United Kingdom – Scientists have created a hair dye from Ribena
blackcurrant skins. It is said that the pigment from the blackcurrant
provides red, purple and blue colours on hair.
India – In Southern India Bonnet Macaques, a type of monkey, have
learned how to ask for food using hand gestures and making soft
cooing sounds.
Greenland – There is a large plastic problem in the Artic Ocean
surrounding Greenland and affecting parts of Scandinavia. There are
around 300 billion pieces of plastic that is floating around in the water.
Plastic does not rot like plant or food waste and can stay around for a
long time. The United States Environment Protection Agency has said
that “every bit of plastic ever made still exists”.

OVERLOADING LOCKERS
Please could students not to overload their lockers as we are having frequent instances where lockers are being 'damaged' by overloading. The hinges can become damaged when the door is forced shut and they regularly need to be replaced which is at a cost to the school.
The Campus Team repair lockers on a daily basis and they have noticed recently that there are lots of damaged lockers around the school but students are not reporting this. If a student has a locker that needs a repair, please can they report this to Student Services so that the Campus Team can carry out the necessary repairs on a daily basis.

HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE – LOCAL APPRENTICESHIPS
As an apprentice you will have the unique opportunity to gain clinical experience, by rotating through different sectors; Acute (Hospital), Community, Primary Care and Local Authority (care homes, voluntary sector) to develop transferable skills and learn about both health and social care approaches to care giving.
Four apprentices will be based in each of the geographies of Telford, Shrewsbury and Oswestry with placements being based in a locality which is convenient to you. You will be required to attend a two week in induction based in Shrewsbury then travel to your placement areas which are hosted by various health and care placement partners for the remainder of your apprenticeship.
Throughout your apprenticeship you will be employed by The National Skills Academy for Health, hosted by employers within the three localities and your qualification will be delivered by Telford College.
A comprehensive induction programme will be delivered, prior to commencement of your placements.
You will be required to have mandatory vaccinations to enable you to attend placement. These may include: H/O BCG vaccination. Varicella (H/O chicken pox), MMR and Hep B vaccinations.
At the end of your apprenticeship your newly acquired skills will be sought after as you will have had exposure to the wide variety of services users in different settings across the Shropshire health and care economy. This could be the start your career pathway. We offer full support to help find a suitable role based on your individual career goals at the end of this apprenticeship opportunity.
