A Commitment to

Saturday, March 9th, 2013 • 1:00 mst

Greetings from the beautiful mountains of Southern Utah. Welcome to our 40th annual bull sale. We look for-ward to seeing and hearing from you. We have something for everyone in this sale and the quality is as good as you can find anyplace in America. These cattle have worked for us, they have worked for hundreds of others and they will work for you. They are backed by many generations of highly productive cow families THAT HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. OUR BULLS ARE BRED WITH THE COMMERCIAL CATTLEMEN IN MIND! We strive to produce bulls that are moderate framed, deep bodied, thick, easy fleshing, heavily muscled and maintain maternal strength. The bulls summer in high altitudes, up to 10,200 feet elevation. They have to trail 25 miles to get there, and 25 miles back in the fall, so they have to be structurally correct. Our cows produce the kind of seed stock that survives and females that are raised and developed under the same conditions that our commercial customers run under. We have sold cattle into 30 states and they have proven themselves to adapt to all environments. As always, OUR OBFECTIVE IS THE PRO-DUCTION OF CATLE THAT HAVE A LASTING ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE AND MAKE A PROFIT FOR OUR CUS-TOMERS. It is the mother cow that is the most important part of any operation. Our commitment is to continue to produce efficient cows that are gentle, deep, thick square hipped, easy fleshing and long lived. The power of our cattle is bred in, not fed on. The daughters of these bulls you buy from us will be the best replacement females you have owned. We expect these cows to stay fat and maintain their body weight while raising a 700 lb. lf without creep. The true value of a beef cow is her ability to convert grass and forage to protein. NO MACHINE CAN BEGIN TO COMPETE IN EFFICIENCY OR THE COST OF OPERATION WITH A GRAZING COW. Our cows are run on a grass and forage based operation the year around. Easy fleshing is a function of body type and not an EPD or any other number. All my life I have bred performance and perfect conformation in these cattle. Many people have told us that all three of our breeds look alike. We analyze EPD’s but the main selection tool that I have always used is individual

performance, birth weights, weaning weights and yearling weights, plus eye appealing good looks. It really upsets me that most of these breed associations and many breeders don’t want to furnish this individual performance. They just want to go entirely on EPD’s and carcass data as their only selection tool . This leaves a plain made, hard doing cow base that is hard to look at. WE HAVE BEEN AI’ing FOR 45 YEARS. I will be 80 years old on March 15th. I married late in life. I spent the first half of my life raising cattle, but the 2nd half I have combined with raising a wonderful family. This has enriched my life and made me by far happier than any-thing else. I’ve got a lovely, gracious wife who is an example of a pure Christian. She is a great mother and homemaker. We have a great family who loves God, and we all love each other and the ranch, cattle and good beautiful horses. Fami-lies are the greatest blessing anyone can have and are the basis of any successful society. Family traditions are part of the weave of ranch life in the West and farm life in the East, fostering the passage of knowledge, honesty, integrity and hard work between the generations who take part in this unique and wonderful way of life. We are very grateful for the hard work of our family and our dedicated hired men, Josue Garcia and Jose Guz-man. We are so blessed to live in American and have FREEDOM. I hope and pray they’ll never take it away from us. I am sure that you were all saddened, as we were at the outcome of the Presidential elections. We pray that the Republicans will be conservative and follow the Constitu-tion, downsize government size and spending, the National debt, the EPA and governmental regulations, and repeal the endangered species and wetlands act, or at least modify them. We are very grateful for all of you business. Thank for your confidence in our program. We appreciate your friendship more than anything else. We look for ward to seeing you on sale day. If you have any questions please call us.

Sincerely yours for a better cattle business,

nformationDad will be 80 years old on March 15th. His greatest accom-plishment is the wonderful family he has raised who he dearly loves and who love him and each other. They all love God, the ranch, the land, the cattle and good beautiful horses. Dad has always loved and raised good working, loud colored horses: paints, roans, buckskins, blues, and blacks. He has horses with perfect conformation: little heads, big hips, short backs and deep bodies; that watch a cow, are gentle, with quiet dispositions and are good travelers with smooth gaits. His horses are a part of the family. One of his greatest loves is his mare Milly shown on the cover and several places througout the catalog. They have traveled thousands of miles together and she is his true and constant companion. There will never be another quite like her. He has had the same family of paints for 67 years. Dad enjoys convenient corrals, barns, sheds, and gates that save time and nerves. Jeannie says that after handling cattle in several other states it makes her appreciate so much Dad’s innovative, time saving and convenient facilities and she has never seen any-thing that compares with them anyplace else.Video’s Will be posted Monday, March 4th, 2013 • www.yardleycattle.com

ultrASouNd eXplANAtioNPrOcedUre: Body composition measurements are taken with an Aloka 500 real-time ultrasound machine connected to a transducer that has been designed specifically for animal use. Scan measurements for fat thickness and ribeye area are taken at the 12-13th ribs. The scans are stored and returned to the ISU Animal Science Department for processing.

