Evaluation of our Thriller film.As a group we have concluded that the key features needed to create a thriller film is what we have incorporated into our own media production. Overall our film has many key strengths involving a script and storyboard which clearly illustrates the thriller genre. In terms of the editing process we have made the right transitions where it is needed in order to add to the tension and suspense. Weaknesses include we could have maybe added more techniques in terms of cinematography. For example the use of extreme close ups would have been used to give the audience an insight on the character's personality,

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Particular costumes used in thriller films highlight the type of character the individual is without the character even having to speak. The use of costume is made evident when the murderer is wearing all black which symbolises death. Mise-en-scene is everything in the shot/scene they can help to define the characters social status or personality and set the mood in a film. The antagonist can have low key lighting (shadows) and De-saturated colour effect on the face this has the impression of a hidden identity if we can only see half their face.

Our media film also shows the traditional working class male that feels like he has the dominant role over his wife. However as a contrast we use the wife showing how she does not follow what her husband wants and cheats on him which leads him to fulfil his dominant role as the male in the relationship and hires someone to murder his wife in anger. Through this we present the average social group of adult men and women but present a hidden dominance between the couple we present. We also present the murderer and the victim as part of the immoral side of adult men and women social groups. For example the murderer commits a crime and although the victim loses her life, she also is immoral through adultery. We present this through the close up of the text message showing the wife’s immorality through adultery. We also have a shot of the murderer’s phone call with the husband showing her morality by committing a crime. Therefore we represent the immorality of adult social groups and relationships within adult social groups.

For our film we used the software Corel Video Studio Pro. This was a challenge at first because none of us were familiar with this type of software but as the weeks progressed we became more familiar with it and started to make good use of the features that came with the software in order to make our thriller film a success. Through the various use of cameras we used, we have understood the different forms of cameras that were available to us. The editing process also enabled us to get used to a new software that none of us were familiar with.

What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Page 6: Year 12 Media

During our process of learning how to use the software one member of our group vaguely knew how to edit the video through terms of cutting the video and placing video and sound into the software. We all eventually learnt how to do this by looking over different parts of the software and trying out different things such as effects, cutting, sound and transferring video footage into the software to edit successfully. Throughout the process of making our thriller film we all took turns in editing, sound and videoing our footage. This way we all managed to get experience in editing a thriller film and learning how to use the software available.
