YORK COUNTY CHIEFS’ ASSOCIATION 45TH ANNUAL FIRE & EMS TRAINING SCHOOL WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 29 & 30, 2018.
This year, the school will be held in various locations: Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Lyman, and Saco. There are 13 courses listed in the
brochure. All courses state the times and location, the address and specific details within each course description. The Brochure / Regis-
tration Form can also be downloaded at: https://yorkcountychiefs.org.
* Please note that several of the courses have prerequisites and/or equipment requirements.
* PPE means full protection gear. *SCBA means complete air pack and spare cylinder that meet standards.
* Medical Clearance and FIT TEST are required for all students in courses utilizing PPE & SCBA.
* Students must be at least 18 years of age.
REGISTRATION: A separate registration form must be completed for each applicant. Registration deadline is September 21, 2018.

1 DAY COURSES
1.01 WATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN $225 EMS / Fire / Lifeguards
COURSE TIME: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Kennebunkport Village Fire Dept., 32 North Street, Kennebunkport
*LUNCH AND DRINKS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE DAY!
This 1-day course is open to Fire, Rescue, EMS, Police and Lifeguard personnel. Classroom is 4.5-hours;
then 4.5 hours practical water sessions in the ocean at Colony Beach till 6:00 p.m.
GEAR: Participants responsible for their own PPE: gloves, wetsuit or swiftwater dry suit, rigid-sole footgear
(i.e. wetsuit booties, tennis shoes or water shoes). Lifesaving Resources, LLC. will provide each participant
with Type V Rescue Life Jacket, Helmet, and Guidebook.
NOTE: Wetsuits can be rented from Aquaholics in Kennebunk, and Liquid Dreams in Wells.
PRE-REQUISITES: To participate in the Water Rescue Technician course participants must be in good physical
condition and must be comfortable in deep water while wearing a lifejacket.
AFTER YOU REGISTER, you will receive a confirmation packet from Lifesaving Resources, LLC. with further
instructions, and pre-requisite reading, etc. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive
a course completion Certificate valid for 5 years. Course Meets / Exceeds NFPA 1670 for Technical Rescue.

1.03 ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF THE PEDIATRIC AND NEONATE PATIENTS $ 75 EMS

This one-day program will focus on the care and treatment of pediatric and neonate patients; including a review

2.01 Basic Pump Operator Course $150 FIRE
Course Time: Saturday & Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location: West Kennebunk FD, 80 Thompson Road, Kennebunk
This two day program incorporates the latest version of MFSI’s Basic Pump Operator Course. The newly reformatted
2018 Edition of BPOC is designed to provide firefighters with a standardized means of providing water at fire scenes.
The classroom portion of the program consists of lectures covering: the evolution of fire apparatus; the principles of
water; fire pump components; fire ground hydraulic calculations; and proper pump engagement procedures.
The practical evolutions will include pump engagement; single and multiple line operations from a tank, pressurized
water sources, and drafting from static water sources.
Course will provide the 2018 BPOC Student Workbook.

2.02 Aerial Ladder Operations $150 FIRE
Course Time: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Location: West Kennebunk Fire Dept., 80 Thompson Road, West Kennebunk
A two day basic course designed for new aerial ladder officers, operators, or for veteran operators looking for a
refresher in the proper operation of a ladder truck. Classroom and practical sessions include apparatus and aerial
operations, ladder operations, safety, inspection, spotting, setting, proper and improper use of an aerial ladder.
Day 1: Classroom and hands-on apparatus familiarization. Day 2: To include roll-ups and setups to buildings;
and flowing water through the aerial ladder.
Requirement: PPE & Traffic Safety Vest. Apparatus driving experience is required.

2.03 “Real World Extrication!” $150 FIRE
Course Time: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Location: COPARTS, 136 Kennebunk Pond Road, Lyman (Go directly to COPARTS both days.)
It’s 0200 and you’re called for a Motor vehicle crash with entrapment. The updated dispatch reports there is heavy
entrapment, and then multiple occupants trapped. What’s going through your mind? What tools do you have in your
mental tool box to handle this situation? Are you ready? Is your department prepared? Do you have the training, the
expertise? We start to view the accident in our minds; will it be like the last? Will it be something we have not
encountered before? Will this be a clean or dirty rescue? There are so many variables: (How many trapped, vehicle
types, condition of patients, vehicle orientation, entrapment type, responding crews/units and hazards) that just scratch
the surface of a never-ending tactical checklist. Let us help put some tools in your mental tool box, come join us at
Real World Extrication. (Note: This course will be a hands-on extrication course.)