AdjUstmeNts: Ribeye area and marbling are adjusted to 365 days using a linear per day of age adjustment. The external fat measurement is not age adjusted.

ribeye AreA: Ribeye area is measured in square inches. Ribeye area is positively and highly correlated with retail product. The heritability of this trait is moderately high, meaning that the trait will be passed on to the progeny. According to the NCA National Beef Quality Audit 1991, ribeye of 11 to 14 square inches are most appropriate for cutting 1-inch thick steaks weighing 8 to 10 ounces.

fAt thickNess: Fat thickness is measured in inches. Fat thickness is good indicator of percent retail products. The higher the fat thickness, the lower the percent retail product. Fat thickness is slightly lower in heritability than ribeye area.

mArbLiNg: Marbling is measured as percent fat. Heritability for marbling is in the moderate range. Beef carcasses are traded on the amount of intramuscular fat (marbling) they contain at the 12-13th ribs. However, marbling is a very subjective score. Real-time ultrasound has the capability to predict the actual percent fat in the ribeye muscle which is what the USDA grader is primarily trying to visually evaluate. Several research studies have indicated that the genetic correlation between marbling and fat thickness are very low, meaning that producers can select for increased marbling and not have to be concerned about having animals put on additional external fat.

All bulls selling for $1500 or more will be covered 50% by Yardley Cattle Co. if they are injured during their first breeding season. Breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bulls.

50% of the value of the injured bull, minus one-half salvage value, will be given as credit in a future sale or toward a replacement bull if one is available. Salvage value, if any, will be split equally between Yardley Cattle Co. and the buyer. All injured bulls must be diagnosed by a veterinarian. Please notify us as soon as possible should injury occur and prior to the injured bull being sold for salvage. All claims must be made by October 1st. We will not replace a dead animal for any reason.

PLEASE BRAND YOUR CATTLE WHEN YOU GET HOME!

We cull bulls from branding up until the sale for structural soundness, quality, breeding soundness, and temperament. Not every bull is destined to sire calves. AS SEEDSTOCK PRODUCERS WE TAKE THE RESPONSIBLITY TO MARKET QUALITY BULLS SERIOUS. We realize that your success depends upon our breeding program and we strive to have quality from the first lot sold to the last bull to walk through the sale ring.

We have always concentrated on producing a functional, balanced, all purpose beef animal. One that is thick and moderate framed, not too big or too small, and that has a natural fleshing ability. If a cow has feed, I expect her to

stay fat while raising a 700 lb. calf. We believe in a balance between performance, eye appeal, and maternal traits. Above all, we have eliminated the problem cattle. To achieve balance, ranchers need cattle that are not necessarily the tops in all traits, but they can’t be weak in one single trait.

BAlANCe

Our bulls are not pampered and are not overly fat. They are developed on high roughage rations for comparison only and not for maximum gain. You will not be paying for over fleshing that will melt away as the breeding season progresses. By not force feeding these bulls, you can be assured they will be sound, athletic, and ready to service cows. They are grown in big lots where they get lots of exercise, so they can take the toughest ranges. These bulls are grown mostly on hay with a 50/50 alfalfa grass mix with less than 1% of their body weight in grain.

The beef industry has accepted Simmental as the “continental breed of choice” and has once again remembered that there is only one FREE GIFT that the

Lord above has given to the industry and that gift is heterosis or “hybrid vigor.” Each year we strive to raise the bar and produce a set of bulls that exceeds our previous offering. As you take the time to walk through the bull pens, you’ll visualize a consistent quality set of bulls in all three breeds. Dad’s favorite saying is “A GOOD BULL MUST HAVE A GOOD MOTHER.” Our cattle have endured continuous selection pressure and uncompromising standards. These high volume, functional females have natural fleshing ability, are deep ribbed and thick. We run like any top commercial outfit with a forage grazing program year round. Yardley females winter on desert winter range without any hay, calve unassisted, breed back quickly, summer in the mountains and wean a 700# calf without creep. Our main focus is producing cattle that make our customers profitable. THE SIMMENTAL BREED IS ON FIRE AND GROWING MORE POPULAR EVER DAY!

We are extremely excited to start our offering this year with a full brother to the legendary High Regard, our 2010 sale topper selling for $30,000 to Wernings and John Goeken of South Dakota. His daughters have been topping sales including a $30,000 heifer at Wernings and a $20,000 heifer at Grindstone Creek Farms. Z386 brings the same style and dimension to the table with an added dose of depth and substance. Big-footed, stout and sound with a smooth shoulder, big hind quarter, and depth throughout Lot 1 promises to be the kind of female-maker that has made Yardley High Regard so popular.

You’ve seen the ads, you’ve read the write ups “Brock,” is an eye catcher with just the right amount of chrome. He packs as much mass, width and power as any bull in the sale and has been a favorite all winter long. Rarely have we had a bull that has done so much good in such a short amount of time as his sire, Billy the Kid. Heifers and bulls alike are both at the top of the pen with the depth and softness that is missing in too much of the breed. T50, his powerful dam has averaged over 700# on her calves. RETAINING ½ Possesion and ½ Semen interest. Don’t miss out on your chance to own in on the next up and coming Yardley herd sire.

