For developing countries like India, Indonesia, China and Malaysia, the Malacca Strait is thus the gateway for Maritime Trade. Keeping in view the great potential available, the GOI has in-principle approved the Container Transshipment Terminal (CTT) project at Great Nicobar and consequently an Expression of Interest (EoI) for inviting PPP partners for the proposed Transshipment Hub at South Bay/Campbell Bay was floated in 2019 by the Port Management Board (PMB). In response three firms viz. M/s Navayuga Engineering Co. Ltd., Hyderabad, M/s Adani Ports and M/s Hindustan Ports Pvt. Ltd. have shown interest in the project. The PMB has also engaged M/s WAPCOS for conduct of a Revalidation Study of their earlier report of the project submitted in 2010. The revalidation report is likely to be received by 31st July, 2020. M/s WAPCOS will also be further engaged for the tendering process and as Project Management Consultants till completion of the project. The tendering process and the environmental clearances including Environmental Impact Assessment study are likely to be completed by end 2021 and the proposed construction could start by early 2022. The project is also part of the overall National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) and under constant monitoring of the GOI. The entire project would be on PPP basis and completed in three phases with an overall cost of around Rs.10,000 Crores and the first phase is scheduled to be completed by 2025 giving a capability to berth ships with 15000 TEU capacity. These timelines are however subject to timely firming up of PPP partners, speedy environmental clearances and Viability Gap Funding (VGF) by the GOI. The transhipment port at Great Nicobar would comprise deep water berths and facilities to transfer the cargo in bulk/ break bulk to other vessels which can be accommodated in the other/smaller draft ports. The economic benefits of the project would be enormous. The most obvious benefit is the income generated from the operations of a transhipment port. Reduction in transportation times would directly impact the competitiveness of exporters and the cost of imports. Considerable employment across all levels would also be created to meet the operational requirements for the port operations. New Delhi, June 21 (PIB)Stars in our Galaxy are formed from the molecular clouds present inthe Galaxy. It is believed that the majority of stars in our Galaxy areformed in the star clusters making them important clues to understandthe star formation mechanism. Open star clusters are a system of starsbound by gravity in which stars are born from the same molecularclouds. All the stars in a cluster follow the evolutionary sequence asper their initial masses at the time of formation of these stars. Openclusters are also important in probing formation and evolution of MilkyWay Galaxy as they are distributed throughout the Galactic disk. Astronomers at the Aryabhatta Research Institute of ObservationalSciences (ARIES), an autonomous science institute under theDepartment of Science and Technology (DST) Govt. of India, havefound that stars of varied ages can co-exist in open clusters. Thischallenges earlier understanding that stars in an open cluster have thesame age. The scientists measured the light from three poorly studied openclusters NGC 381, NGC 2360, and Berkeley 68 observed using the 1.3-mtelescope at Devasthal situated in the lap of the Himalaya for studying theevolution of stars in these clusters. They found two different stellarevolutionary sequences in the cluster NGC 2360, which has been observedin very few open clusters in the Milky Way Galaxy until now. The astronomerDr. Yogesh Joshi and his research student Jayanand Maurya observedthousands of stars in three open clusters NGC 381, NGC 2360, andBerkeley 68. The clusters are found to be relatively older, having agesbetween 446 Million years to 1778 million years.

Study showing stars of varied ages canco-exist in open clusters, provides clue tostellar evolution in the Milky Way Galaxy
