Art and Design

Can you design your own mode of transport, for example your very

own sports car or an amazing futuristic bike?

Make your own Hot-Air Balloon

Can you design and make your own ‘junk model’ Hot Air Balloon? If you

have internet access, Google ‘Hot air balloon junk models’, there are

some good ideas there.

The First Powered Aircraft Create a factfile or poster to give information about the first powered aircraft to be invented. Think of these questions to help you:

- Who invented the aircraft? - When and where was the aircraft made? - What materials were used to form the aircraft? - How long did it take to make? - Did it fly? If so, for how long? - How did it work?

Science PSHE

Evaporation

Remembering the Science investigations we have done with salt water, where we separated the salt from the water by heating the water (or evaporating the water,) can you draw and label a diagram to show the process of evaporation? Please include the labels: water vapour, heat source and water. Look at the BBC Website (or google BBC bitesize evaporation) https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zkgg87h/articles/zydxmnb Thinking about how steam (water vapour) is formed, how do you think a steam train would be powered? What causes the train to move along the tracks? Research steam trains and how they are powered. Was your prediction correct? Use this link to help you -

Can you create a poster or a leaflet that helps people during COVID-19? (You can use your computers, tablets or just simply draw and colour one). Choose one (or more if you like) of the following: Can you create a ‘Don't be bored’ poster - this could have helpful advice, diagrams and tips of things to do at home - that may help your classmates to avoid being bored! Can you create a ‘How to stay safe’ COVID -19 poster, you could include advice on how to wash your hands, stay at home tips, how to keep yourself ‘mentally healthy’. You could use sub-headings like: eat good food, sleep well, talk to others about your feelings, stay active and exercise… you may have some more ideas of your own, that you could add! Can you create a ‘Thank You’ poster for Key Workers - such as, NHS staff, Teachers, Carers, Utility Workers, Food Industry workers, Government and Council workers. Maybe, you could display your poster somewhere, for others to see? You could upload it onto the 5T or 5P Facebook page, if you fancy?

Reading

Make sure you keep reading for at least 15 minutes each day. Each week we will put a different set of activities that you can do around your reading book. These will be based on the Vipers skills of: vocabulary, inference (reading between the lines), predict, explain, retrieve (find the answers in the text) and summarise You could always post a book review in the Home Learning folder on Showbie or on the Thames 5T facebook page too! This might encourage others to try out the book for themselves!

Here is a short reading comprehension for you to try. The skills we are looking for here are ‘compare and contrast’ Compare means looking at what is similar, contrast means looking at what is different…

We will put the answers to these in the Showbie Home Learning Answers folder at the end of the week.

Writing

A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between one thing and another. It may tell you where a thing is in relation to something else. E.g. The silver, shining giant stood on the car. It may tell you when something is in relation to another event. E.g. The crowd watched until the giant departed.

Story starter! Can you finish the story?

Snap…Snap…Click…The sound of a hundred cameras filled the air. Craning their necks to the skies to see the enormous specimen, the crowd all let out gasps and moans in unison as the figure took its first steps. Standing over 50 metres tall, the metal beast cast a foreboding shadow over the gathering, transfixed spectators. No-one knew why it was here. No-one knew where it had come from. No-one knew whose side it was on. However, its intentions were about to be made clear… Sentence challenge! Can you find any prepositions in your writing? Can you write 3 sentences that contain prepositions? Is it possible to begin a sentence with a preposition? Can you end a sentence with a preposition? What about trying to start and end a sentence with a preposition? Perfect picture! Imagine your job is to design a robot. Draw or describe what your robot would look like, and what it could do.

Maths

Here are two lots of fluent in 5 (like the ones we do in class.) These are all topics we have covered together in class so it’s not new learning. If you are struggling with any then just drop us a message on Showbie or the class Facebook page. You could create some squared paper in your exercise books by drawing vertical lines with a ruler. To find ¼ (a quarter) of a number, you divide by 4.

We will put the answers in the Home Learning Answers folder at the end of the week.

Number 2 is divide, the rest are multiplication.

4 Times table challenge! Your challenge this week is to learn the 4 times table so that you can answer questions on them quickly. Think about what you could do to help you:

● For example, you could write them out a few times to help you memorise them. ● Then look at them, read aloud and repeat. ● You could then fill in the answers in order to help you memorise them. ● Then write them down out of order and see if you can still fill in the answers. ● Ask an adult to keep asking you 6 times tables questions throughout the week. It

doesn’t matter if you don’t get there straight away. Keep trying and you will improve!

Keep going on TT Rockstars as this will help your speed and accuracy. Go on to www.timetables.co.uk They have loads of activities and interactive games to help you learn your 4s in a fun way!