As the lead gainer in the pen, his performance is unmatched, but performance is just the beginning, the length and depth of this bull come together in a complete stylish package. Performance hails from both sides of his pedigree. A maternal brother to this bull sold for $5,750 to our long time friends and customers Max and Lex Firth of Malad, Idaho. Sundance, had the four top gainers in the pen. His dam averaged over 690# on five head of calves.

With depth and eye appeal, 317 has got the look to make him a success at producing broody made feminine females of show ring quality that will grow up to make quality females out in the pasture. Stout and big footed with a smooth shoulder 317 has caught the eye of many prestigious cattlemen across the Nation. Performance packed and powerfully made. 370 was the high performing bull at 818#, indexing at 121. He has continued to push down the scales while maintaining a moderate frame. He moves out nice, is wide based and stylish. His sire, Conductor was 2009 Grand Champion at Dixie National, and Division Champion at the American Royal. M100 x Steel Force has probably been the most profitable flush we have ever done on our ranch. A full sister to 486 sold as a feature bred for $5,600 to our friend Adam Wood of Ithica, Michigan. A full brother sold for $8,600 in last years sale. M100 is generations good and generations consistent with a long line of top quality females behind her. If you like them big and stout then you’ll love 314. He is a pound making powerhouse. Come weaning time you won’t regret having him in the herd. His grand dam G68 was one of the best half bloods we have ever owned out of C72. C72 has had more influence on our Angus herd than almost any other cow.

374 Is a long bodied, powerful profiled bull with dimension, a strong top line and plenty of width. He was in the top ten in the pen for performance and growth weaning at 748#, and a yearling weight of 1,300#! 374’s dam’s bull calves have averaged over $5,000. When you cross Royal Jet on powerful Simmental females this is the result. 298 is a soggy made, soft, smooth shouldered calf with tons of middle and a powerful hind quarter. He moves out with grace and confidence. His dam always stays fat and brings home a big calf in the fall. Her nine calves have averaged over 700# at weaning. Moderating your replacements, while increasing your weaning weights, seems like a nearly impossible task to do simultaneously. It seems that you are always having to give up one to get the other. With 294 you can do both. He is a very moderate framed calf that weighs up like lead. This tank had a 1407 adj YW. THE BIGGEST YW IN THE PEN. He is soggy, deep, wide and good. His dam is a beautiful Steel Force daughter that we bought out of John Griswold’s sale.

At the time I thought they would be a while getting a return on investment, how wrong I was; good cattle don’t cost money they make money. Her first calf sold in the GCC ’11 sale for $29,000. Her second calf, a full brother to 351 sold for $7,750 to Blake Prather of Clovis New Mexico. 351 is the right kind, he’s been good from the day he hit the ground.

The Angus Association has done a tremendous job at marketing their product and creating a demand for quality beef. The base to create a crossbreeding system around the Angus breed is second to none with a great deal of

advantages. We receive many sale catalogs from programs across the Nation as I am sure many of you do. As one studies the literature the force towards single trait selection is an area for concern. Carcass data has increased in leaps and bounds throughout the last five years, yet as cattlemen it is important that we realize that data is a tool. When selection is made off paper alone and visual analysis is left out of the equation a dead end road is not far off. We spend a great deal of time traveling around the Country each year, mainly to look at cattle. There are great programs across the Country, each with different selection criteria’s and goals. I’ve witnessed both ends of the spectrum in the Angus breed. There are cattle that look great on paper yet when you step out in the corral they lack natural thickness, depth and bone that is needed to withstand the rigors of breeding cows in a range like environment. As seed stock producers we strive to select individuals that will work in our customers programs. “We have really worked to try and keep the natural thickness, square tops, depth, good bone & legs, and natural fleshing ability in our Angus herd with performance needed to help you as cattlemen make money. Some of our Angus have outgained our Simmentals. These are noT ordinary angus. you won’T find beTTer angus Than These anyplace in america” –Gib Yardley

