Emily, a seemingly healthy woman in her early 30s, was not expecting a leukemia diagnosis. Nor did she expect how totally destructive the disease would be to her health and her life. Her initial chemotherapy, stem cell transplant and recovery took over five months, and required that she move within 30 minutes of the hospital for part of that period to live near our clinic. And because she needed assistance 24-7, her husband acted as her full-time caregiver.

Your Support, Our Life-Saving TreatmentEmily’s story is typical of most of our patients. Blood cancers are some of the most devastating and the most costly to treat. And that’s where our Patient Assistance Fund comes in. With our compassionate, innovative treatments and your donation to this fund, we can continue to win the fight for Emily and so many patients like her.

Why GiveWhen you give to the Blood Cancer and BMT Program at the University Of Colorado Hospital and University of Colorado Cancer Center, you know your money is well spent. We deliver leading-edge treatments that help us earn survival rates that are higher than national averages along with a patient satisfaction score of 95%. Plus, ours is the only transplant program in the Rocky Mountain region that’s affiliated with a comprehensive NCI-designated Cancer Center.

Expenses mount quickly for our patients. They are unable to work for six months or even years, and require full-time care from a family member or spouse. Your donation to the BMT Patient Assistance Fund helps offset the cost of:

• Gas or taxi vouchers• Grocery gift cards• Housing for patients and their families/caregivers so

they can stay nearby• Insurance co-pays and premiums• Medication and treatment

Hope begins with you.

This staff is wonderful. They're welcoming, good teachers, competent, concerned and it starts with the receptionists. It's like a big family and, of course, because we're such long-term patients, we get to know each other pretty well. I feel safe and cared for and that means a lot when I'm going through a time in my life when I could very well lose my life if this doesn't work!

Thank you to all who generously donate to the Patient Assistance Fund. It truly means so much to all of us. I survived three Bone Marrow Transplants in nine months time. Since the transplants, I have had to retire on disability. Because I have worked for at least 40 years and always supported myself, this has been a major shock and a huge change in my life. I was suddenly unable to afford to take care of myself financially and physically and I was forced to ask my 88-year-old father for financial help. This was something I never expected to do. The aid I have received from the Patient Assistance Fund certainly helped. It made things a little easier and is so appreciated.
