Year 1Term 2 Week 2
Beginning 4th May
Learning from home – Weekly timetable
Announcements
Additional weekly activitiesAnnouncementsThis week we will begin using Seesaw Blogs. Seesaw Blogs is an
online platform for students to showcase the amazing work
they are doing to a wider audience. It also allows students to
connect and interact with their classmates through discussions
with their teacher and peers, creating an ongoing and genuine
experience.
Teachers will publish exemplary work that students have been
uploading throughout the week, and provide an opportunity for
students to provide feedback and/or comments. This gives
students an authentic audience for their posts, encouraging
quality work and creativity. In addition, teachers may ask a
question to prompt discussion and collaboration. All posts must
be approved by the teacher and in this secure and monitored
space students will learn how to be responsible members of an
online community.

Look at a variety of different sculptures and how they are formed, for example the discus thrower.
Create a sculpture of yourself in one of your action poses using items around your home (twigs, sticks, toothpicks, alfoil, cardboard, string, material and glue).
Sculptures
1. Using paddle pop sticks, create a variety of puppets. If possible, add clothes and hair using material or other items.
2. Create a story and put on a puppet show using the characters you have created.
Puppet show
Read your favourite fairy tale.
Recreate each significant scene from the story using facial expressions and body language.
Remember, you can’t speak or move- you are frozen!
See if your family members can
guess which scene you are
acting out.
Drama Freezes
Body Percussion

Clap them high, clap them low.
Clap them left, clap them right.
Clap them, clap them out of sight.
Other verses: Roll them…. Shake them….
Challenge: Make as many sounds as you can
with different parts of your body. Try to create
loud or quiet sounds and long or short sounds.

I’ve Got the MovesTime to get up and moving! Choose a favourite song and let
your child dance along. Add some laughter to the activity and have your child follow along with your moves. Perhaps you
could follow their moves too.
“Be your child’s mirror! Stand face to face and mirror each
others actions without talking. Suggest different things to
mime such as your child’s favourite sport or an animal such
as the family pet!
Mime Yourself
WigglesAsk your child to jog on the spot and whilst they
are still jogging, ask them to wiggle their fingers.
Gradually add in the following body parts to
wiggle: wrists, arms, shoulders, hips, knees and
head.
Air GuitarPut on some music and compete with
your child to see who can play the best air guitar!
As If!Read each sentence out to your child and ask them to act it out for 30 seconds:
• Jog on the spot as if a big scary bear is chasing you • Walk forwards as if you are walking through a pool filled with ice-cream • Jump on the spot as if you are popcorn popping • Reach up as if you are grabbing balloons out of the air • March in place as if you are in a marching band • Shake your body as if you are a wet dog.
Turn on the radio or some music and DANCE until the song ends.

PE Choice Board Weeks 1 - 5 Choose a different fitness activity every day
Throwing and catching
Throw and catch – 1 player
Throw and catch on the spot. This is good for improving hand-eye coordination. Begin by catching with 2 hands and then move to one hand. You can make this more difficult by adjusting the height of the throw or switching to your non-dominant hand.
Throw and catch – 2 players
This activity can be done with a brother/sister or parent. Practice throwing and catching a ball to each other using your dominant and non-dominant hand. You can increase difficulty by adding a ‘trick’ between each throw such as a clap, two claps, a spin etc.
Wall ball – 1 or 2 players
For this activity you will need a wall or fence. Start by throwing the ball against the wall and catching it as it rebounds. See how many times you can throw and catch the ball without dropping it!