We have never had a more complete, powerful, structurally correct, phenotypicaly perfect Angus calf on the ranch. He is wide based, big topped, deep and soggy with muscular expression throughout. He has perfect hair, good bone, the ideal leg set with big testicles and a smooth shoulder. He moves out nice, tracks wide and fills in his track with a big foot. His numbers are equally impressive; despite his moderate size he had the fourth highest YW and WDA in our Angus pen. His dam out of OCC Doctor is as pretty of an Angus cow as we own; super feminine and broody with a nice tight udder and teeny little teats. She has produced six calves with an impressive 729# WW average! We have been extremely pleased with SAV Mustang, more than any SAV bull we have used. In 2011 we partnered with John Griswold in purchasing North Country from Soo Line Cattle Company in Canada for $14,000. He is the result mating of two of the greatest individuals they have ever owned. Soo Line Annie K was Champion Female at World Angus Forum in 2009. She is a phenotypicaly flawless female that later sold for $100,000. Kodiak sold for $150,000, being the exclusive sire of the first Canadian pen of three to win the Angus pen of three show at Denver. North Country brings big body, bone, and muscle expression in a classy package. Many of his offspring sell in this sale. His Grand Dam is an equally impressive maternal powerhouse. On five calves, with four heifers, she has averaged 77# BW and 725# WW. Lut has probably done as good of job as any bull in the Angus breed for making showy, stylish, structurally sound show cattle. 390 is a perfect example of this. He could easily have been in a pen of three or up on the hill in Denver. He is powerfully made, big ribbed, deep in the flank, with a massive hind quarter. His numbers are equally impressive. He was the second high gainer in the pen. His dam W153 is a beautiful cow. She is a moderate framed with a good hip and nice udder. Her calves have averaged 80# BW, 756# WW, 1367 YW. We are extremely excited this year to offer Z261, a full brother to both our own herd sire Royal Jet and Yardley Jet of Honor, the $8,000 lead off Angus bull in last years sale. Royal Jet has matured into as pretty and complete of bull as we own. Their mother R192 is a maternal powerhouse whose dam G65 was one of our Angus matriarchs. 342 is built like a brick house; extremely deep and wide in his dimension yet soft made and soggy throughout. He had explosive growth from birth to weaning and then moderated out on his yearling weight. All signs point to a sire of easy fleshing moderate cattle with adequate growth to bring home a big calf in the fall, but without all the frame. A maternal brother sold for $5,250 in our 2010 sale.

N171 is as pretty of an Angus donor cow as we own. She is a moderate made, super wide and thick ground sow with tons of depth and rib. She has teeny teats and a little bag. We will be having several flush mates next year to this bull. They are stylish, correct cattle with good leg sets, lots of bone, big hips and cool fronted. These inspired words of the immortal President Abraham Lincoln were given to me by long time friend Bert Smith, owner of Smith & Edwards Store in North Ogden, UT. Bert is now 92 years old and has been one of America’s greatest defenders of the U.S. Constitu-tion. We need to give these inspired words to Obama, his cabinet, illegal czars, the liberal news media, the congress and state legislators. If they would follow these words it would solve the nations problems.

This sale high light has really came on and bellied down since his picture. Most of the bulls in this pen were younger calves but are equally impressive in terms of quality and performance to their older counterparts. 423 traces his roots back into the heart of the Yardley cow herd with his maternal grand dam, E119 one of the best donor cows to grace our ranch. If I were a gambling man I would bet my bottom dollar on Z479. This is an exceptional herd sire prospect in terms of pedigree, performance, and phenotype. Whirl of a Dream’s calves nearly burned down the barn in last year’s sale; with two sons each selling for $9,500 and the lot of them averaging over $7,000. Much to our dismay this is his only son in this years sale, but what a bull! He’s awesome, from his extended neck and smooth shoulder to his big butt, wide top and deep belly. He is soft, stylish and flexible.

Great cow families make great bulls and Z449 comes from one of the best. His dam H27 is as solid of a cow as we have had on the ranch. We have flushed her and one of her daughters, M100. These matriarchs constitute one of the best cow lines on the ranch. At 14 yrs old this was her last calf. He is a solid piece of pure Yardley genetics at their finest. We seldom show pictures of our winter range but it is vitally as important as a summer country. Our cattle calve and many of them reside in breeding pastures on desert winter range 40 miles west of Beaver from December until July. Our cows will stay fatter out there than the ones we keep home and feed hay.

When we select herd sires from our own calf battery we’re pretty critical of them on every angle possible. We take great merit in the cow family from which they evolve, their dam and grand dam’s udder quality, fleshing ability, performance and overall aye appeal, coupled with the bull’s individual merits. When the dust settled for selecting a herd sire in 2011 Messenger stood at the top of the list. Don’t be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.” ~Unknown

In Lovinv Memory OF A GOOD FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR JORDAN HATCH

We were all very saddened at the untimely death of Jordan who was only 47 years old. The road to his summer range is so steep getting to their range that they can’t take a trailer up and have to haul their horses in a pickup. On the way down the pickup slid off the road and the truck went off an embankment and killed him and his horse. Jordan was a great friend and neighbor who

would do anything for anybody. When he was in college he and several college friends clipped our sale bulls for several years. His winter range joins ours and his family’s summer range joins us also. Jordan was a teacher and taught heavy equipment operation at College of Eastern Utah in Price. Then he and his Dad run these cattle also. His Dad, Ira Wallace Hatch, married Tawnya & Rodney in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple. Jordan was a director of the Utah Farm Bureau. He and his wife JoNell have 2 daughters and a son, who is on a LDS Mission in England. Jordans funeral was one of the largest I have ever attended, and filled the Stake

Center with over 1500 people. Jordan was escorted to the cemetery in a wagon, pulled by a team of beautiful Belgiums followed by an honor guard of pallbearers, family and closest friends all on horses. JORDAN, EVERYONE MISSES YOU SO MUCH, ESPECIALLY YOUR COUSIN Paul. Jordan and Paul spent every weekend together out on the winter range when their cattle were out there. Paul and Jordan were closer than brothers. We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to know such a fine man and cattleman. We miss you Jordan. GOD BLESS YOUR WONDERFUL FAMILY.

