Welcome to our Virtual Sports Week 2020!
As some of you are back at school and others remain at home, we
have created a format that allows for participation both from home
and at school. Activities will take place all week and you will have until
Friday to complete your challenges.
PE – Sports Week!
It’s time for your physical challenges. Each of them should last for 60 seconds,
so make sure you have your timer or stopwatch ready. You can try them once
and see how well you’ve done or even better – try them every day for a week to
see how much you’ve improved and what your Personal Best is. When completed
write your score on the scoresheet or make your own one if you want.

Maths – Counting to 100
Today, we are going to learn how to count from 1 to 100 using a number grid.
Let's use the 100 square to help us count. If it's useful, you can trace your finger along each
square as you count.
Question 1
Use the 100 square to count from:
27 to 35
62 to 76
85 to 92
Question 2
You can use the 100 square to count back, as well as count forward.
Use the 100 square to count back from:
44 to 38
62 to 55
82 to 79
Question 3
Now look at how the numbers are arranged. Which numbers are between: 34 and 36? 55 and 75?
This is a row
This is column
Question 4
Use the 100 square to find the mistake in this sequence:
47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 61, 53, 54, 55
Start from 47 and count along the rows.
Question 5
Now let's use the 100 square to find numbers 10 more or 10 less.
Which number is 10 more than 26?
Find 26 on the 100 square and count 10 more by going down 1 in the column.
Now find the numbers 40, 51 and 76 and count on 10 more.
What do you notice each time? What pattern can you see? Did you notice that 10 more is
always beneath the number you started with? Did you notice the last digit (ones) stayed the
same?
Challenge
Science – Sports Week
Exercise and Sport is Very Important
Why do you think doing sports and exercising is so important?
Share your ideas with your grown-up.
Did you know that you exercise all the time without even
knowing it?
Think about a school day – what do you
do at school to keep you active?
When you go up and down the stairs or run around in
playtime is that a kind of exercise? What else counts as
exercise? Do you play sports? Can you dance? How many
push-ups can you do?
When you exercise or do sports, you’re helping
to build a strong body and healthy mind.
Let’s have a quick recap. Draw a picture of your body and label as many parts
as you can or tell your grown-up all the body parts you can remember.
By doing lots of exercises and taking part in sporting
activities, our bodies can stay fit and healthy.
Being Sporty Makes Your Heart Happy
Your heart works very hard, pumping blood around your body
every day of your life. You can help your heart to get stronger.
What do you think you could do to make your heart stronger?
Exercise can get your heart pumping faster, make your cheeks
red, make you sweaty and hot, and quicken your breathing.
When you give your heart this kind of workout regularly, your heart
will work even better – delivering oxygen to all parts of your body.
What Can Exercise Do for You? Exercise can make your muscles stronger and build your strength.
Exercise and doing different sports can make you more flexible
which means you can move your arms and legs without tightness or
pain.
Exercise can put you in a better mood because your brain releases
chemicals when you exercise and this makes you happier.
Try running on the
spot for 30seconds,
then put your hand
on your heart.
What do you
notice?
Discussion Points What do you do to exercise?
How often do you exercise?
What sports do you enjoy?
How to you think you could get healthier and fit?
TASK: We have learned that doing sports activities and exercising regularly is
very important. Now let’s think about our bodies during exercise.
Name of the
exercise What do you
have to do?
How many times can
you do it in a minute?
What happens to your
body when you do the
exercise?
You can use the table above or just share your ideas with your grown-up.
Computing Lesson
When people design new computer games they think about
what they want the game to do, break it down into small
things to do and then put them all together to make the
game.
Think about organising a birthday party - you would break
the task into smaller tasks - list of people to invite, food,
games etc.
Try the Break it Down activity. Perhaps you could draw a toy
– I think you would be surprised how many parts a simple
soft toy has.
