A LEVEL FILM STUDIES

Page 2: Year 10 Film Studies Taster Session

THE COURSEIn a nutshell, Film Studies allows you to explore the films released around the world and across the last 120 years.

When studying films you will look at the technical construction, e.g., camerawork, lighting, mise-en-scene (everything within the scene) and the people involved in the film’s creation, i.e., the director, actors, etc.

Additionally, you will also look at films within a wider context, this means looking at the country in which the film was produced and also the social and political climate of the country at the time of the film’s creation.

Film is a very powerful medium and we look at how films can impact on an audience, from telling us how to feel through cinematography and music to how they can educate us and tell us something about the world we live in.