This tremendous bull has it all: depth, width, structural soundness, style and dimension blended together in a soggy and soft made moderate package. The high power Angus cow-Fortune cross has a sure fire result every time. It definitely hit the nail on the head this time. This bull was the top gainer in the pen with performance almost unheard of in the Maine Anjou breed; 721# WW and 1323# YW! The four top gainers in the pen are sired by Fortune.

Here is one of the most complete packages of the sale. He is wide based, big topped, showy and stout with super cool hair and ultra sound. He is the second high gainer in the pen and out of S100, one of our favorite Angus cows. She has as pretty of phenotype as you can put together. She always stays fat and brings home a nice calf in the fall. We can not stress enough the maternal power backing these bulls. Fortune calves have more power and performance than any other Maine bull we have used. Five of the top six gainers in the pen were sired by Fortune.

Calving heifers. We calve from 100-200 heifers every year and we always watch them closely.

We always try to breed them to an easy calving bull. However, I don’t care how much of a calving ease bull you buy, if you want a live calf you have got to get up at 2:00 in the morning. We check our heifers every 4 hours. IF YOU GET THEM TOO FAT OR TOO THIN YOU ARE ALSO GOING TO HAVE TROUBLES. We don’t feed them

over 1/3 alfalfa and they need some exercise. They need a little protein or the calves will be born weak and are a lot more susceptible to scours. But too much protein makes the calves bigger. All females should be watched closely during calving. You can’t predict whether any virgin bull will be a heifer bull until he’s sired a crop of calves. THE BEST WAY TO AVOID CALVING PROBLEMS IS TO EXPECT YOU WILL HAVE THEM.

All of my great grandparents were converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons) in the mid 1800s. My dad’s side of the family was converted in England and Tennessee. My mother’s ancestors were natives of Switzerland, England, and of English descent living in Capetown South Africa when they joined the Church. That should give my family a lot of hybrid vigor! You might wonder why they would all join our Church; it was because they were all searching for the true Church of Jesus Christ on the earth. Our Church was organized April 6, 1830 by Joseph Smith, who was a prophet of God, in Palmyra, western New York State. Our early mem-bers went to Kirtland, Ohio, and then to Jackson County in western Missouri, and then to Nauvoo, Il. They were severely persecuted and driven from their homes, and Joseph Smith was killed by a wicked mob. He died a martyr, which sealed his testimony with his own blood.Brigham Young then became our Prophet, and led our people across the Great Plains in covered wagons, arriving in the Salt lake Valley on July 24, 1847. July 24th is one of the biggest holidays of the year here in Utah. From there, they settled all over the western United States in the beautiful valley’s of the mountains, and also in South Alberta, Canada, and northern Mexico. They came to this area that nobody else wanted, so that they could worship God as they so desired, live in peace and not be molested by the rest of the world. There was nothing much here, and they had to develop the first irrigation in the United States. But through the hard work, sweat, perseverance, and with faith in God, they made the desert blossom as the rose. From a beginning of six members, our Church now has over 14,000,000 members world-wide. It is one of the fastest growing churches in the world and has the largest building program of any organization in the world. The church has quite a few large ranches, and runs more breeding cows that any-one else in the United States. In February 1856, my great grandfather, James P. Anderson, was called by Church leaders along with 13 other men to settle the beauti-ful Beaver River Valley. My great grandfather Yardley and his family arrived a short time later. My great grandmother Eliza Morton joined the Church in England when she was 18 years old. Her wealthy family kicked her and her sister out, and they came to America. She never saw or heard from her family again. They joined the Martin handcart Com-pany, and pulled handcarts across the Great Plains. They started late in the season and got snowed in up in Wyoming. They ran out of food and of over 500 souls that started out, only 300 of them lived through it. They said that they were sometimes so weak from lack of food that the handcarts pushed them some of the time. Brigham Young heard of their desperate plight and sent teams and covered wagons to rescue them. She then came to Beaver where she was the first school teacher and later married my grandfather. He died of an ear infection after they had only been married a few years, and she was a widow until she died at 85 years of age. My mother’s family all settled in Cache Valley in Providence, which is just south of the Idaho border. There, they were farmers, cattlemen, and had a store and mercantile business. They were very hard work-ing, prosperous people. One of my uncles, Ray Theurer, was elected President of the Utah Cattlemen’s Association, and was alsoa Cache County commissioner for many years. Another uncle was Superintendent of Cache County schools. Mother graduated from Utah State University at Logan, and came to Minersville, 15 miles west of beaver, to teach school. She met my dad, and they were soon married. My grandfather James H. Yardley was in Partners with his two broth-ers, and they were always in the cattle business. One brother, Uncle Al, would take a herd of steers and cows and drive them to winter range down on the Arizona Strip. He would take a pack horse and potatoes and salt bacon and live in a tent out there with them all winter. In the spring of 1908, he was coming home from Arizona, and when he got to the northern end of Long Valley, he took the wrong canyon and ended up in the head of Asay Creek. He said this was the most beautiful spot he had ever seen in his life. It is a beautiful mountain meadow valley with some big springs and one of the most beautiful streams in the world. He saw the man who owned it, who said, he wanted to sell it. So he came home and got my granddad and they went back and bought it for $5,000. This has forever changed our lives. They then acquired one of the first forest permits on the Dixie National Forest, running 500 head there, which joined the ranch. It is 70 miles from Asay Creek

