Fiber loss measurement is inaccurate. Because the Marker 1 cannot be placed correctly.The loss data varies by operators.

Fiber loss measurement is accurate. Because the operator error in placing marker 1 can be prevented, fiber loss and the connection loss can be calculated accurately and easily. Auto-search function can detect this event.

High Dynamic Range: OTDR & splitters (PON)

OTDR trace shows port1 and port2 as same trace. The location should be distinguished but loss measurements are still complicated.As shown here, splices on two different fibers show on the same trace, as do the end events.

Bending loss measurement with 1625nm

1625nm wavelength is more sensitive than 1310/1550nm wavelength

If there is excessive bending on the fiber the 1.31um/1.55um are not sensitive enough to find out it. However it can be measured by 1.625um wavelength the loss obtained easily.

Testing Requirements so far

Cleanliness of the fibers Live Fiber alarm

Not mentioned, but a plug check for good OTDR connection should also be considered

Use a Dummy Fiber (launch fiber) or not Can impact total loss and use dynamic range up.

High Quality Dead Zone (shorter is better) High Dynamic Range to measure through splitters Ability to find macro bends with longer wavelengths

But what about live networks? What happens when a single location fails or deteriorates?
