Guidance for completing MFL work:
The work inside the booklets on ClassCharts/in school reception contain enough work to
cover the 14 hours of lesson time you would have had in this first half-term, it is
therefore expected that you spend a similar amount of time completing the tasks. This
can be done in small chunks and/or with regular breaks.
The content of the booklets is based on activities/tasks from your lessons. This means
that you should be familiar with the different types of tasks set by your teacher.
Within each booklet are instructions (in English) for every task that you have to
complete.
If you struggle to understand a task, please see below a list of useful websites to help
you with vocabulary & grammar:
- https://www.wordreference.com (online dictionary)
- https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/levels/z98jmp3 (grammar & vocabulary)
- https://quizlet.com/topic/languages/ (vocabulary learning)
The subject knowledge organiser with all the vocabulary you will need for this terms topic
of Holidays is at the back of this booklet
Also, the answers to the tasks are at the back of this booklet. This means that once you
have completed certain tasks, you can mark these yourself to see where you have made
good progress and which areas you may need to revise.
Remember - you do not need to print out the work - you could just read it on screen and
work in an exercise book or on lined paper. There are also printed copies of the booklets
available to pick up from school if anyone cannot access them on a screen.
Please complete this work by the deadline set on ClassCharts by your teacher. Revision
and assessment work for this half-term will be included in this booklet. If you have any

Present Tense Regular Verbs
There are 3 types of verb in
French: verbs that end in –er, -ir or
–re. To conjugate verbs, there are
2 simple steps:
1. Chop the –er/ -re / -ir off the
infinitive:
2. Add on the correct ending
depending on who the subject
(the person doing the verb) is,
e.g. Je parle = I talk.
(Remember, the endings are
different for –er, -re and –ir
verbs!)
-er:
Joue
r
-re:
vendre
-ir:
finir
Passé composé (past) ‘One-off actions that have been completed in the past’
Step 1: avoir/être Step 2: Decide if the verb is Dr/Mrs Van
Der Tramp & use être
j’ai je suis
tu as tu es
il/elle a il/elle est
nous avons nous
sommes
vous avez vous êtes
ils/elles
ont
ils/elles
sont
Only these Dr/Mrs Van der Tramp verbs take être e.g. Nous sommes restées

Devenir
Revenir
Monter
Rester
Sortir
Venir
Aller
Naitre
Descendre
Entrer

Il y a – there is / Il n’y a pas –
there isn’t
You use ‘il y a’ or ‘il n y a pas’ to
say what there is or is not in your
town
Il y a un cinema - there is a cinema
Il y a des magasins – there are
some shops
Il n’y a pas une stade – there isn’t
a stadium
Il n’y a pas des parcs – there
aren’t any parks
On peut / On ne peut pas
You can use ‘on peut’ + infintive to
say what one can do in your town
and ‘on ne peut pas’+ infintive to
say what there isn’t in your town.
Dans ma ville, on peut visiter un
musée,
mais on ne peut pas aller à la plage
In my town, one can visit
the museum,
but one cannot go to the
beach
Adjectives
The endings on adjectives change in French depending on what you
are describing. The adjective must agree in gender (masculine or
feminine) and number (singular or plural) with the noun you are
describing.
For example, if you were describing the museum (le – the /un - a
musée), we can see that it is a masculine word (‘le/un’) and there is
just 1, so it’s singular. Feminine words describing the bookshop ‘la –
the, une- a librairie’, we can see it is a feminine word (la/une) and
there is just 1 and it is singular.
The adjective would then need to be masculine and singular: le musée
est amusant (the museum is fun). And if it is feminine and singular,
the adjective needs an ‘e’: la librairie est amusante
The adjectives below in bold don’t change whether masculine or
feminine, you just add an ‘s’ if it is plural
Also, remember to add an ‘s’ when using an adjective to describe a
plural noun and change the ‘is = est’ to ‘sont = are’ e.g. les librairies
sont amusantes
Masculine
singular
Feminine
singular
Masculine

Feminine plural
amusant amusante amusants amusantes
intéressant intéressante intéressants intéressantes
embêtant embêtante embêtants embêtantes
agréable agréable agréables agréables
fantastique fantastique fantastiques fantastiques
désagréable désagréable désagréables désagréables
The near future tense in
French (going to…)
1. Present tense of ‘aller’
– to go
Je
vais
I am going
Tu
vas
You (singular) are
going
Il/elle
va
He/she is going
Nous
allons
We are going
Vous
allez
You (plural) are going
Ils
/elles

They are going
2. + the infinitive
• Je vais écouter = I am going
to listen
• Nous allons jouer = we are going to play