to Beaver, and they always drove the cattle back and forth on horse-back, taking about three and-a-half days, until the late 1940’s, when we started trucking them. In 1920, granddad went back to Kansas and brought the first Hereford cattle to this area. Again in 1939 and ‘40, they went to Colorado and bought replacement heifers from the old master Hereford breeder of the United States, Fred Deberard of Krem-mling, Co. We continued to buy registered Herefords, both bulls and heifers, from many other top breeders of the country. We had as good of Herefords as there were in the West. About 35 years ago, we started cross breeding some of them with Angus. Then when they brought the first Simmentals to Canada, I went up to see them and while there saw Cunia, the first Maine Anjou bull brought to the North American Continent, and fell in love with him. We have been breeding Simmen-tal and Maines ever since that time, and the rest is history. I was always active in 4H and FFA, and started showing cattle then, and have enjoyed it ever since. I always believed in doing my very best at everything I ever did. In fact, my uncle roy calls me a perfection-ist. So I have always tried to raise the very best cattle possible. I have always liked to have the best corrals, fences, gates and improvements,so that everything is convenient and handy. I have always loved good, fancy colored horses, and I got my first paint mare when I was 14 years old, and I have had that same family of horses ever since. They are just like part of our family. We do everything we can on horseback, and spend many long hours in the saddle. Until I was 18 years old, my dad was in partnership with his broth-ers, Ike and Roy. We would start haying the 20th of June; cutting, rak-ing and hauling all at the same time, using eight to ten teams of horses until the middle of September. When my dad and his brothers divided up, I worked with dad until he died. I was so busy breeding good cattle that I didn’t get married and start raising kids until I was older in life. I met Denise, who was raised in Coalville Utah, and we got married on April 18, 1981. I never thought that I could love anything as much as my wife and my children. I was the eldest and only boy in my own family. I have five lovely sisters that all graduated from college and were all school teachers. All but one of them lives along the Wasatch Front of Utah, and she lives in Omaha Nebraska. I would like to tell you about my dad, who was the greatest man I ever knew, and was my best friend. He was always over to Asay Creek or other places, and never went to church much until he was 27 years old, when he was called on a mission to England. Most of our young men volunteer and are called for two years to go on missions and preach the Gospel. They pay their own way. After he came home, he was still a great cattleman and horseman, but he was also a stalwart pillar in our Church. Our congregations are called wards and are presided over by a regular member that is called a bishop. My dad was a bishop’s counselor for eight years, then a bishop for nine years, and a Stake President for 15 and- a-half years, and then a stake patriarch. A stake is a geographical area made up of several wards. He was also president of the Beaver River Water users about all of his mature life, and was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Utah Water & Power Board, and later on the Utah Oil & Gas Commission. He lived to be 89 years old. I would like to briefly tell you some of the things we strongly believe in. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men. If there is anything lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things. We believe in the ten Com-mandments, in the Golden rule-that we should treat others as we want to be treated-and love God and his son Jesus Christ, and our neighbors as ourselves. We believe our bodies are temples of God, and that we shouldn’t use things that harm our bodies. So we don’t use alcohol, tobacco, tea or coffee, or hard drugs. We strongly believe the FAMILY is the basic unit of any society. We know we will live after death and that we can be married for time and all eternity by proper authority in sacred buildings of God, called temples, so that we will have our fami-lies in heaven. We believe in high moral standards and cleanliness. We strongly believe that the Constitution of the United States is the greatest document ever written by men on government. We believe that our founding fathers were inspired by God when they wrote it. In fact, they could never agree on anything until they started praying about it, and then they were able to write it. We believe that individual freedom is the greatest gift that God has ever given to man. To PRESERVE OUR FREEDOM IS A SACRED OBLIGATION.

