WELCOME TO THE CLUB: U-14 STRIKERSThere’s a new team in town. The inaugural

season for the Yankee U-14 Strikers was launched at the TWIST tournament in Wallingford, CT on August 15-16. For a team that had never played together before, it was a learning experience for all with little victories and lots of development opportunities!

The highlight of the tournament for the Strikers came during an afternoon match against the New England Comets, a Division 1 rival. After a scoreless first half, the Comets scored on a breakaway by Shea Connors to take the lead. Two minutes later, Katie Danaher sent a free kick soaring to the Comets touch line, left of the goal, where Keely Lockwood corralled it and crossed the ball beautifully to Allie Furlo, who scored by leaping in the air and redirecting the ball into the far corner. Ten minutes later the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

The majority of the Strikers played for Beachside Soccer Club in '07-08 and '08-09 seasons. In the Spring of 2008, they reached the finals of the Baltimore March Madness Tournament, losing in PKs to the Severna Park Kickers (MD). The team also was a finalist at the PDA Spring Kickoff Tournament, losing to Nirvana Nirvana (E-NY) in the championship game 2-1. In the Fall of 2008, the team won the HBC Peter Renzulli Memorial Tournament in Huntington, NY by defeating all four teams in the Premier bracket. They completed the Fall 2008 premier season with a record of 8-2, qualifying them for Division 1 play in the Spring of 2009. In the Winter of 2009, the team won the Teaneck Winter Showcase Tournament and in the Spring they reached the finals of the Adidas Memorial Day Tournament, losing 1-0 to SOCA of Virginia in the championship game. After a difficult 0-2 start to the Spring 2009 season, the team

finished with a Division 1 record of 1-3-3, including a hard fought 1-1 tie against the 2009 U-13 State Champion CFC Rocky Hill Wolves. As the latest addition to the Yankee Premier Soccer Program, the Strikers look forward to contributing to the club's tradition of success and achievement.

“I am very impressed with the talent of these girls and the heart that they showed in this tournament,” said Coach Jack Nogueira. “I look for this team to accomplish great things.”

KIA MCNEILL NAMED ASSISTANT COACH AT BCBoston College Women's Soccer Coach Alison

Kulik has announced the addition of former Boston College defender Kia McNeill to her coaching staff. McNeill will join Kulik, new assistant coach Neel Bhattacharjee and Director of Women's Soccer Operations Mike LaVigne on the women's soccer staff for the 2009 season. McNeill is an alumnus of the Yankee United program.

"I am really excited that I was presented with the opportunity to return to BC. I have a lot of respect for the University and particularly the women's soccer program,'' said McNeill. "I loved playing at BC and look forward to coming back to work with the student-athletes and coaches. I look forward to learning from the staff and the athletes as well as implementing my own insight.''

McNeill has been busy in the past year. After graduating from the Heights in May 2008, McNeill went to Sweden to play for Kristianstads. On January 16, 2009, McNeill was drafted ninth overall by the

Saint Louis Athletica of the Women's Professional Soccer League. McNeill is the starting central defender and has started eight of nine games.

A native of Avon, CT, McNeill was a four-year starter and played in 86 consecutive games. McNeill played up front for the first three seasons and pulled the switch her senior season to be a defender. The move proved to be the key as McNeill was crucial to the Eagles defense as it was ranked sixth in the country in goals-against-average (0.475). McNeill finished her career 61 career points, good enough for eighth on the all-time scoring list at BC.

TEAM NEWS U-13 Hurricanes

The Hurricanes finished 3-2-1 in their recent U12 Developmental Spring Season and capped their season off with a double overtime Championship win at the Kicks for Kids Soccer Invitational in Hershey, PA. Led by Coach Daniel Uhrlass and Coach Steve Waizenegger our commitment to all players and emphasis on unselfish play & passing is what separates our team from every other program. We certainly earned the respect of our competition and generated interest where we've added four key players to this year’s squad; Samantha Kratky, Courtney Overacker, Virgine Larouche and Tori Stapelton. This fine group of ladies are currently ranked top ten in the state of CT and definitely up to the challenge for their U13 Qualifying season.

U14 Strikers

The Strikers will have a very busy Fall season, with 5 league games and 7 friendly’s against top Connecticut teams. The season schedule finishes strong with consecutive matches against last year’s State Cup Finalists CFC Wolves and CFC Arsenal.