Whole Number Mass
Whole Number/Time
Whole Number
Using a bunch of paddlepop sticks estimate and count how many there are to the nearest 10. On a piece of paper put the headings estimate and count. Fill in each column.
Have someone write 10 two-digit numbers for you. Write the number that comes before and after each of these numbers. Challenge: What is the number 10 before and 10 after? Can you choose three-digit numbers and write the number before and after these?
Time
Construct a ‘seasons’ book, poster or season wheel using drawings, online images or from
magazines. Compile lists of words or sentences to go with each season. Order the months of the year and then match them to
the seasons.
Addition and Subtraction/Area
Addition and Subtraction
Use a deck of cards. Turn over 2 cards at a time and write the addition and subtraction sum for each. Eg 9 + 7 = 16, 9 - 7 =2
Draw a number line from 1-27. Place a counter on 14. One person is adding, the other is subtracting. Take turns to roll a dice and add or subtract the number shown. The player who gets to either end of the number line first is the winner.
Area
Choose an object to cover an area, such as a table, with eg envelopes, lids, books.
Estimate how many of your object it would take to cover the area and then measure it to see if you are correct. Choose another object
to measure with. Does it take the same amount of this object to cover it?
Multiplication and Division/2D Shapes
Multiplication and Division
Use 10 counters and split them into equal groups. How many different equal groups can you make?
Try this with 12, 16 and 20 counters as well.
Draw and write a sentence saying how many groups with how many counters ie 2 groups
of 5 counters = 10
2D ShapesChoose 10 objects around your house.
Guess which items will be heavier or lighter. Place one object in each hand (hefting) and
record which is heavier and lighter.
Whole Number/Mass
Whole Number
Have someone choose 5 two-digit numbers for you. Write the numbers in words and numerals, and draw the tens and ones blocks that represent your numbers.
Create a blank hundreds chart. Time yourself completing the hundreds chart. Can you beat your time?
Mass
Choose 10 objects around your house. Guess which items will be heavier or lighter. Place one object in each hand (hefting) and
record which is heavier and lighter.
Multiplication and Division/Area
Multiplication and Division
Draw a pattern using objects or symbols and describe it to someone. Eg. There are two squares, one circle etc
Practise skip counting. Choose a target number eg 100. Select a number to count by - two, fives or tens. Take turns to skip count by this number saying either the next 1,2 or 3 numbers in the skip counting sequence.

Lesson Topic Week 2- Investigating moving toys
Learning Intention
I can investigate how toys move in different ways
Success Criteria
I will know I am successful if I can:- Make toys move by giving them energy- Think about and answer questions about how my toy moves- Investigate movement using a ball
Week 2 Task
WHAT TO DO - Task 1- Choose a toy that can move, eg. Toy car, ball, spinning top, doll with moving parts
etc… - While playing with the toy, investigate and ask these questions:
- How does it move? (i.e. it rolls)- What parts move? (i.e. wheels) - What action makes it move? (i.e. push)
Different toys will move in different ways, have different parts that move and will require different actions to make them move. Have fun investigating how your toys move.
WHAT TO DO - Task 2
How many different ways can you make a ball move? - Investigate different actions you need to make a ball move in different ways.
i.e. Roll (push away), bounce (push down), throw (push up), spin (turn it around).
WHAT’S HAPPENING to my Toy
Toys need an action to make them move. You may need to push it or spin the toy to make it move. When you push or spin a toy you are giving energy to the toy to make it move.
Some moving toys use batteries and electricity to make them move. These types of toys still need an action – you usually have to turn them on with a switch to create an electrical circuit before they can move.
Using Push and Pull to move your body
DID YOU KNOW
People can move too – How can you move?
We can move our arms, legs and head. We can also move our whole body.
• Can you walk, crawl, run, jump, skip, spin and turn around? Which part of your body moves when you do these different actions?
• When people walk, run or jump we push off the ground with our legs and feet. Try jumping and feel how you push off the ground.

Weekly Journal Writing Week Two!
Many people from different countries have come to live in Australia and brought along their music. This term we are going to be learning about some music from other
countries.
Classroom code: suitcase
Lesson TwoLearning Intention: To become familiar with the song, Bir Mumdur/Yek Mumik.
Success Criteria: I can sing the chorus of Bir Mumdur.
1. The first song we are going to learn with Music in my Suitcase is called One
Candle. It is a traditional song sung at weddings particularly in Turkish and
Kurdish. It asks - How many candles will we light at the wedding? First we will
learn the song in English, then Turkish and finally Kurdish.
Log in to the Musica Viva Website: musicavivainschools.com.au Use the log
in: suitcase. Click on: Sing the chorus of Bir Mumdur/ Yek Mumik. Scroll
down to the video.
2. Listen to the song in English. Can you hit your legs in time with the music while Mara sings?
3. Listen to the song again in English. Copy Mara’s actions.
4. This time listen to the song in English doing the actions, then let the video continue to play and sing each phrase
after Mara.
5. Listen to the song sung in Turkish and Kurdish. Do any of the words sound familiar? Can you echo the song in all
three languages?
6. Do you, or anyone in your family know another language. You need to know the numbers from 1-4, 14 and the word
candle. If you do, try singing the chorus in your language.
1. Watch part 1 of the video lesson by Mrs. Kwan.
