At La Crosse Dance Centre, dance is an art form, not a commercial endeavor. We are committed to bringing the highest quality dance

education to each and every student through classes, rehearsals, and performances. Our program ensures that every student enjoys a

structured yet enriching and encouraging environment most conducive to learning. At LDC, our philosophy is to train our students as dance artists.

We do not attend dance competitions because we feel dance as an art cannot possibly be judged with a score card. We do not believe in putting

dancers, dance, or young dance artists into any type of box, but rather we strive to provide a safe, yet challenging environment in which we can help our students break out of boxes. We make every choice regarding

our program with the intention of helping our young dance artists realize they have the strength and gifts within themselves to do whatever they choose to do, and their time with us will be a nurturing time for them to

explore who they are and who they want to become. Dance is our language, or medium for this.

Each class and rehearsal at LDC exemplifies the above philosophy. Instructors teach safe, progressive warm ups which concentrate on keeping dancers’ bodies healthy and strong by achieving proper

technique. Students learn about important kinesthetic and anatomic principles as they develop an appreciation for dance and explore their own

creative processes. We are committed to each student’s entire dance education, providing the student with a strong and thorough base, so as

to be able to pursue dance at a collegiate or professional level as well as gain a lifetime passion for the art form. Individual attention is one of our fundamental beliefs for executing this commitment; class size is limited to no more than sixteen students. Above all, students of all ages have fun while gaining self-confidence, learning valuable skills in cooperation and

working with others, and acquiring critical thinking skills obtained from an arts education.

La Crosse Dance Centre: Comprehensive dance education promoting

human connection and community by fostering creativity and collaboration.

Dance is a performing art. At LDC we offer our students unique performing opportunities that stretch far beyond the traditional dance recital. These performing opportunities are quite fun and educational for students and

audiences alike.

LDC’s 30th Anniversary “Nutcracker Ballet”LDC produces the annual “Nutcracker Ballet” each December at Viterbo

Fine Arts Center. Students involved in the “Nutcracker Ballet” also have the unique opportunity to educate their peers as they perform a special school

matinee for 800-1100 area school children, with a question and answer session that follows the performance. Students age five and up audition in

late May/ early June to be a part of the “Nutcracker Ballet” cast. Our 30th Anniversary “Nutcracker Ballet” will be held December 13 at 7:30 pm,

December 14 at 4:00 pm, and December 15 at 2:00 pm at Viterbo University’s Main Theatre.

LDC is home to eight performing ensembles: KinderKinetic, Youth Kinetic I, Youth Kinetic II, Youth Kinetic III, Tap Ensemble I, Tap Ensemble II, Tap Ensemble III and La Crosse Dance

Company. Members of all eight performing ensembles are invited to perform as ambassadors of dance at various community functions as well as LDC

performances throughout the year. Auditions for the performing ensembles are held in early June.

LDC’s Spring Sharing and Spring PerformanceOur Dance Season here at LDC is ended with two wonderfully unique

performance experiences. Dancers in all our technique classes have the option to participate in a Sharing, tentatively scheduled for May 16, 2020 at the Cavalier Theatre. There is no extra cost to participate in the Sharing. Tickets for friends and family to view their dancer’s work at the Sharing will be sold at LDC for $12 a piece, beginning in late April/early May. Three separate Sharings will be presented, and dance artists in each Sharing will be separated by age group. The Sharing provides a unique opportunity for the dance artists to choose and make what they present to their family and

friends at the end of the dance season.

Dance artists in LDC’s Performing Ensembles will perform in LDC’s Spring Performance, featuring our original dance versions of “Paper Bag Princess” and “The Lorax,” as well as repertory pieces. This Spring Performance is

tentatively scheduled for May 29-May 31, 2020, in Viterbo’s LaCroix Black Box Theatre. Please inquire about Performing Ensemble fees.

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance is necessary for a student to obtain the most from class. However, we understand certain absences are unavoidable. Students who wish to make up a missed class should ask the instructor which LDC class would be the most appropriate to attend. There are no refunds for missed classes. If a student is more than fifteen minutes late for class, they may be asked to observe class rather than participate. Proper warm-up is extremely important to avoid injury. As a courtesy to the instructor and fellow students, please avoid tardiness. Students who wish to participate in the Spring Sharing must adhere to certain attendance policies that will be outlined at the beginning of the dance season.
