Year 1 & 2 Home Learning Plan Week 11 This learning is intended for Stage One which encompasses both Year 1 and Year 2. With this in mind, your child may require more or less guidance to complete the learning.

English 9:00am – 9:15am Practise your sight/spelling words by typing them or writing them (writing them more than once is great!) 9:15am – 10:00am Choose a non-fictional (factual) book to read aloud with a parent/carer/sibling. See https://www.natgeokids.com/au/ for digital texts. Before reading, think about what you already know about the topic and write down some ideas. Read the book aloud and write or type answers to these questions:

• What was this book about?

• What are three facts you have learnt from reading it?

English 9:00am – 9:15am Spell your sight/spelling words whilst you skip/jump. Make sight/spelling word cards and play ‘go fish’. 9:15am – 10:00am Choose a fictional (imaginative) book to read aloud with a parent/carer/sibling. See https://www.storylineonline.net/library/ for digital texts. Read it aloud together and discuss the following questions:

• Does it have a good beginning and ending?

• Are the characters interesting? What makes them interesting?

• Which illustration in the story was your favourite? Why?

10:00 – 10:10am Fruit Break

English 9:00am – 9:15am Practise your sight/spelling words by making them with letters cut out from magazines or papers. Use water and a paint brush to ‘paint’ your sight/spelling words on the driveway. 9:15am – 10:00am Choose a non-fictional (factual) book to read aloud with a parent/carer/sibling. See https://www.natgeokids.com/au/ for digital texts. Read it aloud together and discuss the following questions:

• How does the title describe the content of the book?

• Was the title a good one for this book? Why or why not?

10:00 – 10:10am Fruit Break 10:10 – 10:50am Writing – Write a persuasive text (argument) on the following topic: “Dogs are better than cats.” Publish by writing or typing your text and read it over the phone to a parent, grandparent, pet or teddy or record yourself and have your parent upload to your class online platform (Seesaw/ Class Dojo) See attachments for example.

10:10 – 10:50am Writing - Write a letter to your teacher and tell them about all the work you have been doing at home. You can also tell them what you like about school. See attachments for example. Challenge: Could you ask them a question? Don’t forget to use a question mark.

10:10 – 10:50am Writing – Write a recipe for your favourite sandwich. Then use your recipe to make it for lunch. Take a photo of your sandwich to share with your teacher. Write/type a list of healthy sandwich fillers. See attachments for example.
