Rajendra Kumar Friday reviewed the law and order, secu- rity scenario of South Kashmir at a meet- ing of police officers held at District Police Lines Pulwama. Chaired by the DGP, the meeting was attended by, besides others, IGP Kashmir Zone, A. G. Mir, and DIG South Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar. Addressing the meeting, Rajendra stressed upon the officers of South Kash- mir Range to ensure regular coordina- tion at every level and maintain law and order in their jurisdictions. He sought reports from the officers regarding situa- tion in different areas of policing includ- ing law and order, security, crime and anti-militancy operations. The meeting was apprised about the overall situation in the range. Achievements on different fronts including the anti-militancy front were also discussed in the meeting. Rajendra, expressing his satisfaction over the security scenario and successes in anti-militancy operations, said that coor- dination among different security agencies and wholehearted support of the people has enabled JKP to meet the challenges firmly. He said, “Our efforts should continue to curb the anti-social elements with the coop- eration of people and for this purpose our attitude should be people friendly. Security of the people is our prime concern and it should be ensured that while dealing the situations, common man is not put to any inconvenience.” He also appreciated the range police for conduct of peaceful Amar Nath Yatra. Discussing the crime scenario in the range, the DGP asked the officers to adopt the latest methods of investiga- tion like crime mapping, which could lead to identification of criminals in a better way. He stressed for information- sharing among different agencies and districts to curb the inter-district activ- ities of criminals and anti-social ele- ments, saying that a strategy should be drawn and implemented in a time bound manner to get better results. Earlier IGP (Kashmir Zone), A. G. Mir, gave a detailed briefing to the DGP about the overall situation in the South Kashmir districts. He said that joint efforts with other agencies have been made to curb the activities of criminals and anti-social elements in the range. The DGP later addressed a police durbar. GoC Northern Command stresses better synergy with police SHABIR IBN YUSUF Srinagar, Aug 22: Army has chalked out a new strategy to counter militancy in south Kashmir which is emerging as the new hotbed of armed groups. In this connection, General Officer Commanding-in-chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen DS Hooda Thursday visited Tral and chaired a meeting of senior Army officers. He also interacted with soldiers. A senior Army official said here that there are less number of militants in usual hotbeds like Kulgam, while Pulwama and Tral belt has emerged as the new hotspot. “Earlier Pulwama was some- what peaceful. Now most attacks are taking place in Pulwama and its adjoining areas,” he said, adding that Shopian district, which once was a militancy hotbed, has very less number of militants. Lt Gen Hooda landed at the Headquarters of 42 Rashtriya Rifles located in Bajwani area of Tral Thursday. “Gen Hooda met troops, officers and asked them how to operate to get best results while dealing with mili- tancy,” the official said adding he shared his own experience with soldiers and officers. The official said that GoC Northern Command discussed the spurt in militant attacks with GoC Victor Force, Com- mander 1-Sector Rashtriya Rifles in presence of GoC 15 Corps, Lt Gen Subrata Saha. “Gen Hooda was told that anti- militancy operations have been speeded up in entire south Kashmir,” he said, adding that GoC Northern Command asked the officers on ground to synergize with police and other security agen- cies for best results in anti-mil- itancy operations. In a series of attacks launched by militants last week in Pulwama district, six people including five security force personnel and a civilian have been killed. According to a statement issued here, Bhat said, “Shar- ma’s statement that JK CM should be Hindu has exposed not only his immature inten- tions to declare himself as CM’s face in JK but it has also removed the veil from the face of Congress that is using Hindu card for Hindu audiences and Muslim card for Muslim people to fulfill its nefarious intentions to create a division between three regions.” “An FIR should be reg- istered against Sharma for fomenting communal trouble in the state. BJP is the real organization repre- senting 1.25 billion people of the country. Majority of Muslims are joining BJP in large numbers after entire people of Jammu as well as people of Ladakh have given clear mandate to BJP in recent parliament elections,” Bhat said in the statement. IMRAN MUZAFFAR Srinagar, Aug 22: Mobile service subscribers of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Lim- ited (BSNL) in Kashmir are up in arms against the ser- vice provider over the lewd and immoral messages they receive on a daily basis. A group of subscribers told Greater Kashmir that it was highly unfortunate on part of the company to allow Short Messages that are extremely objectionable. A message, which is fre- quently received by the sub- scribers, reads: “Mein Ghar par biklul akeli hoon aur bore ho rahi hoon; mujse dosti kar; karain fun-filled baatein. (I am alone at home and feeling bored. Let’s be friends and talk fun). Call xxxxx at Rs 3/min. Waiting for your call.” Another such message reads: “Khoobsurat Din Khoobsurat Raatein, karain humse kisi bi waqt dil khol kar masaledar baa- tein (Happy days and nights. Speak your heart out with us any time) Dial xxxxx @ Rs 5 per minute. Sune Girls Gossip (Listen to girls’ gossip). Dial xxxxxx. Dial from mobile only.” Yet another message reads: “Agar Aap Hai Akele Aur Tanha To Apna Akela- pan Door Kariye Voice Chat Par. Suno Naughty Ladkion Ki Khwahishein (If you feel lonely, talk to us on voice chat and listen to desires of naughty girls).” A BSNL subscriber said he receives such messages almost on a daily basis. “We have not subscribed to any such message service, so they can’t take the liberty of sending such immoral mes- sages,” he said. “The regula- tory authority should take a note of our grievance and direct the service provider to stop sending such mes- sages.” When contacted, General Manager BSNL, BP Agarwal said these are “value added services provided by not only BSNL but other opera- tors too.” “These are paid value ser- vices which a subscriber can use if he wishes so. I see noth- ing vulgar in this,” he said. NBT Chairman to Kashmiris: Read and write books IMRAN MUZAFFAR Srinagar, Aug 22: A top Gov- ernment of India official said on Friday that Kashmiris have every right to convey their real- ities in the form of books and that New Delhi would provide full support to document them. “Everyone has a right to expression and so have Kash- miris,” Dr M A Sikandar, Direc- tor National Book Trust, told Greater Kashmir on the sidelines of a press conference here. “In Japan and Germany, for example, people rebuilt their countries from ground zero through books and now they are examples in the world. Like- wise, in Kashmir, one cannot suppress such writing.” The NBT, an apex body established in 1957, is in coop- eration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Lan- guage organizing a book fair in Srinagar, the state’s summer capital, from August 23 to 31. DGP reviews security situation in South Kashmir

Army to adopt new strategy against militants in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 22: The Director Gen-eral of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar Friday reviewed the law and order, secu-rity scenario of South Kashmir at a meet-ing of police officers held at District Police Lines Pulwama. Chaired by the DGP, the meeting was attended by, besides others, IGP Kashmir Zone, A. G. Mir, and DIG South Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar.

Addressing the meeting, Rajendra stressed upon the officers of South Kash-mir Range to ensure regular coordina-tion at every level and maintain law and order in their jurisdictions. He sought reports from the officers regarding situa-tion in different areas of policing includ-ing law and order, security, crime and anti-militancy operations. The meeting was apprised about the overall situation in the range. Achievements on different fronts including the anti-militancy front were also discussed in the meeting.

NBT Chairman to Kashmiris: Read and write books

“Everyone has a right to expression and so have Kash-miris,” Dr M A Sikandar, Direc-tor National Book Trust, told Greater Kashmir on the sidelines of a press conference here.

“In Japan and Germany, for example, people rebuilt their countries from ground zero through books and now they are examples in the world. Like-wise, in Kashmir, one cannot suppress such writing.”