I was named after my Uncle Gilbert Yardley who died in the First World War in France trying to preserve our freedom. WE STRONGLY BELIEVE IN THE RIGHT TO OWN PRIVATE PROPERTY, MAKE A PROFIT, AND TO MAKE OUR OWN DECISIONS. These things have given us the incentive to establish the greatest ways of life and the highest standard of living of any people that ever lived on this earth. We are sick, troubled, and mad when we see how liberals, environ-mentalists, bureaucrats, and animal right activists are trying to destroy this wonderful way of life and to take away all of our freedoms, and make us slaves of the state. WE MUST DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING.If any of you would like to know more about our beliefs and our reli-gion, feel free to call or write me, Gib Yardley, at any time you would so desire. I will be more than glad to help you in any way I can, or visit our Church website at www.lds.org. In 1984, we bought two winter range allotments 40 miles west of Beaver. We winter most of our older cows out there without feeding hay. They have to calve on their own and do it all. They have to have natural fleshing ability to take it, and we have gotten rid of the cows that haven’t done well out there. We have Indian rice grass and some native desert browse plants that are wonderful feed. Since then we have been scattered out for 100 miles between winter and summer ranges. So we spend half our time coming and the other half going. I started artificial breeding in 1968, and have done more of this than anyone else in our state. one year, we bred over 600 head, I have always tried to buy the best bulls I could find in the nation, besides raising some very fancy herd sires. I first wrote this history in 1994. A mighty lot has transpired since then. My wonderful children are all grown and all married but 2. We have been blessed with 21 beautiful grandchildren. Our oldest grandson Chase got married this summer. Nikki graduated from high school, & CJ is a senior. Michelle & Mark Smith live 15 miles from Beaver in Minersville. They have 2 daughters and 3 boys. Jessica is a Junior in high school & Clayton, Sam, & Dallin love to come and help us. Mark works at Milford Elementary & Michelle is our ranch secretary and does all the records for this catalog. Jake & Julie Finlin-

son live in Panaca, Nevada where Jake teaches school & Julie is a busy Mom to 7 active children, Mathew, Nicole, Josh, Ray, Ben, Lydia & Rachelle. Jeannie is married to John Griswold of Stillwater, OK. They have a little girl, Maggie, who has hung the moon for them! Jeannie puts together and finalizes our catalogs and loves to come home peri-odically and see all of us and work with the cattle. She couldn’t have found a better guy than John…he is such a good Dad, husband, & so good to our family. Steven works on the ranch. He is a great cattleman with a good eye for cattle and a hard worker. He writes many of the reasons for the catalogue. He and his wife Leslie have 3 boys, James, Kade, & Shawn who love to “help” their dad on the ranch. Lori Ann & Toby Hoffman live in Tremonton Utah, 300 miles north of Beaver. They have 2 girls, Whitley & Oakley and just welcomed a new baby boy, Bridger. Toby is a Pfizer Animal Health Rep, and travels through Utah and Nevada. Their house is the halfway mark between here and Rexburg, ID so we see them pretty frequent. Tawnya & Rodney are living in Rexburg, ID attending BYU Idaho. They work here dur-ing the summers & are planning on returning to the ranch. We sure enjoy having them here and their good help. Emily works hard on the ranch. She graduated from BYU-I and is an expert on calving heifers and clipping and fitting sale cattle. Emily takes all the pictures for our catalog and does as good a job as anyone in the Country. Angela, our youngest, is a sophomore at BYU-I majoring in nursing. Our kids have all been blessed with brilliant minds, and work very hard at their studies, and are all 4.0 students. They all learned to work hard on the ranch and they have applied it in their school work. 2012 started out very dry with only one good storm all winter long. We didn’t know what we were going to do. But all the congrega-tions of our Church had a special fast and prayers and the good Lord heard our prayers and we received some very good rains throughout the summer and fall. We have had our prayers answered a lot of other times when we have had a bad drought. We had the warmest fall I can remember up until just before Christmas. After Christmas we got 8 inches of snow and it was the coldest January we have had in Utah for 64 years. It has thankfully warmed up since then. WE APPRICIATE ALL OF YOUR INTEREST VERY MUCH.

Three seperate breeds, three individual herds of cattle, one common goal. Our focus in all three breeds is to produce cattle with rib shape, dimension, solid tops, easy fleshing, structurally sound and fuctional. We will continue to focus on solid cow familes combined with powerful herd sires. Semen Available on all sires.

The calves sired by High Regard are stout, cool made, and consistent. He hails from generations of good uddered, broody made females. His service sells along with progeny. Sundance has grown into a moderate made powerhouse with substance and style to be a breed changer. He’s as easy flesing as any bull we have ever used. Extremly sound on his feet and legs with a big top, and soft through his middle. His daughters are proving to be extra maternal with plenty of look and pattern to make great cattle.

Billy the Kid did not disappoint. This was his first breeding season and he sired a group of calves second to none. They are big bodied, stout made, and there just isn’t any throw aways in them. They exhibit a soft made, easy doing look that is popular in everyone’s cow base. Billy the Kid was a member of Grindstone Creek Farms Pen of Three in Denver 2011. He has quickley earned a place in our Herd sire pen. You’re going to fall in love with his daughters at this years Focus on the Female.

