back and sides. All models feature solid spruce tops and are outfitted
with new S.R.T. (Studio Response Technology) electronics developed by Yamaha.
The new S.R.T. preamp, an exclusive Yamaha technology, incorporates a piezo
pickup system with a built-in microphone modeling technique specific to each guitar
model. The S.R.T. system lets players choose from three different mic settings that can be
blended with the piezo pickup, delivering on the often-elusive dream of providing studio-
quality sound while playing live on stage. In addition, the S.R.T. system’s feedback
detector cancels feedback frequencies in live situations.

“We often hear stories from artists and customers that their first guitar was a
Yamaha and now, with the new A-Series, their next guitar should also be a Yamaha,”
said Dennis Webster, Marketing Manager, Yamaha Guitars. “The new handcrafted A-
Series guitars exhibit many firsts for Yamaha acoustic-electric guitars while delivering an
outstanding look, unbelievable tone, and a comfortable feel. With these incredible
guitars, Yamaha will reach new players.”
Armando Vega, Product Manager, Yamaha Guitars, said “this guitar is definitely
designed for frequent performers who require a reliable workhorse that looks great, feels
great and sounds amazing in all applications.”
