2016 Young Artist Platform Winners Suzanne Fischer, soprano & Panaretos Kyriatzidis, piano Oxford Lieder Young Artist Award Oxford Lieder grants Young Artist Awards to two or three outstanding duos each year and as part of the award arranges a series of paid song recitals for them at music clubs and festivals in the UK. To qualify for the award each artist must be enrolled at a leading UK conservatoire, demonstrate a superior level of musicianship and have outstanding performance skills. Our winning artists are already at the outset of major careers in classical music. Recital Bursary Scheme Oxford Lieder offers generous bursaries to a limited number of concert clubs, music societies and festivals each year who wish to offer recitals to these exceptional young musicians. Oxford Lieder will support 50% of the fee of £600 per duo (Oxford Lieder pays £300 per duo and the promoter pays £300 per duo plus reasonable travel and accommodation expenses). We will put you directly in touch with the chosen artists to develop an interesting and attractive programme that appeals to your audience. Oxford Lieder will also support the promotion of the concert by advertising on our website and via our e-mail list. We also provide help with producing texts and translations for your concert print programme free of charge. Including texts and translations in the recital programme is

Suzanne Fischer, soprano

A Britten Pears Young Artist, soprano Suzanne Fischer won the Förderpreis for most promising young-artist at Das Lied: International Song Competition 2015, the Pavarotti Prize at the 65th Viotti Competition, Italy and won 4th place at the International ARD Competition in Munich. In Summer 2016 she will return to Glyndebourne Opera.

Operatic roles include Ginevra/Ariodante for Tristan & Associates and Katja/O.H.I.O for the Deutsche Oper Berlin, further performances include Gilda, Olympia and Konstanze. An avid interpreter of lied, Suzanne and lied partner Jonathan Ware have given recitals at Lied-Festival Rüedlinger in Switzerland, Bieberstein Castle in Saxony and the Barenboim Foundation, Berlin.

Suzanne read Music at the University of Edinburgh and Università degli Studi di Milano and is currently completing her MA in Voice (Opera) at

the Hanns Eisler Conservatoire in Berlin with KS Thomas Quasthoff. She is fluent in Italian and German. Suzanne is immensely grateful for the support from the Countess of Munster and Help Musicians UK during her training. 

Panaretos Kyriatzidis, piano

A versatile, award-winning musician, Panaretos is increasingly sought after as a collaborative performer. Recent highlights include winning joint first prize for the Gerald Moore Award and reaching the finals of the Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation International Song Competition with baritone James Newby.

As a postgraduate student at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Panaretos won 1st prize for The Elizabeth Schumann Lieder Competition, The English Song Competition, Il Circolo Solo Piano Competition, The Leonard Smith & Felicity Young Duo Competition and the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition (with the Bedriska Trio). He was also awarded the David Gosling Prize for excellence in accompaniment, and the John Thompson Prize twice for chamber music.

Panaretos has attended numerous masterclasses, including the Oxford Lieder Festival Residential Mastercourse, and holds a BA in Law from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is currently a Junior Fellow in Accompaniment at Trinity Laban. www.panaretoskyriatzidis.com

Spanish soprano Lorena Paz Nieto is currently with Royal Academy Opera studying with Philip Doghan and Audrey Hyland. Lorena completed her MA-Prep Opera at the Academy, achieving a Distinction and a DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. Her 1st Class Honours (BMus) from GSMD was with Katherine Paterson and Lada Valesova.

Concert performances include: BBC Radio 3 broadcast with BBC Symphony Orchestra, Total immersion/Villa-Lobos at Milton Court, Steve Reich’s Reverberations in Tyondai Braxton’s Central Market at the Barbican and London Sinfonietta at QEH performing with guitarist Eduardo Niebla. Solo operatic roles at GSMD include Cis in Albert Herring, Marzellina in Fidelio and the Spirit in Dido and Aeneas at GSMD and also Barbarina at the Hackney Empire. At RAM she played Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s dream in the Opera Scenes. In March 2016 she performed Pannochka from Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night and in May, Drusilla from Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazzione di Poppea.

She is the Winner of the Russian Song competition at RAM and finalist for the Richard Lewis Award. In 2015 she was finalist for the Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform, highly commended for the Marjorie Thomas Art of Song Prize and commended for the Elena Gerhardt Lieder Prize and Mozart competition. Johan Barnoin, piano

Johan Barnoin was born and raised in Nice, France. He took an interest in music from an early age and began playing the piano at 7 years old. For 11 years Johan studied under Cecile Collin, at the Conservatoire de Nice. At the conservatoire he took part in many masterclasses with professors including Phillipe Bianconi, Prisca Benoit and Michael Levinas. At the age of 14 he was selected to play for a Steinway piano event with Claude Bowling. After graduating from Conservatoire de Nice, Johan was selected as “young talent” and gained sponsorship from his regional council. Johan is in his fourth undergraduate year at the Royal Academy of Music where he studies under Nicola Eimer and Ian Brown.

During his time at the academy he has taken part in many performance classes and masterclasses. He has taken a keen interest in Chamber Music, collaborating with violinists, double bassists and singers. Johan has had much success as a song accompanist, winning both the Ludmilla

Andrews Russian Song accompanist Prize and the Joan Chissell/Rex Stephens Schumann Prize. He was also a finalist for the prestigious Richard Lewis Award and Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform in 2015. He has played in masterclasses with Roger Vignoles, Andrew West and Wolfgang Holzmair.
