The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Group of Companies is one of the largest

independent, family-owned companies in the Gulf region. Established in

Bahrain in 1890 by Haji Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo, it has grown from its early

trading and shipping business to become one of the most diversified and

highly regarded business houses in the Gulf region and beyond. The Yusuf

Bin Ahmed Kanoo operates extensively in the GCC countries since the

early 1960s. It is greatly respected for the ability to combine traditional

values with a global vision and has always been linked to the progress and

development of the entire region.

Almost anywhere in the Gulf region, people will instantly recognise the

Kanoo name and corporate logo. After more than a 100 years of living up to

the demanding expectations of their consumers, the Kanoo name has

become synonymous with the principles of trust, reliability and quality. The

well-known Kanoo symbol of the palm tree appears in all communications,

evoking a sense of trust, stability and friendliness with compelling ties to a

strong heritage.

The Master Identity is made up of a

number of fixed elements; these are:

the Master Identity Icon, the

Wordmark and the Primary Colours.

There are three Lock-Up versions

available for the Master Identity.

The stacked version is the official version of the Master Identity for all applications

The horizontal versions may only be used where space is limited or where otherwise stipulated within these brand guidelines

Area is equal to the ‘X’ height of the

palm symbol portion of the Master

Identity Icon. To retain legibility and

brand integrity the Clear Space Area

must never be changed. To give the

logo its full impact, always observe

the clear area shown here when

used on printed and digitally

distributed items. Make sure you

know exactly what the logo should

look like, so you can ensure your

suppliers are reproducing it

The minimum size of the official

stacked version or horizontal

versions of the Master Identity is

measured by the size of the

Emblem. The Emblem MUST always maintain a minimum height

of 10mm at all times and the

Typography both in Arabic & English

(Wordmark) should follow it

proportionally. The minimum size of

the Emblem of the Master Identity

(with and without the Wordmark) is

10mm high.

The use of the Master Identity Blue,

Pantone® 281, is an essential part

of the Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo

identity. Always reproduce the logo

Some corporate brandings are mostly being used with additional graphical

elements – a so-called fifth element, in a more random way, throughout the

corporate design.

The palm tree has a long history which can be associated to a wide

audience from different religions and ethnic backgrounds. Ancient

Egyptians relate it to immorality while it plays a significant part in the Jewish

festival of Sukkot. For Christians, it implies victory whereas for Muslims, it

signifies peace as well as an association to paradise. In modern day, the

palm tree symbolizes honor, truth, value, vitality, warmth, fertility,

expansion, protection, aspiration, attainment, unification, resurrection and

singleness of purpose.

The brand name Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo uses up the majority of the

emblem. The use of Arabic calligraphy is another way YBA Kanoo can

relate to the brands strong connection to its heritage, tradition and values.

The development of the Arabic calligraphy (khat) is strongly tied to the

Quran which in part contributed to the growth of this unique art form.

The use of the banner in the YBA Kanoo emblem not only holds the English

name, it represents the link of two worlds, Arabia and the West. The

curvature of the banner brings the whole identity together to take the shape

of a circle which epitomizes the complete full circle, that is the brand.

Our visual identity emphasize consistent, professional image that reflects

who we are and what we do in the best possible way. That also includes

using our strong logo elements being used in a less obvious way to make

our corporate communication truly unique. This delicate touch can be seen

with what we call the fifth element, which adds a certain flair to the design.

Based on the unique components in the Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo logo, the

fifth element is a useful feature that can make our communication a little

more recognizable.
