ROSH HASHANA

CHOICE OF MACHZOR

KMS uses and follows the 1-volume Birnbaum Machzor. Several of our members use the Artscroll or Koren versions of the machzor. Accordingly the Seder Hayom that follows provides a play-by-play with page numbers listed for these machzorim. Accordingly, please note that certain pages and/or words may be slightly different if you are using a different machzor.

WEARING A KITTEL

The shul’s minhag is that a kittel is not required to be worn by the Chazan for Maariv and Mincha on Rosh Hashanah

RESPONSIVE READINGS

Unless otherwise noted in the machzor, all responsive readings and piyutim are done in the following manner: the chazan reads the first clause/verse and the congregation repeats that clause/verse. For all other clauses/verses, the congregation reads the clause/verse first and then the chazan repeats the clause/verse just said by the congregation.

ASSIGNED SEATING

During services on the First night of Rosh Hashana and for both mornings, the KMS assigned seating is in effect.

• Mincha Day 1 / Maariv day 2 Services will be held in the Sanctuary with open seating

• Mincha Day 2 / Kabbalat Shabbat Services will be held in the Sanctuary with open seating

ERUV TAVSHILIN

Eruv Tavshilin must be made at home on Wednesday prior to Yom Tov to enable preparations on Friday for Shabbat.

Notes for Yom Kippur

CHOICE OF MACHZOR

KMS uses and follows the 1-volume Birnbaum Machzor. Several of our members use the Artscroll or Koren machzor. Accordingly the Seder Hayom that follows provides a play-by-play with page numbers listed for these machzorim. Accordingly, please note that certain pages and/or words may be slightly different if you are using a different machzor.

MINCHA FOR EREV YOM KIPPUR

We daven a regular mincha but include Viduy in the Silent Amidah (but not in Chazarat Hashatz).

WEARING A KITTEL

The shul’s minhag is that a kittel is to be worn by the Chazan for all of Yom Kippur

SELICHOT

These are generally difficult for the congregation to follow. Accordingly, please make an effort to lead clearly and loudly. As a general matter, though, we go back to the main paragraph of “Keil Melech” and the few lines after that paragraph each time and proceed such that we say the 13 Attributes of Hashem together.

ASSIGNED SEATING

Assigned seating is in effect throughout Yom Kippur

YOM KIPPUR - NEILAH

Neilah is a unique tefillah during the year. It is comprised of an Amidah and Chazarat Hashatz which includes many different piyutim and selichot. We say all of Neilah without skipping any portion. Neilah ends with Aveinu Makleinu, the responsive reading of several verses, kaddish and a shofar blast. The Aron is open for all of Chazarat HaShatz during Neilah except for the concluding verses and kaddish and it is preferable to remain standing during the entire tefillah.
