What does 2020 hold for us?
We want our students reading.
We have student practices that we want to improve.
We’re gearing up for a Centenary.
Some things are the same…
When teachers see learning through the
eyes of the students.
When students see themselves as their
own teachers.
Visible Learning…
Our Priorities – 2018-2020
Our Values
Learning: We love knowledge, learning and
curiosity.
Excellence: We strive for world class standards and

and altruism.
Public Education: We celebrate diversity as well as the
things that bind us together.
As a parent…

Retrieval practice
involves
recreating
something you’ve
learned in the
past from your
memory, and
thinking about it
right now.
You have one minute to write down as many
countries which start with the letter ‘I’ as you can
remember.
There are eight…
The ‘I’ Example
Did you get:
India
Iran
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Iraq
Israel
Indonesia
The ‘I’ Example
__ / 8
Answer the following:
1. Which country did you remember first? Why?
2. Did you have a strategy to remember them?
3. Once the answers were revealed – did you
‘remember’ all the countries?

Building and Refining Effective Study Habits
Building and Refining EffectiveStudy Habits
There is a difference between knowing and
retrieving.
It’s precisely this ‘struggle’ or challenge that improves our
memory and learning – by trying to recall information, we exercise or
strengthen our memory, and identify gaps in our learning.
Retrieval practice makes learning effortful and
challenging.
We may feel like progress is slow, but that’s when our best learning takes
place.
Conversation starters:
• Where is your planner for homework and study?
• Have you got spaced practice included?
• How are you using retrieval practice to help you
learn?
• Which retrieval strategies are you using?
