AQUA-GRO®A Blend 0·' Non-Ionic Organic

Soil Wetting AgentsDuring 1959, one of the most severeyears in turf history, a number of super-intendents in areas with adverseweather conditions, produced a turfthat was denser, more disease resist-ant, better rooted, and, in addition, did not wilt. This turf was grown con-sistently under low soil-moisture-ten-sions, using AQUA-GRO. During 1959these courses had more play than everbefore, yet their greens proved to bebetter than ever. These results were not obtained overnight. Each of these superintendentsfollowed this general program (seeSeptember, 1959, Golfdom):

1. Every year apply a total of24 to 32 ounces of AQUA-GROper 1,000 sq. ft. Each applica-tion should be at the rate of 8oz. per 1,000 sq. ft.

2. Under severe conditions apply8 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. atmonthly intervals during theseason.

3. To promote deeper rootingmake both an early springand fall application.

4. For maximum performancekeep this program on sched-ule.

These rates of application are basedon using a blend of non-ionic wettingagents, that is 100 % active ingredients- AQUA-GRO. The average cost forall greens, collars, and tees on an 18hole course was less than $450 peryear. These results certainly warrantyour own individual investigation.Choose a portion of your course andfind out for yourself!

Irrigating your go'f course 1

HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU KNOWABOUT WATER SYSTEMS?

Q Are you building in trouble spots?

A Naturally, you want good, soft turf on your fairways-to provide goodlies, and not to build in unwanted hazards. This assurance is yours withan irrigation system of cast iron pipe-because a cast iron pipe systemwill be free of repair and replacement year after year, keeping yourcourse free of trouble spots.

Q What should you look for in an irrigation system?

A The same things you look for when you're about to purchase a car:economy, long life, freedom from worry. You don't always buy thecheapest car-because the cheapest car doesn't always give you thethings you want. The same applies to piping systems. Again cast ironpipe supplies the best answer: a steady flow of water-always ... plusfreedom from worry over tearing up your course to repair or replacethe piping system.

Q How can you find out about pipe from someone whoreally knows?

A First you have to ask yourself, "Who are the biggest buyers of pipe?"The answer: those who buy pipe for city water distribution systems. And in our 50 largest cities, over 90% of all the pipe in use is cast ironpipe. Couple this with the fact that 110 American utilities have beenusing cast iron pipe for over 100 years, and you can see why cast ironpipe is justly called America's greatest water carrier.
