Year 5 SEN Workbook Summer 2 Week 6
I finished this book earlier this week after lots of people had recommended it to me. I would give it 10/10 and it is definitely being added to my favourites list.
If you like books about nature and adventures, then this is for you. It is set on future Earth where a disease keeps everyone locked up (sound familiar?) Whilst the humans are away, nature and the Earth heals.
Exciting story with lots of really loveable characters. Let me know if you read it and tell me what you thought.
If you want any Summer reading book recommendations, get in touch on Twitter. @MrsKAslett
The boys were a bit chilly this week so spent lots of time cuddled under
blankets.
As you will know now, I am leaving Benjamin Adlard this summer to go and live with Mr. Aslett near Manchester.
It is a sad ending to my nearly 6 years as part of the Benjies’ team. I have taught lots of your brothers and sisters and
you’ve all been amazing. Getting to know you all and spending time with you and your family has been a real privilege.
Thank you to you all for making this year special (even if it has been very different and not the easiest!)
You will all be brilliant year 6’s!
Enjoy your hard-earned Summer and look after yourselves.
No spellings this week but I have attached the year 5/6 word list. It would be worth spending some time practicing these over the summer.
You can find the list at the end of the workbook.

This week we will look at performing some poetry. We will look at lots of different styles. Each day read the poem aloud a few times until you become more fluent. This is one of my favourites that I have liked since being little. You can find this poem being read aloud here: https://clpe.org.uk/poetryline/poems/please-mrs-butler If you can, listen to the poem first and try and copy the expression used.
This week we will look at some of the basics. Today I will give you a mix of questions. You can decide whether a mental or written method is best.
1. 2 x 0= 2. 1.2 x 10= 3. 3413 + 13134= 4. 36 ÷ 6 = 5. 199 + 300= 6. 72 x 67= 7. 450 x 10= 8. 1.34 + 12.92= 9. 123 ÷ 4 = 10. 128.42 ÷ 10=

Day 5
Tough maths this week!
Time for some more times table practice! Some ideas for this:
• Ask someone at home to ask you x table questions • Use Purple Mash or other times table games online. • Fill in the multiplication grid. Time yourself and then try beat your time on a new grid. • Pick a times table, roll and dice and then x.
Our last bit of learning this half term was going to be focusing on the human lifecycle and changes that humans go through as they get older. Here are some activities you could do linked to this:
Find some pictures from when you were a baby. Look at how you have changed. I would love to see some of your pictures!
You could even ask an adult for some
pictures from when they were little. How have they changed? Do you look like
them?
Here are some pictures of me growing up. Put them in order on a timeline and match them to some of
these important life milestones.
You could so some research into how babies develop and change. When do they start walking or
talking?
Possible milestones: Born
Go to prom Start Ks2
Start college Start preschool or nursery
Start primary school Start to walk and talk
Get married
Stay Active!
• Make a dance routine to your favourite song
• Use CosmicKids on Youtube to do some daily Yoga.
• Create an obstacle course in the garden or house.
• Choose the exercises that spell out your name or the name of a friend.
Try some hand breathing.
Stretch your fingers on one hand out. Trace your pointer finger up and down the fingers on this hand as you breathe slowly in and out.

This is a good technique if you are feeling anxious.
Give yourself a butterfly hug
1. Cross both arms over your chest and place each hand on your shoulder.
2. Gently begin tapping each hand one at a time on your arms. Tap for 10 counts
3. Pause and take a deep breath.
4. Keep going until you feel more relaxed.
5-4-3-2-1
Write down or think about:
5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
Ocean breathing.
Transport yourself to the beach. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Slowly breathe in through your nose, and then out through your pursed lips (as if you are blowing through a straw). The slow breathing sounds like ocean waves, gently crashing on shore.
Peace Out
Try some guided relaxation with the Cosmic Kids Peace Out
videos.
This is one of Mrs. Aslett’s favourites.

Here are some good ideas:

Give it a squeeze!
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Hold each squeeze for about 5 seconds.
• Curl your toes tight like you are picking up a pencil with your feet.
• Tense your legs by pretending like you are standing on your tippy-toes, trying to look over a fence.
• Suck in your stomach as if you are trying to slide through a narrow opening.
• Make fists with your hands and pretend like you are trying to squeeze all of the juice out of an orange.
• Pretend like a bug landed on your nose, and you’re trying to get it off without using your hands. Try to scrunch your face and move your jaw to make it fly away!
Concentrate on how different it feels to tense and then relax your muscles.
Make a pizza
Sorry Mrs. Noble not a real one!
Try this fun yoga activity or try some of the yoga on Cosmic
Kids’ Youtube channel.

Talk, talk talk!
If you are worried, sad, angry or anxious then speaking to an
adult is important and will help. They can work through some of
these activities with you.
These activities can help adults too!
