Since 1972, GHA has organized and conducted health education and management training programs for more than 9,000 health professionals and community leaders from 97 countries. Furthermore, since 1986, GHA has sustained community-based health and livelihood programs in rural Haiti. Today, GHA continues to develop innovative programs to address the complex health needs of vulnerable, under-served communities around the world.

Our approach is based on four core principles:

• Comprehensive development solutions are tailored to the community,

• Communities best address problems when connected to relevant knowledge, skills, and resources,

• Collaborative programs engage communities to create their own solutions, and

• Empowered women bring about improved community health.

Change in Net Assets ($710,136.00) The decrease in net assets was driven by the sale of GHA’s building which generated a book loss of $823,650. The sale of the building ena-bled GHA to become debt-free and invest net proceeds to offset future operational costs.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT Year ending June 30, 2015

PSYCHO-SOCIAL SUPPORT TO LEFT-BEHIND CHILDREN

• Assisted in the design and content development of a handbook on adolescent health and life skills; 20,000 copies were printed and distributed to left-behind children in Jiangsu province.

• Provided technical assistance to the national, provincial, and local health offices to support the expansion throughout Jaingsu province of the pilot project for left-behind children.

• Distributed hand hygiene kits and provided related health education to 1,200 children in Lupu township in Jaingsu Province.

NEONATAL & MATERNAL HEALTH

• In conjunction with the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing, conducted a qualitative study in Petit-Goâve to explore acceptability of altering traditional umbilical cord care practices to prevent neonatal sepsis and death in Haiti.

• Attended 696 safe deliveries.

• Made 1,973 post-natal visits.

COMMUNITY HEALTH

• Administered 7,818 vaccines and provided medical treatment during 8,010 clinical visits.

• Made 6,217 home visits, serving 6,238 families and 28,227 individuals.

• Conducted continuous training for networks of community health workers and traditional birth attendants.

• Conducted 310 health education community events attended by 5,393 people.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

• Vaccinated and treated thousands of goats for a variety of illnesses and parasites through mobile clinics.

• Initiated a women’s livestock cooperative in Trouin by providing the women with pregnant goats to start herds and monthly training on goat care.

• Assisted the community of La Colline in establishing a veterinary pharmacy.

Information gathered from this study informs next steps in strengthening maternal newborn healthcare in Haiti. You can read more about program updates and see photos of our mission in action.

Since 1972, GHA has organized and conducted health education and management training programs for more than 9,000 health professionals and community leaders from 97 countries. Furthermore, since 1986, GHA has sustained community-based health and livelihood programs in rural Haiti. Today, GHA continues to develop innovative programs to address the complex health needs of vulnerable, under-served communities around the world.

Our approach is based on four core principles:

• Communities best address problems when connected to relevant knowledge, skills, and resources,

• Collaborative programs engage communities to create their own solutions, and

Change in Net Assets ($710,136.00) The decrease in net assets was driven by the sale of GHA’s building which generated a book loss of $823,650. The sale of the building ena-bled GHA to become debt-free and invest net proceeds to offset future operational costs.

PSYCHO-SOCIAL SUPPORT TO LEFT-BEHIND CHILDREN

• Assisted in the design and content development of a handbook on adolescent health and life skills; 20,000 copies were printed and distributed to left-behind children in Jiangsu province.

• Provided technical assistance to the national, provincial, and local health offices to support the expansion throughout Jaingsu province of the pilot project for left-behind children.

• Distributed hand hygiene kits and provided related health education to 1,200 children in Lupu township in Jaingsu Province.

NEONATAL & MATERNAL HEALTH

• In conjunction with the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing, conducted a qualitative study in Petit-Goâve to explore acceptability of altering traditional umbilical cord care practices to prevent neonatal sepsis and death in Haiti.

• Attended 696 safe deliveries.

• Made 1,973 post-natal visits.

COMMUNITY HEALTH

• Administered 7,818 vaccines and provided medical treatment during 8,010 clinical visits.

• Made 6,217 home visits, serving 6,238 families and 28,227 individuals.

• Conducted continuous training for networks of community health workers and traditional birth attendants.

• Conducted 310 health education community events attended by 5,393 people.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

• Vaccinated and treated thousands of goats for a variety of illnesses and parasites through mobile clinics.

• Initiated a women’s livestock cooperative in Trouin by providing the women with pregnant goats to start herds and monthly training on goat care.

• Assisted the community of La Colline in establishing a veterinary pharmacy.