2.04 Commanding Initial Fire Attack $150 FIRE
Course Time: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Location: Kennebunk Town Hall, 3rd Floor, 1 Summer Street, Kennebunk
Program utilizes visual fire simulation techniques that allows Fire Officers and Senior Firefighters a chance to
apply techniques of Size Up and Initial Reports; identify fire conditions upon arrival; predict fire travel; conduct a
Risk/Benefit Analysis; choose operational modes; assign initial fire control companies, and do resource evaluation.
THE PROGRAM WILL FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING POINTS:
Pre-Incident Preparation: Command Coaching, Crew Resource Management, Fire Service Changes, Operational
Leadership, Strategy & Tactics, NIMS, ICS, Fire Ground Command.
COMMANDING THE INITIAL FIRE ATTACK: Initial Arrival Reports, Apparatus Placement, Size Up, RECEO vs
SLICERS, Risk / Benefit Analysis, Predicting Fire Travel, Operational Modes, Incident Priorities, Making Operational
Assignments, Evaluation of Resources, and Incident Termination.

2.05 Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) $150 FIRE / EMS
Course Times: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Location: Kennebunk Fire Dept., 1st Floor, 1 Summer Street, Kennebunk
For all Fire and EMS personnel! This 16-hour USDOT curriculum-based program meets the
BLS Certification guidelines. It also meets the MEMS criteria effective January 2007 for all rescue drivers, and is ap-
proved by Volunteer Fireman's Insurance Services (VFIS).
Day 1 - Classroom: Students learn the principles of safe emergency response; motor vehicle laws; emergency vehicle
dynamics and physical forces; personal readiness; operational awareness and scene safety.
Reviews firefighter/EMT injury-fatality data; liability protection; inspection; & maintenance.
Day 2 - Driving: Competency-based driving course will be at Maine Turnpike Garage, 150 Fletcher Street, Kennebunk.

2.06 Advanced Pump Operator Course $150 FIRE
Course Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location: West Kennebunk Fire Dept., 80 Thompson Road, Kennebunk (white building)
This two day program incorporates the new MFSI’s Advanced Pump Operator Course. The program is designed to
expand the knowledge and skills of the basic pump operator. The classroom portion of the program consists of
lectures covering BPOC review; theoretical and fire ground hydraulic calculations; sprinkler and standpipes; Class A
& B foam; and the principles behind moving volumes of water in excess of 500 GPM.
Practical evolutions will include hydrant testing; relay pumping; master stream and elevated master stream operations;
sprinkler and standpipe operations; and foam operations. Course will provide the 2018 APOC Student Workbook.

2.07 SWIFTWATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN $395 FIRE / EMS / LIFEGUARD
LOCATION: Kennebunkport Village Fire Dept., 32 North Street, Kennebunkport *LUNCH AND DRINKS PROVIDED BOTH DAYS!
DAY 1: SATURDAY 8:00 a.m. - 6:00p.m. A comprehensive and fast-paced 2 day program consisting of the Water Rescue Technician course on Day 1; and the
second day dedicated exclusively to dynamic water conditions, conducted entirely in a moving water environment.
4.5 hours classroom session, then 4.5 hours practical water sessions in the ocean at Colony Beach.
DAY 2: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Practical sessions at Saco River off Water Street, Saco.
GEAR REQUIREMENTS: Participants must provide their own wetsuit or swiftwater rescue dry suit, gloves, rigid footgear
(i.e. wetsuit booties, tennis shoes or water shoes). Lifesaving Resources will provide Type V Rescue Life Jacket and
Helmet, and Guidebook for each participant.
Note: Wetsuits may be rented from AQUAHOLICS in Kennebunk, and LIQUID DREAMS in Wells.
PRE-REQUISITES: To participate in this course, participants must be strong swimmers and must be able to pass the
pre-requisite swim test identified within the course. Description for this class found on Lifesaving Resources website.

3 DAY COURSE
3.01 Combined Company Operations on the Fire ground...Beyond Bread and Butter! $150 FIRE
Course Time: Friday Night: 6:30 p.m. - 9:00p.m. & Saturday/Sunday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Location: Washington Hose Fire Dept., 159 Port Road, Kennebunk
We all go to fire, some more often than others. This weekend will provide firefighters with hands-on evolutions
of engine and truck company techniques for the type of fires we go to most often, in single family occupancies,
and specifically designed for the reality of our short-staffed crews.
THE EVOLUTIONS WILL INCLUDE hose stretches, hose line handling operations, hose movement to upper and lower
floors, ground ladders, search techniques, ventilation/roof operations, and vent-enter-search techniques.
DURING THE SUNDAY SCENARIOS, attendees will work as operating companies under live fire conditions to practice
skills and techniques learned and discussed earlier in the weekend.
NOTE: Evolutions will be done at an acquired structure located at 274 Alewive Road (Route 35) Kennebunk.
This course includes an evening lecture on Friday, and two days of hands-on skills and scenario-based evolutions.
Prerequisite: ME BLS Basic FF /or Firefighter I /or FF I & II levels
Requirements: Full PPE & 2 SCBA Bottles