We consider this bull one of the very best, if not the best bull we have ever raised. I am as critical a bull buyer as there is in the country and there isn’t one single thing I don’t like about this bull. He has perfect phenotype every place you look at him. I don’t like high tailed cattle. I want them square over that tail head and he is. Jeannie loves his perfect built, moderate sized mother as good as any cow we own. L21 was seven years old when we sold her, she brought $7,700 selling to Greg Kroupa of White Lake, SD. She was as pretty a cow as we’ve ever owned. T170 was her last calf that she had and is as pretty as her dam.

Natural fleshing ability is always in style and in the Maine Anjou cow base it’s something that needs to be a focus area. There is no point to have to feed power into cattle. They should have it naturally, “gutts” shouldn’t come from a bunk. Fortune is functional, he’s sound, he’s easy fleshing, and he’s cool made, plus he’s more consistent than any Maine Anjou bull we have used in a long time. As a senior herd sire he’s earned his place with his calf crop. He’s been viewed and analyzed by the most discriminative cattlemen in the industry and reported as being the most complete Maine Anjou breeding bull they had seen in the pasture. This picture is after breeding cows for 60 days.

Fleshing Ability has been a major focus at Yardley Cattle Company in our Maine Anjou herd. Integrity’s mother was 13 this past year and we finally shipped her. She’s been a cow that milks well and has done a great job with her calves. Oakie daughters were a signature of quality in our operation. Integrity boasts an actual 40 inch yearling scrotal. He’s done great on a set of cows this past year.

Royal Jet is the type of bull that defines where we are taking our program, Soft made cattle that carry performance, thickness, fleshing ability, and style. OCC Jet Stream is now deceased, he stands as one of Ohlde’s greatest herd sires. Look at the performance this bull carries coupled with a perfect phenotype. This is as good as Angus bull as you will find anyplace. We used him to clean up all of our Angus heifers this past year. He’s the type of bull that will add belly, rib, and doability, without taking pounds away from your bottom line.

I had the opportunity to go to the Grass to Grid Sale, before I married John. I fell in love with Hard As Steel before I was real sure I was in love with John! I circled his lot number, put a star next to his name, and wrote love this bull in my footnotes. With a 70# BW, 15.67 REA, and a 40.5 yearling scrotal he was one you could like off of paper but he got better after a visual analysis. He is a female maker that is huge bodied with fleshing ability and style. His first calf crop did not disappoint. Owned with Curt Schoner, and Griswold Cattle Company. His mother has been in ET at Griswolds, she is one of the best cows that they purchased from Tim Ohlde. Hard as Steel cost us $12,000. He sired many high dollar cattle for us this past year.

ANGUS REG # 15759398 Sire: OCC Legend 616LDam: Y Annie by Krugerand 490 (Krugerrand grand-daughter) Apache Brave is going down as one of the greatest sires of Yardley Cattle

Co. His progeny are top of the pen with 11 head of bulls averaging $4,568. A top hiefer calf sold for $10,500 this fall to Tim Johnston, Carpenter Iowa. He is an easy calving sire that produces cattle that have look and style. Grass fat cattle are what we need to breed. He always maintained his flesh while breeding cows and he wasn’t a bull that needed to primped and pampered. Apache was a moderator that kept performance and bred depth and rib into his progeny. Owned with Matt Sherwood.

ANGUS REG # 1624811 Sire: OCC Doctor Dam: Miss Yardley N181 by Xplorer by Krugerand 490 Great cattle come from great cow families and Yardley Skipper hails from

one of the best. His maternal sister sold in our Focus on the Female 2009 for $16,200 to Schnoor Sisters of Chowcilla, CA. Wayne and Barb Ohlrichs were the contending bidder and went on to purchase Miss Yardley N181 for $20,000, she is a hit and never miss cow. You’ll see from the feature lots in this sale that Skipper is following the tradition of the cow family behind him. He is functional and stout with the bone and body that you seldom see in PB Angus. He has been an extremely consistent producer of quality.

thickness, big bodied, strong uddered, eye appealing look to the table. Sired by Kodiak and out of Soo Line Annie, Soo Line states North Country is the result mating of the two greatest individuals they have ever owned. Soo Line Annie K was the Champion Female at the World Angus Forum in 2009. She sold for $100,000 and Kodiak sold for $150,000. One of the most exciting aspects of North Country comes from the consistency of his dam to produce high dollar, eye appealing progeny. The power of a cow family is immeasurable. North Country carries plenty of look and style along with an extra dose of performance, bone, and scrotal development. Semen $25 a straw. Owned with Griswold Cattle Company, Stillwater OK.

I have known and been a friend of Tim Ohlde of Palmer KS, it seems like forever. The world has beaten a path to his door because he has bred, developed, and selected a line and family of Angus cattle that have MORE FLESHING ABILITY, BETTER UDDERS, MODERATE FRAMES, and MORE DEPTH AND THICKNESS, than any other Angus in the Nation. OCC Rising Sun is a sound structured, pretty fronted, deep ribbed, powerhouse. We had previously used Jet Stream on our Simmental cows and loved the results. In a crossbreeding or purebred Angus situation we feel that Rising Sun will be a breed changer. Owned with Dunn & Son, Tetonia Idaho and Tim Ohlde.
